Not a good experience

If you are anything like me then Edison Nation will be a complete waste of your time. If you are not interested in designing small, simple, easily manufactured plastic products which are not complicated in any way then this is not for you. I have submitted many products over the years I have been a member. Anywhere from new wheelchair designs to physical therapy products, electronic kids toys, exercise equipment etc. I'm a patient guy but when your product gets held onto for over a year it can become very frustrating. I began to see a pattern that Edison nation was not interested in pushing the product design much farther than your initial concept. They say you can send in a design drawn out on a napkin, not true, you would not get anywhere. I went to university for Industrial Design so I am use to fleshing out a concept for presentations, if you are not it will be an uphill battle for you. Take a look at what all designs they have excepted and you will get an idea of what is really viable. I haven't found anything else out there other than pushing the product yourself through a design firm which is expensive. Your interests may be different than mine with a different outcome, just think about how you actually might be a fit. No need in spending years of your time and money.

I discovered that Edison will own your idea and give you very little...

I was looking at their site to see how much Edison actually gives you, the inventor, and how much they keep for themselves. It was VERY hard to find the information and it is hidden away (yes - I would say "Hidden" because I do not believe they want to you know and certainly do not put this info up front!) in the Legal Section in a document called INNOVATOR AGREEMENT. It seems that if/when it is licensed, you get either 7.5% or, I think, half or that. They keep the other half of you 7.5%, meaning you end up owning 3.75%. This does not seem to be a good deal to me! In fact it sounds really terrible. Here is the link to their document [Ah - not allowed to put it in - go to their website - look under "LEGAL", then look for "WHO OWNS THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OF MY INVENTION IF MY IDEA IS SELECTED?" - it says "Edison Nation acquires the rights to your idea (please see the Innovator Agreement)" ]. Read it for yourself.

I have now talked with a proper patent attorney and he is very helpful, and do ALL the work for $10,000. Alternatively there is an online course or tutorial called PatentPathway which looks pretty amazing - you get support from attorneys. I contacted them too and they answered right back. I may use them - they are much cheaper ($990).

Edison nation is a joke

Edison nation is a joke! for all intents and purposes, it's a cult where a bunch of inventor wannabe's submit stupid ideas for $25 each! Then they sit around and watch their dashboards for hours, days and weeks on end hoping the idea will move forward and be chosen out of thousands! Meanwhile Louis Foreman and company are laughing all the way to the bank! Ask yourself what product successes they've had. Then look up a product called "Eggies" and see what a spectacular failure it really was!!

Edison Nation is Extremely slow at…

Edison Nation is Extremely slow at moving your idea through there process. I waited 6 months with my idea stuck in the "Evaluation" phase, with no communication. When I reached out to inquire if inventors could submit to other invention companies due to the extremely long wait. I received an unpleasant response saying that my idea would now be removed and to go ahead and pursue other avenues. I waited all that time and spent the money to yield no result. I do not recommend individuals use Edison Nation if you are looking for a sense of urgency and professionalism.

I would not recommend this company to…

I would not recommend this company to any inventor. Find another way with perhaps an investor to get your product launched. I have a truly innovative , fun and effective not to mention low cost to manufacture, fitness machine that they dropped after stage 3. Two of them, one a sitting machine and the other a stand up one. This really makes me question their motives to truly help customers and inventors. Also, there was zero questions or concerns given to me about my invention. Also, zero specifics given aboutvthere decision to drop it, just general ones and I was told if I wanted more feedback, I would have to have a monthly paid membership. Wow...do apparently their " expertise" in the fitness industry and appropriate reasoning is only available if I pay more money..something it would have taken their team 5 minutes to write to me. Also, I ask, what awesome fitness inventions that have done well have they gotten to the market place? I will research that, but I believe none. It appears they are more interested in the income of a high volume of $25 submissions, than truly getting awesome products rapidly to the marketplace. Sorry to write this, but it seems it is quite obvious and in a short time, after great sales, God willing, I believe it will prove to be true.

