Avoid!

I am trying to close my account as I have moved out. I have been trying for 2 days but their system keeps telling me I have to phone them up. There is no reason I shouldn't be able to do this online, they just seem to want to make it as unpleasant as possible for no reason at all.

Very satisfied customer 👍

I changed to Electric Ireland last year and was totally satisfied with their service. I have just renewed my contract for 2026/2027 and I am happy with my contract. Can’t comprehend why so many negative reviews?, perhaps 🤔 customers may share some of the blame due to a sense of infallibility.

The worst phone support.

Just the worst phone operator service. They cant explain the bills they are charging, I need to phone the ESB directly as only they have the meter information. They can't understand that 5 times the price of a bill is a nonsensical thing to attempt the charge with a direct debit with no warning.

I had an issue never received one of my parcels and I contacted customer services, a lovely girl called Jayne looked into it and the delivery company said delivered even though I knew and said it wasn't, she rearranged and sent out a replacement in one day

A really poor company

A really poor company. Hopeless systems and billing practices, error after error, combined with a terrible tendency to bully and threaten their customers even when they are at fault. Avoid. I recommend getting a Complaint Number from them if having a problem and using it to report them to the Commission for Energy Regulation.

I have never experienced such appalling…

I have never experienced such appalling customer service and such incompetence in all my years of dealing with utility companies both in the UK and in Ireland.
I have spent 2 hours trying to close my account as the sale on our house completed today. I first tried to do this online but after filling in all the information required, I was informed that I would need to contact Electric Ireland by phone. I did this and after holding on for 30 minutes, I was told by a very unhelpful and rude operator to try again later. Having tried again later and again after holding on for over 30 mins, I was told that they were unable to put me through to the moving team and the best they could offer was a call request for a week's time!! Such utter disregard for customer service and care, the staff I spoke to seemed completely clueless and disinterested, surely there is some level of monitoring of this service??? They should be shut down with immediate effect.

I just got a bill for €2000 estimated

I just got a bill for €2000 estimated, last bill was €600!!! How could I possibly have used that much. I nearly had a heart attack. I've tried to sort this out on the phone with their illiterate rep who by her own admission didn't have access or authority enough to deal with it. I already send a reading. AND their meter reader was here. Sick of this now. Reporting this to the ombudsman.

Power of mind

Hi ,
I was customer for one year , and all I can say , they are only ones who can offer smart meter rate as 24h -7 not day- peak- night at the time ,reson because we got refused service from other providers do to poor signal for smart meter, and there is no really much choice , all I can say all goes very smood , only thing happened when I sign up online it will get stock somewhere in system for month , I rang them and we got sorted it out quick ,also get cheaper price , and they close my account quicker than I thought , I can't see my final bill , but they send me email to tell that and that was ok , that why 4 stars , app works brilliant, cash back was nice bonus , customer service perfect , sign out happening without single phone call , this my experience, hopefully it helps make better decision.
I remember when I seen 1.5 reviews it will put me on pause , but I have a no much choice at the time do to smart meter reading poor signal , I said let's try and see , I also projecting that everything will go smoothly, we are leaving in time when things manifest very quick , I keep my self very calm and positive .
Good luck to you ❤️ I wish you smooth and positive experience with Electric ❤️Ireland ❤️

Next to useless

Next to useless. Told me to expect a call back on sign up Friday. Have not heard back, rang them today and they want all my details again, I am begining to think these lads don't want customers.

Typical Irish semi state rubbish once again.

EDIT: Got through to a Cody, and my God she was brilliant. I haven't had customer support like that in years. The whole Customer support team needs to take notes from her.

As of today I was taking to electric Ireland on renewing my contract. Everything was ok until I said I did not have a smart meter.
Instead of renewing at 25.86 inc it went 31 cents.
I am disabled so rang ESB to as if they could fit a smart meter ?
They said yes in four months 🙃
Holy Ireland what
Is this discrimination just because I don’t have a smart meter..
My daughter lives in Finland and they pay 4 cents a kw and will be 0.38 of a cent tomorrow.
Are we being ripped off

Avoid at all costs

This company is a scam. My account was shut down in January due to someone else giving my meter number as theirs. I wasn’t contacted about this, I found out because I noticed the €50 cancellation fee on my bill. Managed to get it back in my name, but my electricity bills skyrocketed after that.

I emailed several times throughout the year to express my concerns, ask if something was wrong, and if things could be investigated, because my bills literally doubled from what they were last year. This was even the case when we were living in the dark and without hot water to save money but the bills were still coming out at around €240 with only two of us in the household. (All the while I’m getting emails from them virtue signalling about how they don’t increase their prices often).

Each response I received was dismissive, condescending, and essentially placed the blame on me and talked down to me like I was stupid.

When talking to a sales rep from another electricity provider, they said it sounds like my day/night contract with Electric Ireland was cancelled without my consent back when they closed my account in January. For some reason, no one at Electric Ireland had the decency to tell me this or even look into my situation enough to see that that was the case. If anything, I’m owed hundreds because of their negligence.

Save yourself the stress and money and sign up with literally any other electricity provider.

⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆

⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆

I had a very stressful experience with Electric Ireland. One day my electricity suddenly went off — I didn’t receive any deactivation notice or top-up code, and I was left without power for almost a full day with my small children. I called customer service many times, asking for help, but the situation was confusing and exhausting.

I had to cook food in the fireplace to keep my kids warm and fed. When I finally reached a support agent, a very polite man tried to help and gave me a new code, but it didn’t work several times. After more than two hours of stress and waiting, my meter was finally deactivated.

Later, I changed to another electricity provider who activated my power within seconds — and I’m very grateful for their quick and professional service.

Eventually, Electric Ireland refunded me €684 that had been wrongly charged from my account over the previous year. I appreciate that they corrected their mistake, but the whole experience was extremely stressful and disappointing.

Awful customer service

I switched to Electric Ireland more than one month and I still do not have access to the portal, and I do not even know which plan is being applied.
How can a customer service be that bad?

The customer service is so bad you're…

The customer service is so bad you're better off avoiding them no matter what prices they quote.

My account was closed without me knowing, someone else had accidently given my MPRN number for their account so Electric Ireland just closed my account and now refuse to change the address blaming ESB, however after speaking with ESB they say all is in order and Electric Ireland just need to change my address on their system.

Electric Ireland just sending me around in circles for weeks now.

They make it easy to make a payment is the good part.
Contacting someone on voice is nigh on impossible.
However, their email support works commendably if you have a few days to handle an issue.
We have the typical, ugly, small-windowed Wicklow planning commission design enforced, poorly energy rated 'D' maybe even 'E' small Irish house, and our bills with EE are typically averaging €110/month.

Switch and Save

How is it that a semi-state owned organisation sells the most expensive energy in our country?

I have left Electric Ireland today to save money because Electric Ireland only offer good rates to brand new customers, while they charge higher rates to existing customers who have been loyal for years.
