Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 68 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about dysfunctional customer service, frustratingly long waiting times, and unhelpful automated tools that make resolving urgent issues nearly impossible. People also highlighted unexpected account freezes, hidden charges, and slow, outdated application processes that waste countless hours of valuable time. Though some customers noted that personal banking and certain staff members provided helpful service, the overarching feedback remains critical. Reviewers pointed out that personal accounts and specific branch representatives offered much better support compared to the frustrating business banking sector. Despite these isolated bright spots, most users strongly advise avoiding the platform for business needs.

Recommended for business banking …

l've been with Natwest business for over thirty years and never had any issues with them.
They've always been helpful and the staff at branch friendly.
The only thing that's happening now is all the branches are closing, the last local one this year.
Fortunately l am able to bank online and use the Post Office to pay cheques and cash in.
But l have a lot of customers who don't bank online and they are really struggling now.

Absolutely shocking

Absolutely shocking. Closed our business bank account with no notice. For a review. We have had this account for years both our personal accounts are also with them. We owe zero money, have no debts and run our company legally and properly. I am absolutely shocked. They say we may get it back after review but either way they have just lost many customers. Absolutely shocking behaviour. Refused to explain or offer any help whatsoever. Look elsewhere for your business banking needs.

3. A full timeline of qulaifications since leaving school (nearly 40 years ago i might add!)

4. Details of all and any property i own including what deposit i paid and HOW i got the money for the house deposit

and to top it off after waiting 25 days since i applied ot ask for this, they gave me 5 days to get this lot done.

Not even deserve one star

They are not even deserve one star
They are not even deserve one star. Horrible customer service. I was scammed by someone from EU and very quickly reported Monzo asked to cover me. They just waisted time. After 35 days they messaged me to say there is nothing in receiver account to refund you. Obviously they took money out after 35 days. Its horrible customer services you can not even phone them. You need to text them and wait for a while if somebody answer with zero information to advise you.
Be aware of this bank.

Worst Business Account Set up, EVER!

Can't believe how long it's taking to set up a business account. Chased and complained several times with promises of escalating and getting it resolved. Massively impacted my new business and revenue!! Worst experience, and even more disappointing as I have banked with them for over 20 years!! Shocking!!

NatWest business reviews

After reading some of the reviews reference the NatWest business reviews we have had exactly the same experience causing us a lot of stress ant time.
We have banked with NatWest for over 25 years but now We feel NatWest are holding us to ransom and blackmailing us and making us feel like criminals as keep sending me letters if we don’t complete this in their time frame our accounts will be restricted .
Which will basically could finish off my business.
We have now spent nearly 12hrs sending various documents and phone calls only to be told over and over again we need more information .
We even said we will shut the account and find another bank to use for our business only to be told well carry on and do it as all banks will have to do this yes perhaps they will but let’s hope they treat us better.
It feels like the post office scandal the little man trying to fight the big corporate companies attitudes.
I thought it might only be us but looks like a lot of people are having the same issues with NatWest.
Fortunately I’ve have logged every phone call and the exact hours I’ve spent on this since November.
I appreciate NatWest you do this to protect us all but please make it a lot easier to complete with out threats .!!!

Worst banking experience ever

Worst banking experience ever! Withheld a payment for 5 days to my supplier until I "answered questions" they then couldn't or wouldn't inform me when they will eventually release this payment!!! I have had to find another £10k and pay from a personal account to satisfy the supplier. This mess now has to be cleared up by the accountant and I have to pay the excess charges, fines and interest until I get my money back if these people!!

DO NOT OPEN A BUSINESS ACCOUNT WITH THESE ABSOLUTE CLOWNS!! THEY ARE A ABSOLUTELY SHOCKINGLY BAD AT EVERYTHING

Nearly ruined me

After 32 year running my small Limited Company and banking with the same accounts they conducted a review because they though I looked supicious whatever that is supposed to mean ! I spent 3 months sending them everthing they asked for, passports, id, company documents etc and they lost some of it their end and so locked my accounts putting my business at risk of closure because i cant recieve or make payments Potentially a sad ending to a successful and until their interferance a viable business.