We are sorry to hear that this innovator is unhappy with the decision that our organization made upon reviewing his submission. Unfortunately upon researching the submission and reviewing the existing market for fitness products our team did not reach the same conclusion about this concept that the innovator himself has.
When visiting our website we provide information about the services we offer and the two different levels of membership, Free and Insider membership. Within the information provided and our FAQ section we detail out exactly the benefits of an Insider status, which includes idea specific feedback as one benefit.
While we would love for every submission to turn into a commercialized product and a success for every one of our members, not every idea makes it through the standard review process.
This individual clearly believes in his idea, and we wish him the best with whatever future path he pursues in his efforts to bring it to market.
With those well wishes we also will advise that Edison Nation provided the services as described on our website.

I am a member of Edison Nation

I am a member of Edison Nation. They have been professional, courteous, and informative. Where can you submit an invention for such little risk, have it critiqued and researched for so little? Nowhere! Their clients' success is their success. If they had bad intentions or were a scam, they would not be in business this long and they would not have chat rooms with the opportunity to complain. Go to their website and read what their members are saying. If you are frustrated, unhappy or disappointed that they did not accept your invention - they give it back to you to pursue on your own. Communication is easy. I have sent inquiries and received emails back within 24-48 hours. This company gives inventors that have no contacts, no money to invest and limited knowledge, a team of professionals that do all of that for you. It's great to have them as a business partner.

I went through the process of filling out their ONLINE product submission form. I NOW believe they are reading the submissions as you type them in...! I tried to pay my $25 submission fee...and THE SITE tells me the card IS invalid. IT IS NOT. I called the card company to make sure all was well...tried to submit again...same message. So, NO SUBMISSION. Taking ideas part of this company? Anyone else gone through this? I also tried to call Edison Nation...no way to get to an operator to ask WHY my card was not accepted. I was a member of Edison nation and I have reason to belive it is a scam

I was a member of edison nation and I belive it is a scam, once you figure out that you have been taken. An edison nation team members MUTES your account so you can not tell other members of the forms about how you where scammed and the phone number edison nation has listed is a fake number. Edison Nation cuts off all contact with you. I have spoken with the owner of Edison Nation about the muting of accounts. only becouse I got the real edison nation phone number from an Inventor who has had litigation with Edison Nation. He stated that he did not know anything about the muting of account and that he will look in to the matter. It has been some time since I have spoken to the owner of Edison Nation, and I have only received attacks and attempted assassination of my character by edison nation employees on social media. Edison Nation employees have violated my privacy rights by I referring to my by the name listed on my credit card info instead of using my account user name for that website. Edison Nation has put a large effort into attacking me on different social media platform other then Edisons Nations own websit. In an effort to silence me, it just confirms what I have already suspected, That Edison Nation are not honest actors and they have much to hide. My complaint is, I was an Edison Nation insider for 2 years, and part of that subscription is a monthly Inventors Digest subscription. I have only received 4 copies of Inventors Digest spread out over that 2 year period, one of the magazines was so badly torned and ripped in the shipping proccess. It was not readable. Another edison nation customer, asked about the magaine subscription and we both shared our experiences. Then an Edison Nation Team member jumped into the chat and demaned that we stop the comversation and we private message an Edison Nation team member about that. This particular edison Nation Team member has a reputation for being vicious in her attempt force positive feedback and testimones from edison nation customers even if they are not deserved. I politely as " If Edison Nation is honest why the effort to control the narrative?" I edison nation quietly Muted my account without me being aware of it. But keeps my account open for futurew payments to edison nation. I belive this is loathsome, edison nation should make users aware of the censorship of thier website. I would have never trusted my Invention to edison nation if I had known that they are manipulating the testimonies of thier customers. Edison Nation uses the forms and the fake phone number listed on the website to create appearance that you can get in contact with someone if something happens to your invention or intellectual property. The reality is Edison Nation can just secretly mute your account and be done with you, irrespective of what the out come is for you.

Edison Nation would like to take the opportunity to address the concerns expressed in this last round of comments one at a time.

Edison Nation is not a scam. We are a very legitimate innovation company whose goal is to work with innovators in our community to give their ideas the best chance at commercialization success. All ideas are evaluated by our team through an outlined process available on our site - www.edisonnation.com/faq. While we’d love to commercialize all ideas that come through our system, there are ideas that do not make it to the pitching process due to various reasons including competitors, mass market appeal, engineering and/or cost challenges and more. We have the utmost respect for all our members, and thank them on a daily basis for their trust in us.

