Kudos to the CTV News Team Ottawa

Kudos to the CTV News Team Ottawa. It is pretty true that the majority of our news is pretty depressing. Having said that I would like to salute the News team at CTV Ottawa for the work that they do in bringing us the news. On a daily basis my wife Judy and I enjoy tuning in to the newscasts. It is pretty obvious that the members of the news Team really like each other and have bought into the idea of being on a team and appreciate the positive feeling that comes from that. As lead news anchor Patricia Boal sets the tone for the newscasts. Even if the news is grim you can count on Patricia and her crew to shed some positive light on some aspect of life that makes our viewing a little bit more of a pleasant experience. A friend of ours daughter was home from Queen’s University and as she watched CTV News with her parents she remarked that the experience of watching the news with them made her really feel like she was home. My hat goes off to Patricia Boal, Stephen Keyes, Jackie Perez, Rachel Aiello, Dave Charbonneau, Dylan Dyson, Annie Bergeron Oliver, Dave Charbonneau, Dylan Dyson, Tyler Fleming, Katie Griffin, Kimberly Fowler, Kim Johnson, Leah Laroque, Austin Lee, Josh Morano, Nathalie Van Roy, Camille Wilson, and Katie Wilson. Congratulations to CTV for providing these young journalists the chance to practice their craft. Thanks to the CTV News team from Judy and Robert Erwin

CTV is not government funded!

Crazy how so many reviewers think CTV is government funded and assume that’s why there may be negative reporting about conservatives and:or republicans. Good grief.
I came here to ask who what why how did anyone hire Ben Mulroney for the West Block??? What a grinning self absorbed silly host.

This news outlet failed spectacularly…

This news outlet failed spectacularly in its duty to inform the public and investigate issues of serious public concern. I came forward about one of the most traumatic experiences of my life, involving deeply invasive police surveillance, disclosure of intensely personal information, and violations of my privacy that have left permanent scars. The Toronto Police Service (TPS) monitored my movements in public, accessed my private online accounts, intercepted personal communications, and even collected intimate information from my social media and dating apps. Sensitive and injurious personal details—including my private sexual activity, my social interactions, and private thoughts—were exposed to family members without consent. This wasn’t a minor administrative error; it was targeted, systematic, and life-altering surveillance that should have triggered serious accountability.

Despite the severity of these violations, the news outlet chose not to cover my tip. By ignoring this story, the outlet failed to uphold the most fundamental principles of journalism: exposing abuses of power, informing the public about threats to privacy and civil liberties, and holding institutions accountable. Police surveillance is inherently a matter of public interest—most people have no idea they may be under constant monitoring, and the state’s power to observe, record, and disclose private information is something every citizen should be aware of. The public cannot consent to or challenge surveillance they don’t know exists.

I also raised concerns about systemic failures within the TPS: weak disciplinary standards, a culture of dismissing serious complaints while rewarding misconduct, and oversight mechanisms that routinely deny accountability in the name of bureaucracy. The practices I reported are not isolated incidents—they reflect a systemic problem that directly undermines fairness, justice, and public trust. Yet the outlet dismissed the story, missing an opportunity to investigate an institution whose actions have profound consequences for ordinary citizens.

Choosing not to report on this tip was not neutral or cautious—it was a failure. Journalism exists to illuminate hidden abuses, challenge powerful institutions, and tell the stories that matter, even when they are complex or uncomfortable. By refusing to engage, the outlet ignored its responsibility to the public and left critical questions about state surveillance, privacy, and accountability unanswered. Just because online reviews have been disabled for police doesn’t mean the public needs to be uninformed about the lives ruined by law enforcement.

By declining to cover this story, the outlet failed not only me, but its audience. Journalism is not meant to be comfortable or convenient. It exists to expose hidden systems of power, to investigate state surveillance, and to tell stories that deeply affect people’s lives—even when those stories are complex, lengthy, or challenging to summarize.

Police surveillance does not stop being newsworthy because the public is unaware of it. In fact, that is precisely why it must be reported on. Choosing silence in the face of detailed allegations about invasive policing practices is not neutrality—it is abdication.

What police disclosed involved targeted police surveillance and the disclosure of intensely personal information without meaningful oversight or accountability. In my case, police monitoring extended into everyday life: movements in public spaces, activity on public transit, and digital communications. Officers had access to private online accounts, internet history, and personal communications. Observations were documented and shared. This was not abstract policy—it was real, invasive monitoring of a real person’s life, carried out over time, with lasting consequences.

In November of 2016, the Toronto Police released my criminal history (documented/undocumented), moral wrongdoings, observations made by undercover officers, my “mental issues”, and observations made on Facebook/Grindr. My uncle was the recipient of this information. My moral wrongdoings that were released include: I went to a gay club, I was hanging out at the mall, I spent time in public washrooms, I talked about sex with people on Grindr, I went to a gay sex club — among other things. They were able to see what I was doing on my phone in real time and had access to my Facebook and Grindr accounts. They pulled my internet history and listened to my phone calls. the response I received felt dismissive, shallow, and completely disconnected from the real harm I now live with every single day.

I find it astonishing that some of the CTV news readers take such little pride in their appearance. I just saw Jessie Thomas on the news (and I like Jessie), but come on Man, at least wear a tie and have a shave, you look like a bum.

Horrible Experience!

CTV news team have terrible customer service skills. I reported a story on CTV news and did a video interviewer. The CTV producer Ms Farah Chandani told me that they will proceed with my story. After the interview they did not respond to my emails for many months. After 7 months they contacted me and told me that they will not be proceeding with my story. They told me to report my story to another news station. They are very unprofessional, unhelpful and not customer friendly. If you have a story to report, I highly recommend you not to waste your time and energy by contacting CTV news. From my experience, the workers overthere are lazy and unhelpful people.
