had a very disappointing experience…

had a very disappointing experience with Gabriel Larose at Devichy Avocats. Communication was a constant issue — he was often unavailable and rarely returned my calls or messages, which was extremely frustrating during an already stressful situation.
During our conversations, I frequently had to remind him who I was and explain my situation again, which made me feel unheard and poorly supported. I do not feel that my case was represented thoroughly or with proper attention.
I paid over $20,000 in legal fees and unfortunately did not see results that justified the cost. The outcome was the same despite the significant amount paid.
Based on my experience, I expected much better communication, follow-up, and representation.

Money grabber

Money grabber. You have to give them 2,500$ more so they can tell you if they can help you and this after paying $229 as a start. No help. Waste of money when you trying to get help when you can not even reach every end of month

Awkward way of doing business

They took payment at 15:57, and canceled my consultation at 16:15. Just odd behavior from a law firm. You usually reschedule your clients. They had sent a form for a family court case. I called back to inform them, it wasn't the right form but they said it didn't matter. Wrong form, took payment, canceled without rescheduling or knowing anything about my case. Weird

Run away from them

Run away from them. They took $2,500 and decided themselves to hired two lawyers. Yet, they will charge you even just for thinking about your case. I only spoke to them, and they took all my money without providing any service. They will still charge you even after you ask to close the case — that second will cost you $99. They are thieves and only care about money.

Unprofessional

They did not tell me before my call that I needed to pay a fee and fill out a form. So I was rushing to get this done while I was eating into my appointment time. I could not enter the CC info because their website has a bug. I tried to call back but no body answered. Thinking now, Im a little happy I didnt go with them as at least I was flagged to the unprofessionalism quickly.

'Hello! Would you like a lawyer to call you free of charge within 30 minutes?'
Lawyer calls 10 min later stating she charges $200/hr for a consult!! Wtf??

Terrible service

Terrible service, charged for every single phone call, never answers their phones, but expects you to at their convenience. Never returned my calls. Emilie Gagnon says she has her clients best interest at heart but that is NOT true. They are overworked. They have closed their business on google reviews to avoid bad recent reviews.

Takes money and offers no information, makes empty promises, ignore emails/calls, interrupts clients and jumps to conclusions

I had requested a consult with one of their civil litigation lawyers. I was then given an appointment for the next day. The lawyer's admin assistant called me to explain the $230 payment for a half hour of consultation. I paid and then was shortly called back by a civil litigation lawyer.
I began telling her my situation and 10 mins in she cuts me off to tell me that she'd not a criminal lawyer. I said I am just starting this process of finding a lawyer and selected the civil litigation lawyer because I thought that was the correct one. She said that while she could take my case suggested that a criminal lawyer would be best. Because she's a lawyer and I am not, I trusted her word and I agreed to her referring me to one. I left the phone call confused. I wanted to file a lawsuit but now I’m thinking that maybe she saw something in my situation that was much more serious.
I was then texted by a criminal lawyer who explained to me that her consult fee was $400. The difference here was that she wanted me to email her a summary of my situation in advance. So I did and immediately she told me that I needed a civil litigation lawyer. I was like what? That’s who I was just speaking to. Luckily I had not paid this one anything. So now I am upset. I was swindled out of $230 and back at square one.
I wanted to complete my consult. I emailed back the civil litigation lawyer and her assistant to ask to complete the consult and for her to open a file since she said she would take it. No response. I emailed again, no response. I called and left a voicemail. No call back. I emailed twice more and finally I got a reply. They said I could send them the summary of my situation that I sent the criminal lawyer and if my case was civil in nature, they would open a file for me. So I sent the summary. Waited a week and half and no response. I sent it again and no response.
So in the end, she took $230 from me and offered me no information or assistance all; she didn't even say she didn't want to take it. On two occasions I was told they would take my case, just ran me in a circle, and ignored me outright. At the end of the day, I had to ask myself, why would I want someone who has these undesirable qualities to represent me? Someone who interrupts her clients and jumps to conclusions before collecting all of necessary information. I can't say anything about the entire firm but this particular lawyer has proven herself to be a liar, unprofessional, disingenuous, and also doesn't appear to know what her job is as a civil litigation lawyer.

Delayed response times, and messy organisation

Legal battles are never fun and quite anxiety-inducing. The handling of my request for support was quite underwhelming. It all began with them not even being able to locate my deposit payment for 4 days, despite me following their exact instructions. Once they found it- no apology. And then it took another three days for find a lawyer for me. All this led me to pursue other alternatives, and now it'll take ages for me to receive the refund of my deposit. I'm honestly not even sure I'll receive it. It's not possible to provide any feedback on their google or facebook page, and now I see why.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience.
I don't usually take the time to leave reviews but this was the absolute worst experience.

had to pay thousands every week to get barely no updates on the case.

my lawyer seemed to be working or the opposite party rather than for me.

