Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the product to be incomplete and inaccurate, leading to overpaying for vehicles or discovering undisclosed damage and issues after purchase. People frequently mentioned that the service was below par and not worth the cost, with reports often lacking crucial details or containing erroneous information. The pricing for reports was also a significant point of dissatisfaction, with many finding it too expensive for the limited and often unreliable information provided. Some customers also experienced issues with the website, describing it as difficult to navigate and prone to losing search information. The overall value for money was consistently rated as poor, with many feeling that the reports offered little more than what could be found for free elsewhere.

No phone number to contact anyone

No phone number to contact anyone. As of now I have been waiting 7 days for someone to get back to me regarding an obvious mistake on the mileage of my vehicle. A mistake was made at the dealer and it now looks like my truck drive 40,000 miles in 2 days. An obvious typo. Carfax is showing it as an odometer rollback. Issue is holding up sale of my truck. Only thing I get back from carfax is computer generated email saying they will get back to me soon.

They are really correct

They are really correct. All vin checkers want you to pay and there might not be any records and you just waste money. Car fax tell you accurately if they have the info or not and then you can pay. I found full history of my 2007 Honda Civic which came from Spain. Real proffesionals not scammers like others.

I have brand new tires

I have brand new tires, carfax says I'm overdue on rotation. If I could give zero stars , I would. They want you to fill out some BS lengthy firm to fix their mess. I know several other people with similar issue with this company. Do not believe their reports!

This place needs to be shut down

This place needs to be shut down. 2013 f150 has a false report on it I know I still own it. They can only base there reports on hear say from accident reports or insurance repair quotes or search the internet for reports. Mine showed whole left side, possible frame or rear end damage. Idiots got clipped in a parking lot. Due to truck being NEW in 2013 and truck having a spray in bed liner. The dealership that did repairs had to order a color matching new bed. The way these idiots have it listed it is like whole back end was totaled!!!! Nope it was a brand new truck so ford decided to just replace the whole bed as no readily available parts and bed liner so no panel repairs. Place is a joke and ruined the vaule of our truck.

Horrible service

Horrible service. I needed a report on a vehicle that I was buying and so on their website, I entered the serial number and then it went to payment page. I paid for the service. I then received an email which I thought would have my report, no, it was a link to get it. The link took me to their website and it asked for the serial number, I entered it and then it would not allow me to go any further. It took my payment on the serial number that I provided but now it would not proceed without a 17 digit serial number. The vehicle is an older 1955 truck with a short serial number, it took the payment when I first entered that serial number but now would not allow me to go further. I tried calling their useless 1-866 phone number several times and every time it gives a response to contact them electronically and hangs up. You cannot get a person to talk to, no matter what. So after doing the email response that their link provided, I let them know that I needed the carfax immediately as I had to fork out the payment on the truck the next day. I received an auto response, again responding to it , I was given a case number to which they cannot bother to reply to when sent. Again when someone is buying an automobile, they need that report right away. Two days later and yes I tried that 1-866 number again, maybe the last 5 times were a fluke and they were busy with complaints, no same result. Now I paid for this truck without the Carfax. They don’t bother to respond from an actual person, just the automated response to which they either don’t bother to follow up on or take their sweet time doing so. I am not happy with their service.
I will give them credit, they did refund my money in a timely manner.

Carfax Buyback Program is bogus

Carfax is absolutely garbage. This is the 2nd report in 2 month where I find out something major about a car and they do not respond and the resolution managers are incompetent taking 2 weeks to reply only to tell me to complete the form I had to complete in the beginning.
The car I bought turned out to be salvaged that was reported 2 years prior after carfax having clean title . They will not respond much less honor the buyback gurantee.

The valuation may not reflect the price…

The valuation may not reflect the price and value for personal financing purposes. Whether or not the vehicle price is fair, good, or great remains up to the seller and the buyer and is not necessarily a fact.
example: 2010 Jaguar selling at 14, 999 The Carfax value states -2000 under their valuation, but JD Powers lists the vehicle valuation at 6, 999 (the price listed in Carfax is $8000 over the actual valuation)

Anonymous report unverifiable (wrongful report of damage))

Went to trade in my car and the carfax provided by the dealership stated an anonymous report that the car had "minor damage." It included general vehicle outline with the front area shaded. This vehicle was leased and purchased with only 8k miles on it. Car has never had damage and CARFAX refuses to correct this error.

In November

In November, I purchased a GMC Sierra based on a clean Carfax report, which indicated that the vehicle had never been in an accident. However, when my wife recently tried to sell the car, a potential buyer obtained a report from another source, revealing that the vehicle had indeed been involved in an accident. This discrepancy led to a terrible experience with Carfax, and we have lost trust in their services. We will no longer rely on Carfax reports.

Incorrect reporting

Incorrect reporting. Went to sell car to dealership and has a mileage inconsistency remark. States an Incorrect mileage when registration renewal. There is no mileage reporting when renewing(no inspection or mileage requests). Now I'm held hostage and can't sell my vehicle because they won't even get back when filing a claim. This is ridiculous as they weren't asked for services or involved and now cause financial harm to me because their company is worthless and zero customer service.

Hide behind old advertising and disclaimers

They're not willing to stand by their product. I paid for the CarFax because I wanted to know that my transaction would be easy - the car was titled in a different state (and had been for a long time and they didn't have that information) - I asked for a refund and instead got a run around, ugh.

Don’t Trust CARFAX or Read Terms and Conditions

Don’t rely on CARFAX reports. I purchased a vehicle based on a CARFAX report that stated "No accidents or damage reported." The vehicle had been in an accident that was reported to consumer agencies and insurance companies. I submitted supporting documents, including an insurance claim and consumer reports, proving the accident details. CARFAX received my case (#16761112) on August 22, 2024. However, their response was, "CARFAX does not offer a guarantee for unreported accidents or other problems that do not result in a title brand." This is misleading, as the accident was reported elsewhere. CARFAX refuses to take responsibility for the inaccuracy and simply refers to their Terms and Conditions when things go wrong. Consumers should be cautious—CARFAX reports can omit critical information, and their guarantee offers no protection. You can find title brand issues from your local department of motor vehicles for free.

I have reached out to them multiple…

I have reached out to them multiple times about my title being incorrect on their system. Over months of waiting with no response. I need to sell my car but their incorrect report is ruining my value of the car over thousands of dollars. I need someone to fix this now. I can not wait any longer. This is affecting my ability to feed my children and sell my car for its true value. They closed one ticket where I responded every day asking for help and told me to wait for assistance.

The company has the worst customer…

The company has the worst customer service I've ever encountered. In my case they have incorrectly listed my vehicle as having a "Branded title". I provided them with a clear title disproving this. I cannot sell or trade my car because of this. 2 weeks and still nothing. You can't call them. You can't email them and they don't care.
They need over site. Maybe a class action lawsuit?
