Landlord Gas Safety

Recently had Dorset Plumbing go to 1 of my properties to do a Landlord Gas Safety. My tenant asked for a PM visit and I got a couple of text messages, 1 on the day and 1 when the engineer was on his way. He went and my tenant said the young man was tidy and polite. I received the Gas Safety certificate by email a couple hours of the visit and the price was great. A good experience all round, will definately use again.

Be warned

I am writing this to warn others in the Bournemouth area about my experience with Dorset Plumbing. I called them out for a Gas Safety inspection, and the engineer "failed" my boiler, claiming it was emitting Carbon Monoxide. I was told the boiler was irreparable because parts were not available and was advised to install a brand-new boiler which they would send a quote for.
Despite not performing a proper service, they insisted on charging me for one. I had to call the office to get this refunded, which they eventually did, but the experience felt very wrong.
The Second Opinion:
Because the "scaremongering’ didn't sit right with me, I called out a second independent engineer. He confirmed that because the boiler is a room-sealed unit and my CO alarm (located right next to it) had never gone off, the immediate "danger" had been wildly exaggerated. Most importantly, he sourced the "unavailable" part for just £50.
My boiler was fixed with an hour's labor and has now officially passed its safety inspection.
Customer Service:
When I tried to discuss this discrepancy with the company, they were incredibly unhelpful. They hung up on me when I questioned their ethics and sent an email telling me not to contact them again. It seems they would rather silence a customer than explain why they tried to condemn a perfectly fixable boiler. They would also not tell me where the engineer had put the fuse he took out when disabling the boiler!
Verdict: A £50 fix turned into a new boiler sales pitch. Please get a second opinion before committing or being told you need a new boiler with this company.

We are extremely concerned by the claims made in your post, as they do not reflect what occurred during our visit. This is probably one of the greatest pieces of fiction we have ever read.

Our engineer attended your property solely to carry out a Gas Safety inspection. During this inspection, a leak of combustion was identified inside the boiler. Under Gas Safe regulations, there are only two categories of risk that we can legally apply:

1. **At Risk (AR)**
2. **Immediately Dangerous (ID)**

Your appliance legally fell within the **Immediately Dangerous (ID)** category. Despite what any other engineer may have told you, there is no alternative category such as “the CO alarm hasn’t gone off so it’s fine.” The presence of a carbon monoxide alarm does not override the legal requirement to classify and act upon a combustion leak appropriately.

If you are unhappy with the actions our engineer took, we strongly encourage you to contact **Gas Safe Register** directly. We are governed by them and operate strictly within their rules and legal obligations. Our engineers are required by law to make appliances safe when classified as Immediately Dangerous, which is exactly what was done.

We also wish to clarify that:

* We never sent you a quote for a new boiler.
* We explicitly advised that we did not wish to quote for a repair due to the level of abuse directed towards our engineer during and after the visit.

It is therefore unclear how this situation could reasonably be described as a “new boiler sales pitch.”

Regarding communication, we informed you that we would no longer respond to further calls after you contacted the office numerous times per day and sent repeated text messages, many of which were abusive in nature. At that point, it was necessary to set boundaries for the wellbeing of our staff.

We always act in accordance with Gas Safe regulations and with safety as our absolute priority. We categorically reject any suggestion that our actions were motivated by sales.

Radiator and pipework completed.

We had a radiator installed in our bathroom and some pipework completed by Dorset Plumbing. They were very transparent around costs of the works and the quality of the work completed was very good. Vince and the team were very helpful and gave us some advice around our faulty boiler also which was very appreciated. We will certainly be using them again for any plumbing works.

Needed an urgent gas boiler service as part of our house sale, and was delighted with the ease of the online appointment booking, clear pricing, helpful follow-up communications and a friendly engineer, who did a great job. Boiler service

I recently had my boiler serviced by Dorset Plumbing , and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, the service was professional, efficient, and completely hassle-free. The engineer arrived right on time, was polite and knowledgeable, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why.

