I went to the website and got a car
I went to the website and got a car, got a conformation with the price and paid for it. I called to ask what was happening, I was told that price is not available anymore and I needed to pay more. I asked to cancel because they were not honoring the price, I was told that I would be charged $200 for cancellation. This company is a ripoff do not book through their website.
Bait and Switch No help with AC
I reserved a Aud A6 station wagon. When I arrived at the counter at Rome airport on Monday I was told an A6 was not available and they would give me a Mercedes. I assumed it would be an E class. When I went to pick it up I realizred it was a C Class compact station wagon. I'm 6' 200lbs and I was with my family. It was a small station wagon for a family of 4. i was told they did not have a bigger vechicle when I asked for another vechicle. We had been at the airport for 3 hrs already and decided to leave for Florence. Halfway to Florence the AC stopped working. We tried calling and we emailed looking for assitance. Received email response a week later. Never got anyone on the phone. We did not use the car again untill Thursday and it was fine in the morning but the AC stopped again on our way to Tuscany. Could not get a hold of Europcar 800 number. Our hotel found a local peson to take care of us. We spent an hour and half at the Service station Thurday. On Saturday when we were driving around Tuscany the AC stopped working again. When we called they said they would get back to us in 24hrs. They knew we were dropping off the car on Sunday. The 2 hour drive to Rome on Sunday was miserable because we had no AC and we were packed tightly into the compact station wagon. I have emailed them several times and they email back saying they provided service on Thursday.
Be Warned
Be Warned: The Europcar desk were very social and talkative: However, they talked us into accepting extra costs much higher than we were lead to believe. The amounts of these costs are not shown to you when signing the contract digitally. If you use Europcar BE VERY CAREFUL that their staff do not talk you into unecessary costs and check before you sign. I will NOT be using this firm again
I rented a car from Europa car at the Zurich airport
I rented a car from Europa car at the Zürich airport. When I asked about tolls, I was told that the were included in the rental. I then travelled an hour to Bregenz, Austria and back for a four day trip. After returning to the states, I received a bill for €200 from Austria for an invalid toll plate and a 42 CHF fee from Europcar for them to simply forward that email. I contacted Europcar they indicated that I was responsible for these fees as they were outside of Switzerland. Switzerland is a very small country and you can barely drive 50 miles in any direction from Zürich without hitting another country. A customer oriented company would have made this clear when asked if about tolls. When asked about tolls, they should not simply say that tolls are included, but rather that tolls in Switzerland are included but not neighboring countries. I could’ve bought a 10 day pass for driving in Austriat for less than €10 using the Asfinag app using a credit card at the Zurich airport. Instead I have to pay a €200 fine to Austria and Fr 42 fee to Europcar for them to forward the email telling me about the fine. Additionally, the Austrian toll authority only takes wire transfers and international wire transfers at my bank cost $50. Thus, their misinformation cost me @ $325 instead of $15. I suspect they choose not to provide this information you so they can collect the additional 42 CHF. I strongly suggest you boycott this company. I certainly will never use them again.
they are simply thieves at the check-in…
they are simply thieves at the check-in desk I was informed of a cost of 25 euros per day and on the invoice received it came to 90 euros in the context that the car was handed over exactly as it was picked up without any problems
Ordinary thieves
Avoid Europcar!
It would have saved me a lot of grief if I had checked the reviews here before renting a car in London from Eurocar. They appear to operate a flim flam arrangement, wherein what one has booked is disregarded by clever manipulation. I ended up being fleeced, and subsequent efforts to seek redress came to nothing. Particularly upsetting was Eurocar's refusal to refund charges for days not used when I returned my vehicle early.
Avoid this outfit at all cost. They should be shut down for unethical practices.
Horrible experience!
Horrible experience! Our tour director rented a van from Europcar for our Gers tour from June 15-23, 2026. We picked up the van at the Toulouse airport & they provided us a van with a broken air conditioner! She tried to resolve the issue as soon as she discovered the problem but was given a total run around by customer service throughout the entire trip!
