Good device but bad quality control and horrible support

Bought the XPS 15 in 2020 and I still have the wobbly trackpad problem. Until now (1 Year later) Dell sadly was unable to fix the problem.

I do like the device in general. The power, duration, display brightness and portability is what I was looking for. I decided for this device over another model from another manufacturer, after spending many hours on research.

Sadly the quality control should be improved. The speakers have a buzzing sound (even after a lot of adjustments) and one key is not working properly. But this is something I can ignore.

The wobbly trackpad on the other hand is something that is really driving you nuts for a portable device you do not want to plug in a mouse every time you are working with a laptop.

I have reported that problem on the 27/11/2020 and had two technicians on-site, sadly with a replacement "ASSY plamrest with fingerprint" with the same manufacturing problem. So we decided not to change it.

DELL admited to the wobbly trackpad issue offically and stated "the problem will be solved for any device shipped in June 2020 and beyond", sadly the warehouses for the replacement parts are still full of the faulty trackpads. Therefore the best advice from the on-site technician (I must admit that both have been very competent, so I trusted their advice) was to wait as long as possible so the new parts arrive in the warehouse. Sadly they do not have an influence in what part they are getting send.

Months later I contacted the DELL support again. After spending countless hours in an AI-Loop that asks me to update my software drivers for a hardware based problem, I got through and DELLs solution was to have my laptop sent in (instead of an on-site visit). After a while I managed to schedule the delivery, notified DELL but after 2 weeks the laptop still didn't get picked up. I asked again what happend, got another on-site appointment, which got cancelled without notice after a couple of days. Contacted DELL support again, they scheduled another on-site appointment. It got cancelled without any notice after 2 weeks.

By now my premium support ran out, all the problem still exist and the time I spent trying to solve this issue would have been better spent working to buy another device.

dell premium support repair odyssey

Issue: Dell XPS8940 black screen after only months of usage. Luckily the unit came with Dell premium support.
Currently in a repair odyssey, and it goes on for weeks. The unit is still not functioning 100%. Beside that the XPS 8940 has obvious cooling flaws, which might have caused the issue in the first place. Even after a repair this problems are not going to be resolved. It's not a bug, its a feature! :)

Dell XPS 17 zeigt erhebliche Mängel - Dell XPS 17 shows considerable flaws

Hier meine bisherigen Erfahrungen mit dem Dell XPS 17 9700 (Kauf 2021; Version mit i9 und 64MB Ram):
Die Qualität der Webcam entspricht nicht den heutigen Standards für professionelle Videokonferenzen. Im Dell XPS 17 wurde offenbar eine sehr billige Webcam verbaut. Der Kundenservice war nicht in der Lage, eine Lösung anzubieten. (Treiber sind gecheckt)
Bei der Wiedergabe von Filmen (Maxdome, Netflix) ruckelt das Bild auch dann, wenn der Stream vorgepuffert ist.
Bereits wenige Tage nach dem Kauf kam die Meldung: "no harddrive found". Der Rechner konnte mit Hilfe des Kundenservice wieder gestartet werden.
Es kommt zu Treiberproblemen, die mit der Update-Software von Dell zusammenhängen.

Here are my experiences with the Dell XPS 17 9700 so far (purchase in 2021; version with i9 and 64MB Ram):
The quality of the webcam does not meet today's standards for professional video conferencing. A very cheap webcam was apparently installed in the Dell XPS 17. The customer service was not able to offer a solution. (Drivers have been checked)
When playing movies (Maxdome, Netflix), the picture jerks even when the stream is pre-buffered.
Already a few days after the purchase, the message: "no harddrive found" came up. The computer could be restarted with the help of customer service.
There are driver problems that are related to Dell's update software.

Average Service

The website is quite exquisite and easy to navigate. My product came rather no so on time and after a while of usage I think for that prices and the prices they claim is rather so much. I also have a problem with the sound system. I used to use an inspiron laptop and I was convinced that the sounds of dell laptop are good. But recent models have low sound quality on them. The top screen feature is sleek and the speed is undoubtedly super. But I rather stick on the average for this rating

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!