Shocking customer service

Firstly let me say, our heating was working perfectly before. We had an engineer come out to do a gas safety check and boiler service on 1st December 2025. The engineer was very nice but after all was done. We noticed we didnt have heating anymore. They never checked before leaving if everything still worked. I rang them back and another engineer came a few days later to check and said it was probably some other part located in the under stairs cupboard that would need replacing. Though he never looked there and only at the boiler. He also said we would 100% be able to still have heating by operating it directly from the boiler instead of the thermostat. Again nothing checked to see if this was the case or not. He left and we still had no heating and what he said would 100% work, didn't. I had to ask for my gas safety inspection certificate to be sent to me and when they sent that, they sent a quote for this part which was their best guess as to a fault but hadn't actually looked at it. So I tried to ascertain why they leave without ensuring we have heating at 1st visit and how we know its this part. Is that the first one in troubleshooting? etc.etc.
They said basically it could be anything and they would need to do that then if that didnt work try something else at £60 an hour + vat.

So anyway 4 days later and I asked if we could please just get the heating working again and when could the engineer attend to replace the part. . . . .

I chased again . . . .

Silence

I chased again now a week and a bit without heating. I have two disabled autistic daughters who have now been in a freezing house for over a week.

Finally they come back, saying that me stating that the heating was working before they attended (which is the truth) insinuated that they broke it and they will never return to us again.

Wow, customer service hey. I didnt even get to raise a complaint and they threw their toys out the cot. Imagine if they received a complaint.

We carried out a routine service on your regular boiler. Shortly afterwards, you contacted us to say your heating was no longer working. We arranged for an engineer to return promptly, and during that visit he advised that the most likely cause was a faulty 2-port valve. However, because the area under the stairs was heavily cluttered, he was unable to fully access the components to complete a proper diagnosis. We explained that the cupboard would need to be cleared before we could confirm the issue.

We then gave you two options:

1. Proceed with replacing the 2-port valve, which based on the initial assessment was the most probable cause, or
2. Book a full diagnosis visit once the space had been cleared.

You did not accept either option and instead continued to respond with repeated questions and accusations suggesting we had caused the fault, despite having no evidence of this. As a result, we made the decision that we no longer wished to continue working for a customer who repeatedly assigns blame without basis, so we politely declined any further work, especially as we can't even see the faulty part let alone caused it to break

Any delays in progressing this job have been due to the above. Regarding the gas safety certificate, these are issued within a week as standard. You began requesting it immediately, which is why you felt it had been delayed, but it was still within our normal timeframe especially for this time of year, but as soon as you asked we sent it.

An exemplary local company.

I rang Dorset plumbing and within an hour had a wonderful man called Ben at my door to give an assessment…despite being in a more rural area. We had a quote the same day (!!), and by the next day had an agreed start date for complete boiler replacement, I must add that they pulled out all the stops due to my elderly mother living in an attached annexe.
We were lucky to have the amazing Jet, a highly skilled heating engineer, and someone we felt immediately comfortable with. She was prompt, friendly, and so easy to get along with. This is vital when having someone in your home. She was also kind and attentive to my mother, who would often come out and chat to her.
We now have heating and hot water!!!
I cannot praise this company enough!! Sadly I feel it’s very rare to get such amazing service from a local provider.
Special mention to Max and Angel, for their amazing customer services, and regular phone check-ins to make sure everything was going well. This a fantastically well run and conscientious company!!!!

The visiting engineer

The visiting engineer, Chris, was a really nice guy, quiet at first but very engaging and helpful, the sort of guy welcome in your home and treats it as your home. Chris diagnosed the problem very quickly and the whole system was soon operating as it should and all at a very reasonable cost too.

We were having problems with our boiler so we contacted Dorset plumbing. We were booked in very quickly and Jake, our engineer, visited and was very helpful and knowledgeable about what was wrong. He solved our issues with ease and we are very grateful. Thank you Jake.

Excellent from beginning to end for…

Excellent from beginning to end for my new boiler. When the boiler was fitted the engineer left my kitchen spotlessly clean. He was polite and fully respected my home. I will ensure to arrange with them a service for my boiler yearly as i know they are a company that can be trusted