Edison Nation’s phone hotline is a legitimate phone number featuring an automated directory that will allow callers to leave messages for either staff members or our support team. Messages are checked and responded to on a daily basis. Our support team also has a dedicated email address - questions@edisonnation.com - that is checked during all business hours. All messages are responded to within 24-48 business hours of receipt.

Edison Nation does not stand for unkind, bullying comments to anyone, regardless of their status. Our forum rules are outlined as follows:
Before posting, please read the following rules:
-Be kind.
-Be respectful of others.
-No profanity.
-No spamming. Do not use the forums to promote your invention services. It is not acceptable to promote a link to your product on commercial websites.
-Do not post idea-specific or account-specific questions. Please send these questions to questions@edisonnation.com. If these requests are posted within the threads, our response will be sent via email and the thread will be removed.
-Do not post requests for technical support. Please send all support requests to: questions@edisonnation.com.
-Do not publish any telephone numbers, email addresses or physical addresses without the permission of the user.
-Do not threaten or harass others.
-Do not post content that is of sexual or violent nature or promotes racism.
-Do not post images or other content that you do not own the rights to.
-Do not post details of your invention idea - these forums are public and that is public disclosure.
-Do not post derogatory comments about fellow members, the EN team or partner companies.
-If you have infringement concerns around an idea you submitted, please send an email to questions@edisonnation.com outlining the details of your submission and a link of the existing product. --We'll review within 24-48 business hours and respond back via email.
-The Edison Nation Forums are monitored regularly by members of the Edison Nation team and we reserve the right to remove any posts that violate any of the rules listed above.

As outlined in our first round of comments, the Edison Nation forums are a place of mutual respect, support and learning. Bullying, ridicule and defaming remarks against fellow members or EN team members (including the derogatory comments in the review above) is not tolerated and is a violation of our forum rules. The reason this particular account was muted is because the member violated these rules. We welcome constructive feedback, in fact, there are several threads that are available within the EN forums where members expressed dissatisfaction, confusion and/or concern. These threads are visible and the EN team responded to all concerns promptly and professionally.

In the conversation with EN’s owner, it was requested that all issues were sent in writing so he could review the history of the account with the team. We have yet to receive any written communication. The member can send to our owner, or they are welcome to send it to questions@edisonnation.com and we’d be happy to address any concerns.

There have been absolutely no instances where Edison Nation team members have spoken about this member in any way. If there are believed instances, we’d ask the member to send us screenshots of these examples so we can review and act accordingly.

Regarding missing issues of Inventors Digest, if the member sends full details of their Insider membership - dates they upgraded/downgraded, etc., we’d be happy to review and provide any qualifying issues of Inventors Digest that were not sent to the account. Again, please send those details to questions@edisonnation.com.

Edison Nation would not exist if not for its community. We are our innovators. No matter the category, the company or the topic, beyond our goal of commercializing products, we strive to create a safe, secure, kind environment for our innovators, whether or not they chose to submit their ideas. We work each and every day to improve ourselves and our user experience. All of that being said, we acknowledge that we are not a fit for everyone and the member above is welcome to delete their account or request that the team deletes it for them. If the member opts to remain in the community, they are certainly welcome but a change in behavior and tone will be required to follow our guidelines. Whichever path is taken, we wish the person the best of luck.

As we have outlined a number of resolution paths, this will be our final response to the comments above on this platform.

Thank you.

A world class company that I trust implicitly with to protect my ideas and to represent them to companies who are actively seeking new innovations to bring to market.

I have been partnering with Edison Nation since 2009. I have submitted scores of ideas to this company. They have always protected the privacy of my ideas. All of these ideas have been evaluated by a team of experts for the express purpose of finding a company willing to license them and bring them to market. Many of my ideas were declined, and as a seasoned inventor I know this is just the reality of inventing; but I have had a significant number of ideas presented to major companies that are looking for new product ideas. Edison Nation has experts in all areas of product licensing including design, engineering, marketing, branding, intellectual property, etc.
For only $20.00 I can submit an idea to a company that is on the inventor's side and has the talent, resources and desire to see that product licensed and selling in the marketplace. It is almost too good to be true but it is true. This is a company designed for one thing....to help the independent inventor license their product ideas successfully.
The investment is minimal on my part and the payout should one of my ideas be licensed, is outstanding. I don't know of any other company in the world that offers this much value and this caliber of opportunity to us inventors. In addition, I have learned a great deal from the Edison Nation Community on the forums and the support their from my fellow inventors has been one of the keys to keeping me in this arena. I recommend this company without any reservation. I can't guarantee one of your ideas will be licensed, but I know you will be treated fairly and your idea will be in the hands of a top notch company that was created for the express purpose of helping inventors such as yourself.