Mind you, we are advance-aged ladies, 71-80 years old respectively, & we had to endure the European heatwave in Southwest France for 9 days sans air conditioning! At 132 degrees inside the van at one point, it was a grueling, unbearable heat to say the least! Utterly unpleasant & very uncomfortable!
Despite the daily phone calls to customer service & our tour director taking the van to car repair shops, all efforts to have the broken air conditioning fixed or a chance to replace the van were all in vain.
Simply put, Europcar is an unreliable company & has the worst customer support! DO NOT rent from this company, EVER!
Bad company
I hade a reservation , în booking and i changed in the Europcar office with a new one they told me i will have full refund for the first ( never receive anything) and for the second reservation they keep 400 euro guaranteed and i pay full casco insurance for scratch and they fund a small scratch, they keep 300 euro 😂😂😂 never ever rent a car from here !
I cannot recommend Europcar Manchester…
I cannot recommend Europcar Manchester Airport.
The staff were friendly, but my overall experience was extremely disappointing.
I waited more than an hour to collect my car. I had booked a Cupra Leon or similar but received a Dacia Duster that was covered in scratches and dents, and the radio did not work.
The biggest issue was that a £320.01 Premium Protection insurance was added to my rental. I had already booked EasyTerra's Worry-Free package and had explicitly asked only for roadside assistance. At no point was this additional insurance clearly explained to me. I believed the amount shown related to the security deposit.
As soon as I discovered the issue during the rental, I contacted Europcar. Despite this, my complaint was rejected because I had signed the agreement, without addressing the lack of clear explanation or informed consent.
The staff were polite throughout, but I was left feeling that I had paid for a product I never knowingly agreed to buy.
My advice is simple: avoid Europcar.
Never again would I hire with Europcar
Never again would I hire with Europcar!
We had a holiday of a lifetime planned and booked our car hire through Europcar.
We picked up our car in Edinburgh and after an hour wait we were told that we had to purchase additional extras (for vehicle recovery) or we were not allowed to take the car. He advised this was "in your T's and C's" but i questioned that. He tried to charge us an additional 75 pounds per day, when we flatly refused he dropped this down to approx. 40 pounds per day. He also said there was additional charges for one way drop off.
We continually questioned these additional charges to him saying we could not take the vehicle without them.
Further investigation has shown that everything we paid additional for was already included in our initial pricing. The forms he made us sign were also not signed by him, even though it showed on them that they are to be signed by both parties.
We also had an email that we could make the drop off by 4pm in London Kings Cross, only to find out on that day they closed at 3pm. We wanted to discuss our issues with someone but there was no one there.
Our call through to customer service was met with a rude lady who advised we could just drop our keys and leave the car.
We have called and spoken to customer service regarding the additional charges, they told us to email, so we did and then have been told that Europcar are not aware of what their staff say to customers in person and that the additional charges are voluntary.
Europcar - do better. You should be aware of what your staff are telling customers and scamming people out of money. Will never be using you again and have told everyone we can of the dodgy ways.
We rented a car at the Orly airport…
We rented a car at the Orly airport which was prepaid prior to our arrival. The employee printed a one page fictitious document indicating we would be responsible to pay $35,000, the netbook value of the car in the event of so much as a scratch and we were told the only way to avoid this was to buy insurance or we could simply walk away and not have our car that we had already paid for. I chose to buy the minimum insurance per day, which was €20 against my wishes and the employee agreed to rip up his one page document. (recognize that we had no need to take out any insurance because we had coverage with our credit card nor had we ever taken out insurance in the prior 25 years of European car rental). The employee then printed another document which included costs for all of the various types of insurance and when I questioned him, his answer was, don’t worry about it. It’s a formality you will only be charged for what you agreed to pay, which was the minimum daily rate of €20. As you may imagine this was another lie because I received a credit card charge the day after the car was returned for an additional $1200 which included all the different types of insurance available, and that employee took it upon himself to electronically sign the document on our behalf, which is malicious and blackmail. There is no other word for that. I spoke with Europcar on this matter via approximately 13 emails and of course they indicated there was nothing they could do about that because an electronic signature is a contract and mind you that was not something that we signed so in conclusion to anyone that that’s considering renting a car with this company, it would be ill advised.