I should have read this reviees before ordering! First of all, they do not give you the option to talk to someone directly in english, you have to be lucky that the persons who answers is able to speak english.

I ordered a laptop on the online german shop of dell, they canceled my order because I live in a student residence and they said "they are not able to deliver an order in these residences but only in private residences", which by the way I find absolutely stupid!!! Anyway, it has been 14 days and they have not released the amount in my credit card... I have called many times and they either have waiting for more than 30 minutes or when waiting for them to find my order they just hung up the phone!!! So 14 days I have not been able to use my credit card because of this. Awful service! DO NOT BUY ONLINE WITH DELL!

Abysmal customer support

After waiting to receive my Alienware PC for a month I contacted Dell customer support with a trivial request. To either delay or change the delivery address of my order. The computer at this point was not shipped nor even assembled yet. I was told that neither is possible and my only 'option' is to contact the carrier company and change the delivery address with them after the product is shipped, which in my opinion is not an 'option' but Dell's way of telling me that they refuse to do anything and washing their hands off any responsibility. The support agent was more than eager to cancel my order and didn't do anything to try and keep me as a customer. I still can't wrap my head around how something as simple as changing the delivery address of an order proved to be a deal-breaking problem. I would also like to mention that my initial attempt to contact customer support over email was unsuccessful and I didn't receive any answer for 3 days. I only managed to get in contact with them after many attempts on the phone.

Dell Germany the worse

The thing is that I placed an order a week ago. Order placed and I paid by transfer. I kept checking my status and it was still not approved for a week. Eventually, I called and waited for 20 minutes for someone to pick and when I got connected. All they had to say was that: "Sorry sir, we do not have inventory available to deliver". Then why would you accept my order and payment. Worse is the customer support does not even know that I paid it already. If I did not call them, they would never know I have an order and payment done already. Its Dell Germany and its worse!
Now waiting for my refund and hope I get it soon!

Terrible experience,they had a issue with the Blue screen error ,for so long time ,and they still didn't fix that particular problem,in short ,laptop is going to sleep whit the lid closed,and he never won't wake up ,after that you have to reeboot system.
And you going to ask me ,how I get done that ,from Dell side?
and there is ridiculous ,was answer like that
Base on the response of the system for all troubleshooting steps done, The hardware component still works fine and the issue possible related to a software, If you will perform operating installation we can identify if the hardware is faulty.
Why exactly should I have to go through the effort of doing this for a laptop I spent thousands of pounds for?
Not buying Dell anymore,never !!!!

Be aware that when ordering online, Dell in Switzerland does not accept any returns. The laptops are shipped from China and its impossible to send anything back.

I bought a Dell XPS 13 exactly a year…

I bought a Dell XPS 13 exactly a year ago - I know this because I got about a thousand emails to remind me my warranty expired - when the power led started blinking orange. Turns out the battery (at 79% health) is broken and needs replacement.
I'm only using the laptop in my spare time and am very disappointed with only how short the battery lasted. This is unacceptable for a 1500+ euro laptop.

Oh and on Dell.com I cannot even find the spare part I need.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

Ordered from them, they could not ship the product they date they said. After waiting for 2 days, I phoned their customer service and wanted to cancel. They said being in Switzerland and as a company purchase, I had no rights. Almost sounded like she was being racist.

My business will never use dell again and I just informed my office in Asia not to purchases from dell. And I would never recommend them, and would discourage anyone from using them.

Dell is the company to keep

I have been using Dell computers for over 10 years. Never ever Dell let me down. Their product is very reliable and works many years. The only time I lost a dell laptop was when I spilled a full cup of coffee on the keyboard. Oh well. It is so much better and reliable than HP. I recommend Dell to everybody what is looking for a reliable inexpensive computer.
