Informative experience
Initially I was interested in purchasing a replacement pair of binoculars. Bill was very helpful and he offered quite a selection for me to sample. He wasn't pushy to make a sale at all and the whole experience was very informative. I was introduced to a monocular and instantly decided it was for me. The day after I returned to see Bill and made my purchase. Thank you Bill
False advertising
False advertising. I ordered an item which was displayed in stock, to then be told it was out of stock and awaiting a resupply of a minimum of two weeks. Very bad practise and would avoid.
Selling nothing
Saw a product sold here which was out of stock everywhere else. Asked by email if they actually have it in stock and if not, when.
They adviced making order NOW to be first in line to get the item when it arrives, which would probably be like two weeks. That would mean actually paying for the product.
However, the item in question was discontinued and will never be in stock.
Pathetic business practise. Avoid
Goods not in stock
After ordering got an email saying items weren’t in stock! Seems to be a common theme with them, But did get my stuff a week later.

They take your money but don't have the item. They even ADMIT this to me, that they don't have the stock but will take payment, have no idea when the stock is arriving and GET THIS... Advise I purchase immediately to get it asap! So they take your money, have no idea when it's arriving, but strongly advise you give them your money. Laughable man in charge.
Can't fault Campkins.
Really, really pleased to have chosen Campkins.
I could probably get everything I need from an anonymous online retailer or Amazon but Campkins were nice and competitive on price and the pre-sales support I received gives me confidence that if I need support in the future, I will not be disappointed.
Proper shopping experience.
Ordered a telescope 3 weeks ago
Ordered a telescope 3 weeks ago, I get an email to say it's out of stock and should have the product in around 2 weeks. Why not have any information online to say that its out of stock? Why do I only hear about this after the money is taken from my bank? Extremely poor. I still do not have the product and after emailing a customer service member, they still have absolutely no idea when I will have my order all I get is "we shall let you know when we have information" sorry but not good enough.
Mould
The service was good, prices less so (£50 more than online price and MSRP for a low end mirrorless camera). But my main issue is that documents, strap etc all smell of mould. The camera seems OK but I would not buy expensive lenses (or anything delicate, for that matter) from this shop.
Great Shop
We went into this shop today and brought a compact camera The gentleman who served us was very helpful and knowledgeable. I certainly would recommend this shop.
They sell you items they don't have in stock, but take your money anyway!
In June 2024, I bought an eyecup for my Panasonic GX9 from Campkins. I had been in Cambridge a few months prior and, having visited the shop, decided to support them with my purchase. This was a mistake, as Campkins Cameras doesn't deserve the trade, in my view.
According to their website, the eyecup was in stock, so I purchased it. Unfortunately, this was a lie, as I received an email stating the eyecup wasn't in stock, but I would receive the next one. This didn't stop Campkins Cameras taking my money immediately though! Due to this dishonesty, I never received the eyecup in time for my holiday...in fact I never received it at all! After six weeks of waiting, I just requested a refund. Maybe I'd still be waiting to this day...
With the high street camera shop in jeopardy, Campkins Cameras needs all the goodwill it can get. With outright dishonesty like this I'll never purchase from them again, full stop.
Amazing service
Both Bill and Cameron were so patience with all my questions. They were both very attentive and ensured that I got the camera that was best suited to my needs.
Winter Photography Talk
Winter Photography Talk: Unlock the Magic of Winter Nights - this was great as they provide me a laptop so I was able to read subtitles as I am Deaf. 5 out of 5. Thanks for your talk 👍🏼
Excellent service
Would like to acknowledge for a very professional service provided by kai, at the shop in Cambridge this afternoon when I bought a camera.
A wonderful learning experience.
I have just had a one hour session with Bill at Campkins and I can honestly say I have learnt so much in that one hour. Bill was very informative and helped me with many of my camera settings etc. I will certainly seek a follow up session in the near future.

Shoddy practice
The loss of independent retailers on the high street is a real concern but if they employ trading practices like Campkins Cameras, it seems inevitable that customers will turn away. I bought a Canon G7X Mk II camera from Campkins on the 22/2/24 for £619 as a gift for my Grandaughter. They were awaiting stock & would mail the item to me once they had received a new consignment from Canon. I checked their web site on 31/7/24 & the retailer's web site was showing that they had new items available, but at a much higher price. I queried why I had not received my camera. They stated that they had received the stock from an "alternative supplier" & not directly from Canon, hence the higher price. They would not tell me who the "new" supplier was. I had to pay £81 more to obtain the camera I bought back in April. I appreciate that the cost of items can go up but I had paid for the camera with the expectation that I would receive it once new stock had arrived. Campkins are not an honourable business & this should be borne in mind before making purchases from them.
Very helpful staff
I went in to buy a card reader for a compactflash card (ie. very old, not much used any more). The only one they had in stock was £100+. I just needed a reader to download some old short videos from 20 years ago, and the very kind assistant, Cameron, did it using their in-house reader. Straight on to my usb stick.
So a big thank you to him and to the staff at Campkins.