Partner with a proven winner!

Edison Nation makes the impossible, possible.
I've trusted EN with my I/P for over 2 years with many of my concepts making it to stage G7 (the presentation level) in a variety of live product searches. By partnering with EN my innovations go from my home office/studio into corporate meeting rooms with multi-national corporations top brass, all by a team of professionals that know how to "get in the game". I believe my big win is just around the corner.

Edison Nation is a forward-thinking company and is a great place for inventors

Being an inventor is exciting and creative but can also be very expensive when trying to set out on your own. Edison Nation has made it their mission to help inventors, especially in this regard. When you submit your idea to Edison Nation you only ever pay one small review fee of $25 ($20 for Insiders) and that's it! Even if your idea ends up making a million dollars you never pay another cent, they do all the work. This is great for inventors because it allows us to focus on creating which is what we love to do!

Great communication and service!

Overall I've been very pleased with how things have been going since becoming involved in the Edison Nation community. It's been a very exciting ride for sure.

I only have a couple things I wish were a little better. I wish the amount of time from an idea being licensed to it being actually on shelves was better explained. Considering how quickly another venture of mine is going through this process, it's odd to me that this is taking so long. I kind of wish I would have known that prior so I didn't get all excited that this product licensing was going to help me financially sometime soon.

The other thing is that I wish the royalty checks weren't once a year. I understand why it is the way it is, but that's just a long time to wait for a check to come through. I was hoping to use this money to help my family out financially and since it's taking til the end of the year to get the product out onto shelves, I'm going to have to wait another year to reap any benefits? Even every 6 months would be a better idea. An entire year to deal with any issues that may come up seems a little too padded in my opinion. Perhaps when making a deal with a potential licensee you could structure a deal where the inventor/EN would get a quarterly advance (nothing crazy, of course) until the product hits shelves. And whatever was advanced would come out of any future earnings. It's kind of a gamble, but it might keep companies from dragging their feet on getting a product out.

These are just a couple things to make it damn near perfect. Probably selfish reasons at that. :)

The staff have been VERY open with me about any changes or updates which is extremely comforting. Without good communication this process would feel quite frustrating. So great job on that!

I really enjoy the forums. Being able to help out fellow inventors is a fun thing to do. I really enjoy hearing everyone else's approach to a problem.

I did enjoy being an Insider for year, but I didn't have a ton of submissions and I was really waiting to see what happened with the Shower Lily to submit many more ideas. I had submitted one idea for a particular search and the feedback didn't really tell me anything. I had almost thought that the feedback was meant for someone else. If there had been a way to maybe clarify any misunderstandings before just giving it an "X", I think that would have been helpful. Not that the idea was a homerun or anything, but it would have been nice to at least learn from the feedback about what was a potential issue with the device so that I could correct it and resubmit. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what the feedback system is designed to do.

That's about all I can think if at the moment. I hope it's been helpful and not too bitchy.

Thank you guys for everything!

EN is the real deal! My idea was tested on ASOTV; now it's being pitched to licensors!

Do you have the persistence and patience to check out the tons of info. on the forums and blogs from all the awesome members and EN staff? Then, you will learn that it's not to good to be true; it does cost only $25 to submit an idea. Like everything good in life, the other part is putting the time into the forums and blogs to learn everything about the innovation process, then, like me, you too will have a chance at something I would not have thought as a possibility for my life!

Very positive experience

I had a very positive association with Edison Nation. My product was selected for development by a major manufacturer, and I never had any reservations about the trustworthiness of my EN contact. I was assured that they were working in my best interest, as our agreement was a 50/50 deal.
My only comment/observation, is that once our contract was signed that I had pretty much no information on how my product was being developed, marketed or sold. I would like to have had some input/info in the process; as the inventor, I had a vision for its uses as well as ideas on promoting it. Although my invention had very limited success, EN was great to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their guidance and expertise to any other inventor.

Hi Anne!