They send a claim and asked to pay 300EUR for small scratch, more or less for nothing. I am 100% sure, that I do not have any damage during my 2 days trip.
I left a car before working hours 5 in the morning.
At 9:38 they make a photos with very small scratch and ask to pay 300EUR for nothing. I am 100% sure, that I do not have any damages during my 2 days trip.
Avoid EUROPCAR at all cost (SCAM)
Avoid EUROPCAR at all cost (SCAM)
We rented a car from Europcar at Mallorca Airport, and the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. At pickup, staff tried to upsell us aggressively and claimed only one of our reserved cars was available, pushing us toward a more expensive option.
The real issue came at drop-off. A staff member pointed out a small dent on the door and claimed it was new damage. However, I had video evidence showing the dent was already present when we picked up the car. Despite this, the staff refused to review the evidence or discuss it, insisting we contact customer service by email instead.
Their attitude made it seem like this is a routine practice. They showed no interest in resolving the situation, as if they already knew how this would play out. I also photographed several other cars in their parking lot with similar dents, suggesting they may already be aware of these issues and still attempt to charge customers for them at return. A line of dissatisfied clients can already be an indication that they have no understanding towards their clients.
It felt like a deliberate tactic: identifying pre-existing minor damage at drop-off and charging customers who are in a rush to catch a flight. In our case, we had no time to dispute it properly without risking missing our flight. There was even an identical car to ours that had the same bump in the same location - see photo (incredible coincidence)!
On top of that, their additional fees are excessive, sometimes even higher than the original fine itself, and they withdraw money directly from your account without proper resolution.
This experience completely ruined the end of our trip. Compared to other companies like Avis, the difference in service and transparency is too big to stay quiet.
I strongly recommend avoiding Europcar at Mallorca Airport ( I would avoid it else where as well)
Perfect service
Seven months ago we rented a car (via Sunny Cars) for a holiday in South Africa from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Perfect service. There was a problem with the suspension of the first car and we got a replacement vehicle the same day. (We were lucky we were close to a major city.) No surprises afterwards either.
Cancellation the day of
Eurocar chelmsford-I should not have ignored the previous reviews before booking a van from this company.
They cancelled our booking just two hours before the scheduled collection time, even though we had booked three weeks in advance. We had planned everything around our moving day, and their last-minute cancellation completely ruined those plans.
A friend had even booked a hotel so they could help me move, so they ended up wasting both their time and money because of the cancellation.
The company was extremely unprofessional and showed a complete lack of reliability. I would not recommend them to anyone.
Made unfair charges to my credit card…
Made unfair charges to my credit card (took money from my deposit)
Won’t respond to emails, won’t refund
Thiefs.cannot be trusted.
They put us in danger and didn't take responsibility even after promising they would
Do not rent from this place. We had an absolutely horrible experience. We got a flat tire on a Saturday. There was no spare tire. No repair kit. Customer service closed. Roadside assistance number doesn't work for US phones. Totally stranded with all of our kids in the middle of nowhere. We found a local company and paid 250CHF out of pocket to patch the tire. When we returned the car Europcar told us to send an email. So we did and they responded by promising us a refund on the tire repair. We just had to send our banking details. So we did. Then they emailed and said actually no we aren't going to refund you. This is horrible customer service! Go ahead and rent from this company if you want to be endangered by being stranded without help from them. And to top it all off they refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Not providing a car with either a spare tire or a repair kit and no reliable customer service contact information is dangerous. And going back on what they promised in writing is just bad business.
