Highly recommend to anyone who wants real coverage, not just fine print.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this one genuinely deserves it.

Before joining Bow Wow Pet Insurance, I spent months researching different policies after a really disappointing experience with my previous insurer, who barely covered anything and just wasn’t the right fit for my dog. I wanted something that actually matched her needs, not just something that looked good on paper.

My girl came from a rural pound and has had a very rough, abusive past. She’s incredibly anxious and fearful of most people, so her care goes beyond just the basics. What really stood out to me about Bow Wow was the range of coverage -especially things like dental, behavioural support, and even hydrotherapy ,which a lot of other insurers simply don’t offer.

Since joining, they have never once refused a claim. Not once. Every interaction has been smooth, and they’ve consistently followed through on what they promise. That kind of reliability gives you peace of mind you honestly can’t put a price on, especially when you’ve got a dog who needs that extra level of care.

I can genuinely say I feel relieved knowing I’ve finally found the right policy for her. It’s taken a huge weight off my shoulders.

Highly recommend to anyone who wants real coverage, not just fine print.

I am so grateful to be a client

I am so grateful to be a client with Bow Wow Meow Pet Insurance. Whenever I have had a need to take my gorgeous little dog Reggie to the vet I know I have the benefit of making a claim on the spot and only need pay the gap. After the vet visit I always get a claim receipt emailed to me. Everything about the way this company runs their business is so personal and caring. You really feel like you are part of a big family of pet lovers and they are always there as a reassurance that I can get the best of care for my little man. I have even had cause to use the 24/7 vet hotline that they provide and that experience was amazing. A huge thank you from me!!

The most difficult people to deal with!

In nearly 15 years I’d never claimed on this policy. My dog became acutely unwell one day. 3 trips to the vet over a week for in-depth investigations and day stays for I.V fluids. All visits related to heart failure and treatment of. All 3 invoices BWM said they were seperate conditions and allocated the $500 excess to each invoice meaning we barely got anything back. I had to phone BWM after every visit as the vet told us BWM didn’t pay anything towards the bill. Every time I fought the cause arguing on the phone how unfair this was and an absolute con! My complaint went to the review and I’m getting a refund of nearly $800. I wonder how many people just give up because it’s too hard?? Won’t insure my next animal with them. Even the vet said BWM are the hardest to deal with. Do not recommend BWM. Unnecessarily difficult. At 15 your dog gets diagnosed with heart failure it is heart breaking and then you have the added angst of dealing with BWM!

We are very sorry that you had to go through such a run around to get your claims paid. This is not the norm and we appreciate how stressful it must have been at a time when you were dealing with the emotional and sadness stress of your beloved dog being so unwell. While it isn't of any help to you for your existing policy, we have taken feedback like this on board and have changed to an Annual Excess on our Nose-to-Tail Cover, which means that our policy holders only need to pay one excess (if they choose to have one) per 12 month policy period. This will help avoid issues like you had from happening.

Again, we are very sorry to have caused you additional angst at an already difficult time Sarah.

Avoid this company, zero ground claims rejection is their standard

I wouldn't normally bother with a bad review, but Bow Wow Meow's poor customer service and untrustworthy claims assessment process has hit a nerve. Avoid this company, they use dodgy unethical means for avoiding claims payouts. My pet dog recently had a nasty ear infection and I didn't want to wait for availability (after the weekend) at my usual vet clinic, so I took him to a different vet that could see him the same day. He has never previously had an ear infection, and no insurance claim has ever been submitted regarding an ear infection. After I submitted my claim, I received a claim rejection notice (2 days later) from Bow Wow Meow on the grounds that it was a pre-existing condition. When I called to object to the assessment and enquire on what grounds, what evidence, they had made this assessment, the customer service team told me that they are unable to answer this, and that I would need to wait for the claims assessment team to respond, which would take 30 calendar days.

I called them today (7 days after my claim was denied) to ask if they had spoken to my usual vet to obtain a medical record which would show that my dog has never been seen for an ear infection. The customer service person again told me that she cannot answer this and that I would need to wait for the claims assessment to respond.

A simple phone call, or email, to my usual vet would resolve this within 1-2 days at most. I have called my usual vet and they are gong to send me an email confirming no prior history of ear infections, as well as my dog's full medical history. However, I have been repeatedly told by Bow Wow Meow to wait the full 30 days for an outcome. I don't understand why Bow Wow Meow rejected the claim so quickly, cannot explain on what grounds they did so, and then force their customers to be out of pocket for a month in order to get a review.

