Crappiest company I have ever been…

Crappiest company I have ever been forced to work with. Since they merge with Discover my life has been complicated miserably:
-I cannot see my statements on line, we had two credit cards that from Discover for 30 years, and now we encounter this ridiculous problem.
-I had automatic payments for 30 years that had been denied and I had to call Capital one so they can correct the issue.
-Nothing is solved in one call. The employees that answer the phone are so tired of hearing complaints that you start feeling sorry for their frustration.
-Each call to this company for any stupid simpler issue takes a long time and 80 % of the time to have to talk to multiple people or call.
To make it short: it took me three hours, 5 calls, 5 different people, a lot of aggravation in order for me to be able to see 2 statements.
If they had wanted to make the change from Discover to Capital One in a sloppier way they could have not done it... they are too sloppy.

I got my Capital One Venture Card to use for international travel

I got my Capital One Venture Card to use for traveling. And I loved it. The rewards were a big plus, as well as, the international fees. I might not have written positive reviews but I verbally recommended them to anyone who would listen. I used it constantly and exclusively.
I planned a long trip, almost four months long, and of coarse my Venture Card was the chosen one - was was going to use it everywhere to avoid international fees and hoped to buy my flight back with the rewards. I had my phone app, my eSIM ready and the world was good.
Unfortunately, my card was restricted 2 weeks into my trip. I attempted to reach out via the app - daily, multiple times with the idiotic AI chat bot. Then I tried to email. Luckily I'd brought another credit card with me, (and I later discovered Revolut), but I cannot tell you the amount of international fees I acquired, let alone the thirty thousand dollars of rewards that were missed and nearly 4 months of inability to use the card (even when I attempted reactivate the card they needed 10 days to review the information). I also paid the annual fee of $95 dollars in January which means I lost 4 months out of 12 where I was unable to use the card.
I couldn't speak to a real human to un-restrict the card, I couldn't confirm my purchase via the app, I couldn't email, - the ONLY THING YOU CAN DO TO HAVE YOUR CARD WORK AGAIN INTERNATIONALLY IS TO CALL. The only way that's free is via landline. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I tried to speak with them about my experience and although there was no wait for the customer service they didn't offer any sort of reimbursement - they just couldn't. They couldn't give me any points, they couldn't waive the annual fee - nothing. After I hung up, I tried one more time and someone said they could give me $50. Sorry, not sorry, your apologies do not make me feel better about this whole situation. I know I am only one person, but they lost a customer.
DO NOT RELY on this card for international travel - despite it being advertised for the specific purpose.

Venture card for travel, can’t use it when you travel

Capital One Venture card for 2 years. Has another Capital One Card for 7 years. And another one with BJ’s that I used for maybe a years
The Venture card was great. I got it especially for travel and travel perks. Continent while I travel though, they lock the card!!! I’m over seas, using an eSIM with a different phone number. It was explained up front as I told them do not send me text messages to my American phone asking to confirm purchase. And of course that’s what they did and froze the card. I was 11 time zones away. I’ve had this happen with other cards and it’s a very serious problem when it happens. It can take your whole day away and all the stress involved. Not to mention, the time of it, just about to go have a dental procedure done. Can’t pay, can’t have the work done. And you can’t just simply call collect like they claim. It’s another country, you’re suing a different SIM card or eSIM, and now you have to go find that carrier to add calling minutes to call these aholes and it costs you more money and time trying to fix the stupid problem. I’ve been locked out of my own cards now every time I leave the country. I can’t prepare any better with all the travel dates and locations. They locked my card once while in the US because “I kept making payments in it and it sent up a red flag.” But this most recent one, in Thailand, I get the black rep with the attitude problems, not actually all that compassionate about the situation. She unlocked the card but she could care less the damage that was done and the fear of survival that takes place, or the fact that the appoent that was made some time ago is now lost, and that was the point of travelling there to begin with. I was not satisfied with simply knocking the card. She was in the fraud dept but never was willing to actually help or connect me to customer service. She just sat there in silence and said nothing. She was fine with just unlocking the card. Her end was done. Didn’t care about my timer concerns. Oh I got real mas, alright. As I should. They should be in WhatsAp. I shouldn’t have to go through this BA trying to call them. They should have live chat. But my account was locked too!!!! I couldn’t sign in. And they always want to send a code to my American phone in which I told them not to do that because again, if I use that number then my American phone carrier will charge me for a whole month. Well, three weeks later, they close my account. Why? After having to go through this again but now in another country ever further away, eventually found out it was because of “how I treated their employee.” Really?!!!!! They act like you work for them. They say things like, “be more professional.” As if they are my low IQ incompetent corporate manager. All they did was piss me off more!!!! Come to find, in their clause, customers use curse words or threats, they’ll cancel your account. They “protect their staff.” So, my question is, how often this must happen that they have to include it in their clauses? And it’s obvious, just like the typical low IQ incompetent corporate managers, they don’t take accountability! So here I am in Indonesia and taking my wife to an Urgent Care, only to find that my care yet again does not work all because of their hurt feelings. So, they get personal with you is what that is. Mastercard Locke Amy card in Kyiv, Ukraine right when air raid sirens were going off and the metros stopped. We go t use an uber only ti find the cars was suddenly locked. So I have no patience for this nonsense. Fraud my ass!!!! The only person they are protecting the card from has been me!!! Capital One ultimately has garbage customer service. No way should anyone have to get this upset. This is my survival! And they make it all about themselves. Now I’m about stranded. And no thanks to that typical black female representative sh*t attitude, power trip, “don’t wanna help you.” They’re all about the “protected class status” ones. I had alot of good experices with their reps in the past but do not lock my card when I’m travelling! That very serious!!!! Forntje record, my credit score is good, never any late payments, I always used the card and paid it right away. But they will leave you stranded. The card is for travel and you can’t even use it while travelling because of all the algorithms.