I would never use this company again
I would never use this company again. What they claim on their website is misleading at best and dishonest at worst. Their systems are antiquated (they told me that in person) so you cannot check in in advance as they claim. They are intent on upselling both car and cover and their service was very poor. Clearly the staff only focus on their commission. Europcar give the rental car industry no favours and I would advise anyone renting a car to avoid them at all costs
Europcar - Malaga Airport - beware!
I booked a rental car to be picked up at Malaga Airport on the 14th June.
At the time of booking I chose an Audi Q2 (or similar) and I was 'guaranteed' a premium car however when I arrived at Malaga airport I was informed that the only car available was a Citroen which was not on the premium list displayed at the time of booking. I was then 'upsold' an upgrade to a Mercedes - which I reluctantly agreed to - having been delayed 5 hours on my outbound flight - and was informed there would be an additional cost of 20EUR per day which over the 10 day rental period would be a total of 200EUR. On checking my invoice later I noticed that the actual additional charge for the 'upgrade' was 278.30EUR as there has been a 21% tax (and other unspecified charges) applied to this which was not verbally disclosed to me.
So the 'Premium car guarantee' I paid for was worthless, and I ended up paying much more than originally quoted for an 'upgrade'.
Clearly the 'modus operandi' of the Malaga Europcar staff is to suck as much money out of you as possible by refusing you the car you were guaranteed, forcing you to 'upgrade' and then sneakily adding additional charges...very nice of them...
Complained to customer services, but this was a complete waste of my time. They didn't listen to my complaint and after a cursory'investigation' - which probably didn't happen - said everything was done properly and said the complaint was closed/resolved the same day.
Won't be booking with Europcar ever again.
I rarely leave negative reviews
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent experience with **Europcar at Munich Airport** was an absolute disaster from start to finish.
The first issue was the **waiting time**. I had to wait **over 1.5 hours** just to reach the counter. It wasn't even peak season or during a major trade fair in Munich. What made it even worse was that nearly every customer ahead of me had an issue that required the supervisor, **Mr. McCracken**, to come out and resolve it after quite some time. It was obvious that this wasn't an isolated incident but a recurring operational problem.
When I finally reached the counter, I was assisted by **Ms. Walter**. I mentioned the unacceptable wait, and her response was simply that they often deal with "difficult cases" and that there was nothing they could do about it.
She then handed me the keys and informed me that my **Volkswagen Golf** had a **manual transmission**. I immediately explained that there was no way we would ever book a manual car—we always reserve an automatic. Her response was, *"Well, you booked through Expedia. That's a discount provider, and there's nothing we can do."*
I asked whether I could upgrade to an automatic. She said it would cost **an additional €32 per day** and claimed they had nothing comparable available.
Ironically, while we were standing there, the customer at the next counter was handed the **exact same Volkswagen Golf with an automatic transmission**, even though he had originally booked a completely different vehicle in a higher category. Clearly, an automatic was available—they simply chose not to help.
I then asked to speak with the supervisor. **Mr. McCracken** came over, and instead of looking for a solution, he simply said they would **cancel my reservation**, adding that if I booked through a "cheap provider," that was my problem.
That attitude was completely unacceptable.
Let's be clear: **Europcar chose to advertise and sell its vehicles through Expedia.** Customers should not be treated as second-class simply because they booked through one of Europcar's own sales partners.
The entire atmosphere at the **Europcar Munich Airport** location was chaotic and poorly organized. The line was extremely long, customers were frustrated, and almost every transaction seemed to involve some kind of issue. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in years.
My recommendation: **Choose Sixt instead.** Even if it costs a few euros more per day, the difference in professionalism, efficiency, and customer service is absolutely worth it.
I will never rent from Europcar again. Based on my experience, I would also avoid dealing with **Ms. Walter** and **Mr. McCracken**. Rather than trying to help customers, they came across as defensive and unwilling to find solutions. Customer service should focus on solving problems—not creating more of them.