I’m very sad to find

I’m very sad to find that despite a lifetime of banking with NatWest, my attempts over the past several weeks to open a business account has defeated me. You can only speak to a human if you can afford to hold for several hours. You are then informed that information from your conversation will be shared with a case handler but are not told who your case handler is or how to contact them. The staff operating the ‘chat now’ function are of little help and advise you call the number that initially suggested you try the chat now function, thus creating a loop of uselessness. The portal staff are unnecessarily obtuse in their questioning, have poor grammar, punctuation, and communication. My business has been open more than 2 months and I am still unable to trade as I still haven’t been approved for a business account. I recommend you all look elsewhere as I’m sorry to say that the customer service (since branch closures) is shockingly poor here at NatWest and if unresolved next week, I’ll likely be taking all of my banking to another bank

Worst business banking ever

Worst business banking ever . If anyone think to open account NatWest please don’t do it . They always hold our money 24 hours for reviews . This happened to me two times and I struggled to make my regular payments and returned my Direct debits . I lost my reputation because of this bank . Customer service was really unhelpful and answered like they don’t know the system .

Very poor service

Very poor service. Every time one speaks to them you get different conflicting info. Payments declined and they say they can’t say why due to bsnk policy and confidentiality despite sufficient funds.
Overall a pain in the neck. They are terrible and not fit for service.

Terrible business bank account opening service

I contacted NW after completing my application 10 days ago. And customer advisor in the chat window told me today that they have a delay of 35 days and they had emailed me. I have received nothing. They also claim to be advertising somewhere about the delay on the website. The advisor is unable to send a link about that delay. Chat window response is very slow.

Indifference or ignorance, or both

Indifference and attitude of some of the branch staff were staggering, partly explained by fewer branches and fewer staff in those branches.
I was advised by the online business team to go to a branch to close a business savings account, as I didn't have a current account with
NatWest. The first branch manger gave me incorrect and misleading information. The second one had a totally negative attitude and gave me several reasons why she could not do it. The third one was a breath of fresh air! He was patient and took the effort to find out the process and did everything in an hour. I would like to give a 5 star for that young man's initiative.
It took 2 days and three branch visits to close an account, in addition to the telephone calls. Would I do business with NatWest again!

Security ! What Security?

If banks were really taking online secuity seriously they would make it easier to get in touch .
Received a security alert : never reveal this code to anyone ......... . Contact us if you didn't request it.
Where /How? I didn't request a code so went online to my account, not a phone number in sight - Just Cara - who is about as useless as a chocolate teapot ! Cara suggested I report the fraud - where /how ? Asked Cara to speak to someone but put through to another webchat with an agent but no one responded said someone would respond in an hour ! Nothing like acting fast eh ! . Tried calling number on back of my card , went through the menus bla bla bla eventually call was terminated because I did not give an answer from the menu it gave me . My question was not on the menu.
Think perhaps its time to change to a bank that actually regards security as a serious issue.

Not interested in small businesses!

Registered a new ltd company, and needed a startup account. Went to NatWest as I'd never had problems with them for personal banking.

The application process demanded business bank accounts, tax returns, utility bills, leases for trading premises, insurance policies, just a slew of documents that only active trading companies would have.

Those who know UK law can see the issue here.

NatWest have no interest in offering startup or small business services, but insist on advertising it just to draw eyeballs to their website.

Wasted eight days waiting this process out, as though my deadlines weren't tight enough as it is.

Have now applied with Lloyds instead. Much better application process, only hiccup being waiting four days to get a response (but that's my fault for applying on a Thursday night!).

Waste of time to open an account!

I applied for a business account 10 days ago, but the process has been frustrating. Instead of making it easier to attract new commercial clients, the application process seems to be adding unnecessary challenges. I keep receiving the same questions repeatedly, and it’s been more than a week without progress. This experience has me reconsidering whether to continue with the application at all.

Terrible service !!

Terrible service !!! It’s been now nearly 3 weeks where I can’t use my card.
We have also requested to have an online banking to avoid further problems…. Unfortunately the activation code has been sent again in Braille.
All the statements are in braille and I just don’t understand how can I even trust that everything is going to be ok this time.
Everyone is just promising me that the problem will be fixed.
Customer service is awful.
Trying to get in touch with someone is so difficult. Even to make a complaint it’s near impossible.
They have a system error and all of the correspondence comes to me in BRAILLE !!!
All I hear is sorry we will fix it and next letter comes …. BRAILLE AGAIN!
Awful to deal with!
Do not use them !

Absolute shambles of a company

Absolute shambles of a company. Had to change to a business account as hmrc wouldn't recognise the account I was using to pay my vat. Was told the set up process would be quick and easy, well that was a load of @#%£. 21 days after the initial application I am no further on than I was at the start and can not have my receipt books printed as have no details to put on and can't pay my vat, and despite numerous phone calls and apologies no one seems to care