20 years loyal, 5 cards canceled today customer service in the Philippines what a Shit Show

★☆☆☆☆ 20-year customer, canceling all five cards

After 20 years with Capital One, I'm closing all five of my cards, including the two Discover cards they took over. Their offshore call center in the Philippines is a mess. Three agents gave me three different answers, including whether a US call center even exists. They were rude, untrained, and didn't care about losing a long-time customer. I've had better service at a McDonald's drive-thru.

I've dealt with other companies' call centers in the Philippines, and those agents were well trained, kind, and respectful. This was unlike anything I've experienced. I felt like I was talking to people on a different planet.

What upsets me most is that there are over 4,000 reviews averaging 1.2 stars, with multiple new one-star reviews every day since the Discover takeover. I'm clearly not the only one, yet corporate doesn't seem to care. If they did, they'd be paying attention to attrition rates and fixing their customer service.

After being a loyal customer for many…

After being a loyal customer for many years with multiple Capital One accounts, the first time I have a disputed charge that was not valid that was not authorized where I got literally ripped off by the merchant this company did not stand behind me, and now I will not spend another penny with them. I am so pissed off about this that I am willing to go ahead and tell them to take a hike because I have other creditors and other accounts and if this is how they treat their customer, I don’t want their products because they do not stand up for their customers and that is shameful

They are unable to verify their own card on Apple Pay.

I am trying to set up my Capital One card on my Apple Pay wallet, but Capital One App takes me to my business account, not my personal account, so they can't be verified, and then gives an error message. I spent an hour with their online support, and that didn't help at all. They claim they can't control their own computers to set the verification of their own cards. What's wrong with this company?

WARNING: Capital One Arbitrarily Closes Accounts with Zero Explanation

🚨 WARNING: Capital One Arbitrarily Closes Accounts with Zero Explanation 🚨

Do not trust Capital One with your financial life. They are a deeply flawed financial institution that relies entirely on broken, automated risk algorithms instead of human logic, and their customer service is a total brick wall.

I had a flawless history with Capital One. In fact, their internal metrics deemed my profile so strong that they proactively granted me a massive credit limit increase from $10,000 to $15,000. My new limit was fully processed and reported to the credit bureaus.

Then, just three weeks later, they abruptly and permanently closed my account citing vague, boilerplate "suspicious activity."The sheer incompetence of this institution is staggering. How does a bank evaluate a customer, determine they are trustworthy enough for an expanded five-figure credit line, and then turn around 21 days later to flag them as a risk? It makes absolutely no sense. To make matters worse, I pulled my own credit reports and ChexSystems files—my record is pristine, and I have over 16 other open, perfectly maintained accounts with major banks. There is zero evidence of fraud or risk on my end; this was entirely a false positive generated by Capital One’s broken automated systems.

When you try to resolve this, you are met with zero transparency. Front-line customer service reps read from rigid scripts and refuse to let you speak to a senior analyst or an underwriter. They destroy your credit utilization, slash your available credit, and tank your scores overnight, then hide behind generic template letters to avoid giving a legal or logical explanation.

Capital One treats loyal consumers like numbers on a spreadsheet and punishes you for their own internal errors. If you want a banking partner that values transparency and employs actual humans to make decisions, look elsewhere. Avoid Capital One at all costs.

Do NOT use any Capital One products…

Do NOT use any Capital One products especially their credit cards! You will be told varying information on charges depending on who you speak with. We paid off over $3000 in charges but we're then told we had a $96 interest payment because it wasn't paid off before the due date (it was). We were then told that would be all that was due to bring the balance to $0. We were told that there is no interest charged on interest. That was a Sunday after requesting a review of the charge (all of this was supposedly captured on a recorded line)On Monday, we called to pay off the $96 balance and was THEN TOLD the payoff amount was $146!! to pay off the account. This was today, September 14th. So I asked "are you saying there IS interest charged on interest after we were told you don't charge interest on interest?" And was told, that whoever informed us of that was "incorrect". But the kicker was that they could only take a payment of $106.00 direct from our checking account and to wait an additional 9 days for our new statement to come out (which accrues interest DAILY) for an accurate payoff amount!! This company is a sham and we will NEVER utilize ANY of their services again. Nor would we ever recommend anyone else to do so either. Over 40+ years of doing business with them means NOTHING to this company! They LIE CONSTANTLY.

