Sale of My Business

Downs were recommended to me and due to the incompetence of a previous Solicitor took up matters very late in the day when time constraints were critical. Despite this Julian Harvey , Emily MacNiven and Heather Love were excellent in dealing with matters to meet very difficult and tight time frames. Without them I am sure the sale would have collapsed. An excellent team to help in matters that even as a professional I do not deal with. An exceptional firm that I would highly recommend

Downs trying to remove my negative review. Terrible experience.

I've been emailed by Trustpilot saying that Downs are trying to take down my negative review unless I provide personal information. I don't want to do that and don't see why I should have to. I stand by my earlier negative review. The Downs solicitor we used was extremely arrogant and much more interested to tell us about her "very senior" London experience and how good she is instead of concentrating on the work she was meant to be doing for us. She was unpleasant to deal with at every stage. She also charged a huge fee for very little and we have since had to hire another company to do the work. We will never use Downs again and this is a true review which should be allowed to stay on Trustpilot to warn other people of what to expect if they use Downs. The fact that Downs are trying to remove my previous negative review is shocking. They seem to want to cover things up instead of making the changes to their people to deliver a better professional service at a fair price. From my experience using Downs was a terrible experience and I will never use them again. They should read the other negative reviews on here which seem to be consistent that they need to improve their people and service rather than trying to stop people saying the truth. A bad experience made worse by Downs trying to stop negative comments. What kind of legal firm even does that? Terrible behaviour.

Dear Mr H.

We are very sorry to read this review; we were certainly not trying to take down your review but had used Trustpilot’s response system to ask for more details from you so that we could look into your experience more effectively and try and gain an understanding of what happened. If you would like to discuss your experience with someone at the firm please feel free to e-mail our managing partner, Amber O'Connor, on a.oconnor@downslaw.co.uk. Property sale - Dorking Branch

In July this year I instructed Chris Chrisofi at the Dorking Branch to handle the sale of my property. He was very professional, helpful and quick to respond. He made the whole process painless.
I would definitely use his services again and would certainly recommend him.

Review for Liz Rose

I cannot thank Liz Rose enough for the outstanding service she provided in handling the sale of my house. From start to finish, Liz was professional, efficient, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire process.
She kept me fully informed at every stage, explaining everything clearly and making what can often be a stressful experience feel smooth and straightforward. Her attention to detail, prompt communication, and calm, reassuring manner were truly exceptional.
I’m extremely grateful for all her hard work and dedication — I couldn’t have asked for a better solicitor. I would highly recommend Liz Rose

First time buyer

Selina Troughton and Dominic Maillot have acted as my solicitor and assistant since the beginning of my adventure on buying my first property. Most of the communication were by email, with very comprehensive information and follow up steps and progress. A couple of phone conversations took place when some documents needed urgent attention. Overall experience superb. I have found the system to share documents very secure and easy to access. All my questions were answered in plain English and very quickly. I received useful advice from both, Selina and Dominic. I can thank you enough for making the process so easy. NGV.

A painful process

A painful process! Our chain has been held up by Downs alone and their inability to reply within a reasonable timescales for weeks. Downs are the only link in the chain preventing our exchange and completion. When we finally receive a response, it’s incomplete and we have to wait another extended period for an acceptable reply. I could not recommend including Downs Solicitors anywhere in your chain.

Dont use this firm for conveyancing…

When using this firm for conveyancing the letter of engagement creates the impression that fees will be half upfront (£2.2k) and half on completion. And any additional fees will be reviewed in advance of them being incurred. This is not the case the fees structure allows Downs to get half up front and the company reserves the right to charge an interim fee at any time for anything up to the full quoted amount. If at anytime during the transaction they get the impression that the deal might not complete they will put in an interim free for nearly the whole amount. An attempt was made to muddy the waters by arguing that additional work outside the original scope of the instruction had been done but this was not the case. So we have now paid £3.8k of the orginially quoted £4.4k. The transaction is nowhere near completing and no work outside the original scope has been done by Downs. Furthermore the quality of the advice we’ve received during the process has been very poor.

By far the worst solicitor I've come…

By far the worst solicitor I've come across.Senior Partner was the most pompous and sanctimonious woman Ive ever come across stating probate would take far above industry norm. When challenged she asked us to take our service away which we were more than happy to do. This level of service should be challenged.

I used Downs Solicitors to complete land registry change and will

I used Downs Solicitors to complete a will for my mother and adjust land registry for an apartment that she owned. It took over a year of chasing and even once I paid the final invoice in March I realise that Downs had not processed the actual land registry request. Very disappointed as there was a total vacuum where project management should have been taking place. This was a simple task so make sure you ask any questions if your ask of them is complicated.