I explicitely expressed my wishes and they were disregarded again and again.

I was left explaining myself repeatedly, paying hourly to say the same thing over and over and not moving forward in this direction but rather being pressured to go the opposite way.

my case had domestic violence and it was about custody and visits for my 1year old son, lawyer had little to no empathy.

absolute worst experience ever AVOID at all cost.

Extremely expensive and bad services

where to start, the prices are insanely expensive!

They even charge you to answer simply email follow ups.

You have to run after them to have follow ups for your urgent cases. All in all extremely bad services and prices are beyond insane.

Unprofessional Handling of a Sensitive and Urgent Case

I rarely write negative reviews, but I feel it’s necessary to share my experience because it involved the well-being of my 6-month-old baby. After contacting Devichy’s customer service and senior authorities and not receiving an appropriate response, I feel compelled to let others know what happened.

During crucial negotiations with the other party, and just days before a scheduled court date, my lawyer informed me that she was going on vacation. She insisted that I needed to switch to a bilingual lawyer, even though I clearly stated that I speak and understand French well. I even offered to use an interpreter to avoid changing lawyers, but my suggestion was dismissed.

My case was transferred to a less experienced lawyer who charged a higher hourly rate, which I found completely unreasonable. When I raised my concerns with the customer service coordinator, I was shocked to hear her falsely claim that I had requested the lawyer change, which was absolutely untrue.

I also offered to pay the same rate I was paying my more experienced lawyer for the new lawyer, but they refused this proposal.

This abrupt change left me in an extremely stressful situation, with only a few days to find another lawyer. With the help of social workers, intervenants, friends, and another legal professional, I was able to find a new lawyer who kindly agreed to take over my case. However, she had to review the entire file from the beginning, resulting in significant additional costs that could have been avoided if my original lawyer had continued working on the case.

The way Devichy handled my file was unprofessional and lacked empathy, especially considering the sensitive and urgent nature of my situation. Their decisions caused unnecessary stress, financial strain, and emotional distress during an already challenging time.

I cannot recommend Devichy Law Firm, especially for cases involving vulnerable clients or time-sensitive matters.

Je laisse rarement des avis négatifs, mais je ressens le besoin de partager mon expérience, car elle concernait directement le bien-être de mon bébé de 6 mois. Après avoir contacté le service client et les autorités supérieures du cabinet Devichy, sans recevoir de réponse appropriée, je me sens obligée d’informer les autres de ce qui s’est passé.

Au cours de négociations cruciales avec l’autre partie, et seulement quelques jours avant une audience prévue au tribunal, mon avocate m’a informée qu’elle partait en vacances. Elle a insisté sur le fait que je devais travailler avec un avocat bilingue, bien que j’aie précisé que je parle et comprende le français. J’ai même proposé d’utiliser un interprète pour éviter un changement d’avocat, mais ma suggestion a été ignorée.

Mon dossier a alors été transféré à un autre avocat, moins expérimenté, mais avec un taux horaire plus élevé, ce que j’ai trouvé totalement déraisonnable. Lorsque j’ai exprimé mes préoccupations au service client, j’ai été choquée d’entendre la coordonnatrice prétendre à tort que j’avais demandé ce changement d’avocat, ce qui est complètement faux.

J’ai également proposé de payer le même tarif horaire que celui que je payais pour l’avocat plus expérimenté, mais ils ont refusé ma proposition.

Ce changement brutal m’a laissée dans une situation extrêmement stressante, avec seulement quelques jours pour trouver un autre avocat. Grâce au soutien de travailleuses sociales, d’intervenants, d’amis et d’un autre professionnel juridique, j’ai pu trouver une avocate qui a accepté de reprendre mon dossier. Cependant, elle a dû revoir tout le dossier depuis le début, ce qui a entraîné des frais supplémentaires importants qui auraient pu être évités si mon avocate initiale avait poursuivi son travail.

La gestion de mon dossier par le cabinet Devichy a été non professionnelle et manquait d’empathie, surtout compte tenu de la nature sensible et urgente de ma situation. Leurs décisions ont provoqué un stress inutile, des charges financières supplémentaires et un profond désarroi émotionnel dans un moment déjà difficile.

Je ne peux pas recommander le cabinet Devichy, particulièrement pour des dossiers impliquant des clients vulnérables ou des situations urgentes.