Thanks so much for your review and know that we have done a lot in the last couple of years to improve the overall communication with all innovators, especially those who have licensing deals in place. Once someone has a deal, an ongoing communications schedule is set up between the innovator and our Community Manager for updates until that product hits store shelves.

Thank you again for taking the time and all our best!

EdisonNation.com Is Everything An Inventor Needs!

I've been a member of EdisonNation.com for over three years. I recommend this site to any inventor who is looking for a home for their ideas. Although they do not guarantee success on every idea you have, that only shows they are up front and honest. They are not going to make false promises.

With just the submission fee of $25 or $20 for Insiders...they will do all of the leg work for you...I like that they always work with Non-Disclosure Agreements because I have found many companies doesn't.

As for my personal experience, I have found their Community Forum is a great place to find information, answers to my questions, suggestions and so many members are there to share their knowledge, advice, success stories and yes...even the heartbreaks of their inventions. You would have to pay out a lot of money to get that type of information anywhere else.

All of the members are there to help cheer each other on because it is not a competition of them against you. Everyone is in it for the same reason. We all support each other and when one person reaches success, it gives the rest of us the realization that it can happen to us as well.

The EN Staff are very professional and will go above and beyond to give your ideas the best possible chance to be successful and I highly recommend them to everyone..whether they are just starting out in the world of inventions, or whether they have just that one idea or many ideas!

Great Learning Experience

I am constantly learning about the process of inventing/innovating on Edison Nation. I have come a long way since I started trying to bring my ideas to market. The process is well explained by the EN staff and community members on the forums. I have tired other invention sites and have found that EN is the best out of all the sites I have submitted to. En is always trying to make the site user freely. I feel the odds are better on En than the other sites I have tired.
The most important feature about EN, is that my ideas are held in strict confidence. I will no longer submit to open sites that expose ideas for all to see.

Trustworthy Partner for Inventors

I've worked with many of the companies out there that exist to help inventors develop and commercialize their ideas. They are not all bad, and a few are pretty good. However, I can honestly say that Edison Nation is "best in class" and there is no company I would trust more as my inventing partner. I've heard of and experienced myself some of the frustrating aspects of inventing with Edison Nation: sometimes long waits for progress; a feeling that no one really "gets" your vision; emotional ups and downs as cherished ideas almost but don't quite make it to commercialization, and management changes at 3rd-party sponsor companies delaying or ending searches, etc. However, I've come to realize that these are not issues with Edison Nation, rather they mirror the "real world" of inventing, where things aren't always smooth, fast, and easy and decision-makers can't see the perfect idea in your head when perhaps you haven't explained or illustrated it well. To indict EN for these experiences would be to "shoot the messenger", when the reality is that dealing with the real world of product development is much, much easier with EN as a "buffer" and advocate than without. If I had one big criticism of EN over the last 5 years it would be that they did not communicate enough how much they were doing for us behind the scenes and the lengths they go to advocate for us and champion our ideas. Even this communication gap has been addressed in recent years as EN has upped their game in terms of transparent communication, hence my revelation that the frustrations I have experienced are but a shadow of the ones EN has dealt with on my behalf. It is actually incredible how much time, talent and hard-core resources are being leveraged via EN in support of my ideas as a true "partner". The truth is I'm an amateur inventor and though I flatter myself that I've developed skills in a few key areas, I don't have the time nor do I have the expertise to address the whole process of getting an idea from my head to store shelves. I hold my ideas dearly, perhaps too dearly, and it is difficult for me to trust anyone but myself to develop them, but Edison Nation has *earned* my trust and without EN my ideas would be locked away doing no good for anyone. Edison Nation has been and will continue to be my trustworthy partner as I develop and attempt to commercialize my invention ideas.

The most secure online invention submission company

Everything has been above and beyond with Edison Nation, with one exception. I feel is they have grown too fast. So you must be patient. I have success being chosen for Everyday Edisons season 4. (Over five years ago). When I look at my dashboard I see they have presented it to 56 companies. They have told me about two, and gave me valid feedback for one, which was they would like to see a smaller footprint for the fitness machine. I submitted a machine with a smaller footprint. I would like to have more feedback to be able to make my mind up whether or not to try it on my own. They are very trustworthy and will give me all the rights back to my invention if I choose. They have the greatest community of inventors. They are like family and are willing to help new inventors with every stage of inventing.