Capital one is the worst company in…

Capital one is the worst company in this world. I struggle through these years to pay this car off but I did pay it off. I never missed the payment, but I have two credit cards with these people. The first time I go over the limit they put it on my credit within 24 hours, but when I paid this car, do you think these people put up there showing that I paid my car off but they have my score drop for three and four dollars do not in the name of Jesus deal with these people they are the worst company I ever dealt with and I’m so glad that my car is paid off and I thank God for that but think twice before you get anything with Capital one because they will drop your score for dumb stuff and then I turned around and paid the overpayment that the card was over and they still put it on my credit I’m asking you all your credit is out there. Please do not deal with these people. They need to check their self and have some kind of compassion for people. I still haven’t seen up there when I paid my car off, but they can condemn me for going over the limit on my credit card card think twice before you get with these people because there is a very terrible company to deal with.

Re: Complaint - Blocked Overseas - Stranded Seniors Age 76 & 69

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are 76 and 69 years old residents of Borden, IN. After 2 years of planning for a 30-day Italy trip, Capital One blocked our Venture card ending 5014 on Day 4 in Florance, Italy with no notice.

I (Sharon)(76) am scheduled for surgery October 14. I will not be able to make this trip in the future. Capital one destroyed two years of planning in 3 days. We thought we were safe with capital one. We were not. No one should have capital one in their wallets.

We were stranded, unable to pay for lodging, and forced to return home early via Chicago (not our original destination) after only 4 days.

*Losses:*

Flight fees $117.00
Hotel Chicago (forced layover) $174.33
Food Chicago (forced layover) $119.60
Luggage damage on return flights $400.00
Backup card 3.5% fees (forced to use) $179.12
Phone lost Naples Airport $1,000.00
Phone screen damaged Chicago $1,400.00
Hotel points lost Paris 3 nights (30,000 pts) $1,000.00

*Total Documented Loss: $4,390.05*
Plus loss of 26-day vacation, 2 years planning, emotional distress.

Card was marketed as safe for international travel with no foreign fees. It failed when we needed it most.

Request: Full reimbursement of $4,390.05, investigation for UDAAP unfair practice, and all account block notes.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! I recently turned 18 and wanted to open a checking and savings account with Capital One. When I received a message saying that I needed to call to verify my identity I did so and they told me I have to appear in person at a branch or cafe. The closest location is over 7 hours away (I am a college student and do not have a car). Both trying to figure out if I could verify using a notary or another method and trying to figure out why my account was flagged resulted in a terrible experience with their customer service. The supervisors were rude, condescending, and flat out lied about being able to escalate the situation. I will NEVER recommend Capital One, especially to young adults who have limited customer service experience as they will try to manipulate you based on your lack of experience.

I’m extremely disappointed with Capital…

I’m extremely disappointed with Capital One and how my account was handled.

My credit card account was closed because of a payment issue that was not intentional on my part. I made my payment toward the balance, but the money was later returned to my bank account. From what I was told, the issue was related to the bank/payment processing and was not something I intentionally did.

As soon as I noticed that the payment had been reversed, I immediately contacted Capital One. They were able to run the payment again and take the money to cover the balance. I paid what I owed. However, even after I corrected the payment issue, Capital One still closed my account.

What makes this even more frustrating is that the account closure had a major impact on my credit. My credit score dropped approximately 31 points, from around 719, even though I didn’t have an outstanding balance after the payment was corrected.

I understand that Capital One has policies they have to follow, but I feel like this situation was handled unfairly. I contacted them as soon as I discovered the payment had been reversed, corrected the issue, and still lost my account and took a significant hit to my credit.

I worked hard to build my credit, and it’s extremely frustrating to have my score affected this much over a payment that was reversed and then immediately corrected. I expected better communication and customer service from Capital One.

This experience has definitely changed how I feel about Capital One, and I will think twice before doing business with them again.

The Capital One BJ's card.

I applied for a Capital One BJ's card online. They approved it on a 807 credit score and sent the card. I used it for less than a week before they demanded documentation proving that I made what I stated. The documentation was three weeks of payroll statements. This is a just credit card and the statements show who I work for, deductions, etc. Highly sensitive information for an unsecured credit line. I canceled the card immediately.

I’m extremely disappointed that Capital…

I’m extremely disappointed that Capital One has closed the branch that was near me, leaving us with no convenient location to go to when in-person assistance is needed. This is especially frustrating for older customers and anyone who may not be comfortable or able to handle every banking issue online.
While I understand that businesses are moving more services online, customer convenience and accessibility should not be overlooked simply to reduce costs. Not every customer has the ability, confidence, or resources to manage every situation digitally, and there are times when speaking with a real person and receiving in-person assistance is necessary.
The closest Capital One location is now a significant distance away, which creates an unnecessary burden for customers who need help. I hope Capital One will reconsider how these decisions affect its customers, particularly older customers and those who genuinely need in-person support.
Capital One should be focused not only on saving money and increasing digital services, but also on making sure its customers feel supported, valued, and accommodated when they need assistance.
