We listened from the beginning. Sadly it's become just another commercial station with lots of adverts. Obviously someone in charge got the scent of money in their nostrils.
We now find it easier to ask Alexa to play some 80's music.
Everyone remembers Eddie stobart, they had a winning formula then some money hungry managers diversified into other things and now it's gone..no more

Too many adverts, repeated too often. Not good listening any more.

We have been Boom listeners from the beginning and it was great. Sadly it has become so commercial and focused on making money that it is now a string of the same old adverts with a few tracks in between. We gradually reduced our listening until only Nicky Horne at 4pm.
But then there are still those irritating EE ads with the American guy so now we have turn to Caroline Flashback which has no ads.

Love Boom Radio and have been a loyal listener, but am disgusted they have affiliated themselves with ‘Boom Singles’. They have obviously not done their research as the dating site is appalling. Since joining three days ago I have had hundreds of scam emails the majority of which are sexual and directed towards men. I am a 70+ woman! I’m also getting emails relating to something I put in my ‘profile’. I naturally assumed the dating site would be run by Boom Radio. It most definitely is not. STOP CONNING PEOPLE BOOM RADIO. I won’t listen to the station until you do and will inform my friends of the position.

Thank God for Boom Radio

I’m old enough to remember when all we had was the Beeb - and then came the offshore pirate radio ships in the 60s - and things were never the same.

The pirate radio ships brought a new world of music, entertainment, excitement and companionship into our lives. Sadly, with the exception of Radio Caroline, it was not to last.

The pirates did at least give Auntie Beeb the kick up the bum she so sorely needed and Radios 1 and 2 evolved. For several decades they were good listening, with Radio 1 catering for young listeners and Radio 2 there for the more mature audience.

Commercial radio has also become universal but oh dear, how woefully pathetic it is compared to the pirates. All the major ones are highly repetitive with minuscule playlists, presenters with nothing to say and nothing to play. All the big ones… Heart, Smooth, Magic, Absolute etc etc, are totally lacking in personality and mostly indistinguishable from each other. The one exception, to a limited extent, is Greatest Hits Radio, which at least has some quality presenters. However, the problem of blandness and repetitiveness persists.

The reason GHR has a slight edge in presenters is because Auntie Beeb’s Radio 2 committed suicide. Many of their best presenters are now on GHR. Why did Radio 2 make the inexplicable decision to alienate the older age group and try to compete with their own product, Radio 1? Nobody knows but they have paid the price and haemorrhaged millions of listeners. If you are over 55, there’s little to appeal on Radio 2 these days.

Cue Boom Radio. A few years ago, a group of ‘getting on a bit’ radio presenters saw the problem and that there was no longer any UK radio station that served the older age group. Boom Radio was born.

And with that, professional radio has returned to the airwaves. This is radio as it should be. We have presenters who can choose the music, are deeply knowledgeable about it, have something meaningful to say. Radio is once again companionable, entertaining and above all, NOT endlessly repetitive.

The balance is superb with music from the 60s and 70s primarily but also the occasional memory jerker from the 50s. In addition, the best of contemporary popular music gets dropped in so it is not totally golden oldies.

With mainstream commercial radio having totally lost the plot and the Beeb radio offering being now for a much narrower band of listeners, thank God for Boom Radio.

Boom is by far and wide the best nationwide radio station for music in the UK, especially for anyone pushing numbers higher than 50. They are fulfilling the dream of quality commercial radio that was initiated by the pirate ships in the 60s. Professional radio for mature listeners and all music lovers is back on the airwaves.

Mostly music and certain ‘DJs’ are great. However, the constant pushing of ‘our partners’ i.e. advertisers, a bit overly repetitive. Some of the ads. e.g. “turn your trinkets into cash…” have been banging on for months on end. I know commercial stations desperately need their advertisers but there is such a thing as too much.

I used to listen to BBC radio every afternoon to hear Steve Wright In the Afternoon but when he retired the presenters played their selections which I found too heavy. I found BOOM by accident and play it every day on my Alexa and my TV. It is truly great and the music brings back very happy memories. I have also told many others about the station and they too listen every day. I am 79 yrs young. Keep up the good work!! Dennis

Although I’m a younger generation but simply adore this radio! It’s my number 1 to go to, only occasionally I would switch to Magic or Smooth, for half an hour or so, if I don’t like the current melodies.
I didn’t give 5 stars only because I’m so upset with the news reader lady! The voice is lovely, but as hard as I try I don’t understand half of what she is saying, and that really is annoying.
Sad - and destroying - feature of our days: diversity over quality. I remain hopeful that common sense will finally take over.

Superb

I first came across this most excellent radio station a couple of years ago, and I have recommended it to several people since, who found it equally as excellent.
I've listened to so many DAB radio stations over the years, and they all have them same tired old format of lots of talking about stuff and fluff. Then there is the repeating of the same songs. Greatest Hits radio is a classic for this what with Curtis Mayfield, Kool and the Gang, etc.
Absolute radio used to be quality but now it's people like Frank Skinner chatting poo with his posh cronies.
Boom radio has likeable, personable people like Diddy David Hamilton, Judi Spiers, Roger Day, Graham Dene and my personal favourite, Little Nicky Horne.
The format is fresh with really good tracks us "oldies" know and then stuff that is hardly ever heard and the presenters try and give you the background of the songwriters or the song and sometimes their own personal experiences of their days back then.
They have also brought in Boom Rock now, which, if anything, does need some more presenters, but is still very good.
Please, please, please don't ever change Boom as you bring a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart.

Addicted to Boom Radio 97,3

Addicted to Boom Radio 97,3 . Listen to the thousand dollar minute contest a few times every day . Stu Jeffries is most personable and I doubt there isn't a listener that doesn't want to sit down and have a coffee with him . Great sense of humor . I'd take him out to lunch . Roy .