It's lucky this medical bill is ~$300, and not a major claim in the thousands. I do not trust Bow Wow Meow anymore with regards to accurate claims assessments, and it feels like they have an internal policy for rejecting claims as a default and waiting to see if a customers will object.

In the last 12 months, we paid out $43 million in claims to our customers, so it is not our default to deny them. Every claim is assessed carefully and individually, based on the information available at the time. Our team is currently investigating your claim to understand what went wrong here so we can provide you with some answers.

Your feedback highlights that our communication could have been clearer and more proactive in explaining the grounds of the initial decision and the steps being taken. We agree this should have been handled better, and we’ll use your feedback to improve our service.

Hank loves Bow Wow Meow

Being a cavoodle, Hank gets into everything!! He’s eaten chocolate, had major diarrhoea for a week straight, had swollen saliva glands, been bitten by a redback spider, etc. Bow Wow Meow has been amazing with every incident and assisted us financially on the spot.

Dont Do it

I would like to warn everyone about getting pet insurance for Bow Wow. We paid over $1600 to have our two year old GSD insured this year under the ultimate coverage with an 80% refund. That was after paying around $600 for the first year's insurance. A few days ago, she got desexed which cost over $1200. We submitted the claim and have been given a refund of $50. I rang them to query the amount, and they advised that under the Ultimate coverage, desexing is not covered. You would think taking an Ultimate cover would cover desexing but no. I cancelled the policy on the spot and will find a better insurer. So my advise, be really careful what you sign up for, they obviously have no real interest in what you need, just taking the dollars. An expensive lesson learnt. My 2cents worth is, stay away from these guys, promise you the world but only deliver the Atlas.

Desexing is considered to be an elective procedure and as such, is not covered by the majority of pet insurance companies in Australia. This is something we have tried to make clear on our website and in our PDS. However, we apologise if it was not made clear to you when you signed up. We do offer Routine Care as a non-insurance add-on that can cover a portion of desexing, as we understand it is a common procedure for pet parents. Bow Wow really do care

I've had my dogs covered with Bow Wow Pet Insurance for a number of years now, (going on 9+ yrs). Never had any issues when I put in a claim or when I do call. The consultants are respectful, and understanding.
I spoke to Josh today at great length and as I had been with the company for so long, he was extremely kind to offer me, ( & the dogs), a 3 mth grace. He also indicated as a pet owner himself, with the cost of living going up, its Bow Wow's way to say "thank you" for being a loyal client. BIG SHOUT to to you JOSH, and thank you.

So Far Excellent

I was with a major pet insurance company for 15 years. Switched to BWM when we got our boxer pup a couple of months ago. So far, so good, they have been excellent. Like all insurances, they are not inexpensive, but they are prompt and BWM does what it says on the tin. AND the big thing is they do NOT cap consultations (I usually run out of consultation insurance in the first month - not here). I have made a couple of puppy related calins, swallowing stuff they shouldn't, getting into a fight with a bull ant etc etc, and the puppy vaxs, the usual puppy stuff. They have been great, prompt and curteous with the added advantage of gap payment (don't let others tell you this isn't a big deal, it is - I just walk out the vet and tell the receptionist to send me the payment link when they have done their bit with BWM) it is so refreshingly simple.

4.5yo Border Collie with Seizures

We have a border collie who recently started having seizures in March - little did I know this would become an extremely big ordeal with MRI’s & Spinal Taps to ensure he didn’t have a brain tumour and to rule it all back to epilepsy (due to the severity of his last seizure).

We are still on a discovery path as whilst the tests conducted for brain tumours were clear, other things have been picked up and we are still investigating those.

However I could not have done any of this with out you (Bow Wow). The process has been smooth and efficient (especially with GapOnly vets), and pre-approvals were extremely fast (whilst on site or same day) which has been a god send when looking down the mouth of thousands of dollars, and keeping the process running quickly so we can get to the bottom of everything asap.

Thank you for all of your help to date, and hopefully after tomorrows vet visits we are at/ near the end of this ordeal and back to a happy and healthy dog ☺️

Incredible Service

Love the gap payment option

The gap payment option makes vet care for my pet so much more accessible for me. Between the vet staff being so efficient with their submission of the claims, and Bow Wow Meow being so efficient in dealing with them; I can just focus on looking after my beloved pet.
