Infromed me about blocking of my account without any explanations.
My husband and I wanted to open a joint account. The offer with comdirect was good so we decided to try. It's been 2 months and until today nothing has progressed.
We did our identity verification at a post office, my husband's was totally fine (German ID), mine failed (EU passport), for which I received an e-mail without any explanation. We called, found out there was some mixup with my middle name and followed the customer assistant's instructions to send an e-mail confirming my full name. After that there was around a month of complete silence, so we called again and heard the verification failed and I need to do it again (...). Quite a few days later they sent an e-mail to my husband (not to me!) that I can suddenly do it via video in the app which was not an option for me before. I did it, I have to say it went quite smooth, the assistant on the call said I would receive an e-mail with a confirmation right after the chat. It has been a week since that, I received nothing and 2 months after applying for the account it seems the process to create it still hasn't even started.
Today I wanted to check if it is normal for them to take this long and came across all the negative feedback here. We ran out of patience and tried to cancel today (my husband called and we are supposed to send an e-mail...), I hope at least this goes faster.
In general it seems to be an absolute joke. It takes ages, at no point of the process you actually know what happens, what went wrong and how to fix it, every customer service person says something different. If you're thinking of setting up an account there, I really wouldn't.

For opening a new account and because of an error on THEIR side I didnt get any email/post for the access number or the phototan activation.
After 6 email loops and sending the required documents 2 times online and 2 times per post I am waiting since 3 weeks for being able to access my account....
I was transferred to Dresdner Band and then to comdirect after being a customer at Advance Bank that went out of business. For many years I used the Visa Card of Comdirect for business trips all around the world without any problems. As a matter of fact there have been a few instances where companies deducted payments, which I never authorized but got the money back without too much hassle. This changed when I booked a rental car in Mexico. The rental car company reserved a deposit for the car: After returning the car the rental company asked to hand over the card to return the deposit. However apparently they took the deposit and charged the Visa Card for a sightseeing trip, which I never authorized nor participated. After noticing this charge on my credit card account I complained and requested this unauthorized charge to be reversed. This was refused saying that the charge was authorized by me by handing in the card with the chip. I wonder how I could have avoided that. No help whatsoever was provided. It took half a year to get a final refusal.

Like the majority of the reviewers, the worst company I have ever dealt with. When moved to Germany for 6 months, I was forced to open an account to be formally registered and of course I chose the cheapest option. Biiiig mistake! I couldn't speak German so they quickly knew how to find me someone in English. When I wanted to close it down, nobody knew English anymore. Asked them 2 times to close my account including a Email in German and all they do is threatening me with new fees!!!! The account is still.open and they are still asking me to pay.
Been with them for years and always satisfied but in recent months/years they changed everything to the worse: Now they'll find a reason to charge you for everything, an account that used to be free is now 4.90 if for no other reason than for you letting them keep your money. VISA card used to be free, 1.90 now, ask them to get you a print/pdf of a transaction as proof of transaction, they'll charge 14.90...I could go on and on....customer service used to be timely and competent, sucks now, the app sucks...save yourself the trouble!
The worst bank hands down! Their narrow-minded customer service is absolutely atrocious! Please don't go down that road and save your self the pointless arguments. They don't care about customer service.

Comdirect is one of the worst company I ever experienced on this planet. Nothing is working smooth, no telephone service and outsourced to Russia service company. I even cannot close my account because the login is not working for unknown reasons and nobody is picking up at Comdirect. The only reason could be that they are bankrupt. They should think about it, why they deserved it ...
The bank keeps changing the fees and services. Very intransparent communication. Whenever I have a problem, I'm waiting on the phone forever. Finally closed my bank account.

BTW, your customer service absolutely sucks Mr. S. G-B? In case you haven't heard of it in your Business School companies normally have a role called account manager, this person ensures that you don't treat your customers like some robots.
Horrible Bank. Tried to open a bank account. Different people in the service Center gave different instructions on the phone and by email about the process. Demanded to do postident several times and in the end declined the opening of the bank account saying they won’t tell the reason why. Time wasted. Much better alternatives out there. Stay away!
Unfortunately, my account was canceled without my knowledge, without informing me where my money which was still on the account remained. In my opinion, a fraudulent bank. Finger away otherwise your money is also gone very quickly!
If I could give 0, I would. I am currently overseas, when my tan app stopped working, I called the customer service and they couldn't do anything but send out a physical letter with a tan. Once this finally made it overseas weeks later, I then updated the app. Now this takes 2 business days and I could still not make any transactions. I called again and they couldn't do anything about it. I even asked to be connected to a supervisor and got told, that they are unable to connect me with one over their phone system. Stuck overseas without an option to buy flights and nobody is responsible or able to help. Don't bank here!
Disgraceful non assistance abroad on 2 occasions in an emergency with no offer of assistance to access funds after cards were locked. The lady on the phone and indeed every time I have called, there is zero undestanding for the frustration one feels when you are abroad and cannot access your own account! You are left hanging on the phone or are just cut off by overly sensitive call centre agents if you express the slightest exasperation. They talk down to you with such an incredible arrogance as if you were entirely new to online banking. I am so angry with them right now. I will be changing my bank.
I opened an account since it said I can invest as US citizen living in Germany. After I go through all the normal hoops and account is open, I buy ETFs. Three weeks later I get a letter, I need to either sell the ETFs or transfer to another account. This was a long term investment in critical times. If I sell, I loose. They knew when I opened the account. Scandalous....
