We bid on Native American jewelry

We bid on Native American jewelry. The items in the auction were very good. When bidding with other auction houses, we are used to seeing more photos showing the front and back of the pieces.
Your bidding software is easy to use, but Heritage has the best auction software.
Arta has decent communication regarding shipping, but it is expensive (2 to 3 times normal) and the piece we bought was a silver cuff which was 2" x 2.5" x.5" and was shipped in a 14" x 12' x 4" box.

Their free valuations are AI and completely under value

Absolutely rubbish and I wouldn't trust them with a single item. I submitted pictures and an explanation of a piece of antique furniture and in seconds the valuation was generated, clearly by AI, at WAY below value (like one tenth). Probably a trick to make you ask for further investigation and get money out of you before you decide to sell it. I won't touch this company in the future.

Daylight robbery

My experience was good but given your recent commission increase to 30%, I suggest you change your logo to a man in a mask holding a gun. I will avoid your auctions in future.

Bonhams auctions have always been a favorite of mine . The staff is very friendly and personable. The quality of items they offer are the very best available.
I look forward to their Americana auctions particularly.
Keep up your great work !

Watch your back

Went to them for an appraisal on a gold Victorian necklace. Was told it was a lovely piece and they would like to sell it. Then their auction estimate was below melting price.

DK aution disappointment

I recently purchase a hat from the Diane Keaton collection through Bonhams. I was so shocked that after paying over $4000 for something it came in bubble wrap and with no certificate of authenticity. I immediately called them, at which time they promised to get back to me with an answer, which they never did. Cannot believe that with people paying these kids of prices, their was the result and customer service received! Won't purchase from them again!

Expensive and be warned / AVOID

When you leave absentee commission bids at Bonhams, they treat them as eBay style bids on the-saleroom where your bid is racked up by all and sundry. Add this to Bonham's HIGH buyer's premium and the fact they do not ship in-house, and you have what is likely to be the worst deal by far. AVOID if you can.

Totally unprofessional

Totally unprofessional, do not follow through, make promises they have no intention of keeping and invent auctions that never materialize. I feel as if I dodged a bullet by their dropping the ball on a large consignment of Danish silver I had agreed to let them sell.

I would recommend in the strongest possible terms not to deal with this organization in any way shape or form.

Severely Disappointed

I consigned a Native American necklace that had been in my family for years. Received a low, low amount. I would have kept it had I known Later on when I questioned results, I was told things about the stones being slightly different colors etc This had not been mentioned before the auction. I would not deal with them again.I felt I was misled .

Incompetent and untrustworthy.

I was told I'd have to wait 35 days after the auction to receive my money. That seemed a tad unreasonable, but I noted the date down as I'm in a financial pickle and was heavily relying on the money for essentials. The day the money was due to be paid I received an email asking to confirm my bank details. I did so, and followed up with an email asking if the money would still land that day as it was already 2:30pm, and I NEEDED the money in my account for the following morning. I was told "maybe, but definitely by 5pm the following day."
This was already bad enough, forcing me to borrow money on the strength of it. Then at 2:30pm the next day I'd heard nothing, so I emailed asking where the money was. The response was, "we just realised the customer never paid"!!!
For reference, the customer is obliged to pay within 48 hours of the auction's end. They chose to notify me 36 days later, a day after my money was due! (And only after being chased up!).
I demanded the watch be returned immediately so I could scrap it and get 'some' of my much-needed money. I was told they'd given the customer another week to pay. 11 days later I'd heard nothing, so chased them up again, demanding the watch be returned. I'm now being told, "arrangements are underway to return the watch".
'Disgusted' doesn't begin to describe my feelings towards these incompetent crooks!

Very unhelpful

As Bonhams were recommended to me, I submitted a south east Asian artefact for a possible valuation and sale, complete with photographs, measurements, information as to provenance etc, following the guidelines as required on the online form.
I received a short and very disinterested reply stating ".........we do not have a market for your property at this time". I would so have appreciated some small interest or recommendation for other possible valuation and sales outlets. The email states they are pleased to review images of any other works .... etc. I shall not be approaching Bonhams again.

A Horrible Buying Experience with Bonhams

Bonhams listed a Zsolnay item in which I had a strong interest as being in New York. It wasn't, it was in London and they never changed the listing after I alerted them. So I went to the London Bonhams' site and bought the plaque for a little over $6,000 on December 18. I have still not been able to get the piece released even though I paid the next day. I don't have it yet and it more than a month overdue and Bonhams has not been at all helpful. Please don't buy anything from them if you want a legitimate, smooth transaction. I will, of course, never buy anything from them in the future.

Almost everything that could go wrong…

Almost everything that could go wrong went wrong,
-The necklace was offered in a different auction then agreed.
-The necklace was broken by the photographer and I had to read about it in the auction blurp.(luckily it still sold, but was it the best price?)
-I am still waiting for the payment that had a fixed date of almost two weeks ago….
Never again!!
