Many consumers frequently complained about unexpected price jumps and misleading rates after officially committing to their initial insurance quotes. Policyholders also encountered lengthy delays, poor communication, and entirely unhelpful support when attempting to resolve important and urgent claims. However, some customers also noted that certain staff members were exceptionally compassionate, professional, and genuinely helpful during their phone calls. These reviewers truly appreciated individual agents who patiently guided them through complex policy setups and provided clear, reassuring explanations throughout the entire process.

Web site for damage claims was excellent and easy to use. Office staff members were very polite and easy to deal with on the phone.
The only problem I can see is that the insurance adjuster assigned to handle my damage claim seem to lack experience in the building restoration matters.

15 year of loyalty to get scam

I have been a Belairdirect customer for 15 years and have never missed a payment. When I added my wife to my policy, I was told there would be no charge. I was then billed $345 and have been unable to get a clear explanation for why.

I contacted customer service multiple times, but there were significant communication difficulties, and I was unable to receive clear answers to my questions. After 15 years of loyalty, I expected better transparency and customer service.

I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled and am considering moving my insurance elsewhere.

Belair Direct is terrible for claims and roadside assistance

Belair Direct is terrible when making a claim. It took nearly over a month to review body shop’s photos for an estimate.

Other Car broke down, requested roadside assistance, they chose a third party that was already on a call and a 40 minute wait estimate changed to 1 hour and 30 minute wait estimate

Very good company (at taking your money)

Very good company. Very good at taking your money.
Very poor at customer service. Made a claim (first time in my life) for an accident which was clearly the other driver's fault (she admitted, the police decided). a week after the accident and the claim, 0 updates, 0 progress (I took the car to a body shop a day after the accident). Out policy doesn't include a rental car, but since it was the other side's fault we asked for a rental at their expense. At first Belair said we will get it and just need to wait 24-48 hours, and then 72 hours and then 96 hours and then 144 hours, and nothing.
All the representatives are very understanding, and they know how frustrating it is, and we just need to wait patiently, but nothing is done and no one get's back to us, no matter what they promise.

Incompetent insurance company

When we were in BC, the company was good. We moved to Alberta, and the service has dropped down so far that you can't see the bottom.
First incident, accident not our fault, and from the start to the finish total incompetence. From not sending the documents until I phoned them back two weeks later and they didnt send them. Screwed up the car rental and the list goes on.
Second, been with this company for many years, and now they want me to do thier job and fill out a insurance form. Did it, sent it and getting emails saying not completely filled out, missing sections and that is an ongoing thing.
Never have I worked with incompetent people like I have been with this insurance company
My advice, go and get insurance from another company, might cost a bit more, but less stress and headaches.

am extremely disappointed with my experience with belairdirect regarding my car insurance claim.

My vehicle was hit in my workplace parking lot, and the person responsible left the scene. I immediately did everything required on my end — filed a police report, opened a claim with the insurance company, and provided every document requested, including phone records, proof of purchase, and any additional verification asked for.

My claim has been ongoing since January, 2026, and despite my full cooperation and quick responses, the approval process still has not been completed so my vehicle can be repaired. The delays and lack of resolution have caused me a great deal of stress and inconvenience, especially since I rely on my car for travel and important commitments.

I understand investigations take time, but after several months of providing everything requested, I expected better communication, urgency, and customer support. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and exhausting.

I hope belairdirect improves its claim handling process and treats customers with more efficiency and empathy during stressful situations like this.

I was looking for insurance for a new vehicle and it was also my first time doing so. Rishma did an absolutely amazing job on what would be best for me.

She was extremely helpful. She was looking at different ways we could set up the policy to give me the best premium possible. She explained everything super clearly and was just overall super lovely to work with throughout the whole process.

nightmare for my family and me

nightmare for my family and me. A small leak from a refrigerator water line damaged only a few floorboards, yet the handling of this claim has created far more destruction and stress than the original issue itself.
In 2000, I built our home from the foundation up. The house was completed in four months using quality materials and workmanship that I took pride in. Unfortunately, after years of maintaining our home, we are now dealing with unnecessary damage caused during what should have been a straightforward repair process.
Our insurance was originally with Johnson Insurance, which was later bought out by Intact Insurance and operated under Belair Direct. The restoration work was assigned to On Side Restoration. From the beginning, it felt less like restoration and more like demolition. I was told the original flooring could not be matched, and instead of repairing a small section properly, they ripped up large portions of the flooring and caused additional damage to walls and surrounding areas. I have personally seen these types of repairs done properly with the right tools and skilled workmanship, but that was not the experience we received.
We have now been out of our home since February and are still facing at least another four weeks before we can return, possibly longer. What should have been a manageable claim has turned into a major renovation disaster. Doors were improperly installed, work repeatedly stalled for weeks at a time, and communication has been poor throughout the process.
The kitchen was removed during the work, and our granite countertop was broken. We were then told the same granite could not be sourced again. This has now created additional expenses and forced us into decisions we never planned to make. A replacement kitchen was supposed to already be installed, but due to repeated delays and poor coordination, the new kitchen now sits stored in a container in front of our house while we continue waiting.
One of the biggest concerns has been the flooring. Our hardwood floors had recently been stained and finished, yet the coating was applied without proper heat in the house. Later, after the floors could be walked on, the heat was turned on and the flooring began lifting and cupping in multiple areas. We literally heard popping sounds throughout the floor. Since then, there have been few answers and little accountability. I repeatedly called and pushed for someone to inspect the issue until finally an adjuster came to see the damage himself. He agreed there was a problem, and a report was completed over three weeks ago, but nothing meaningful has happened since.
Adding to the frustration, I later discovered that On Side Restoration is owned by Intact Insurance. As a customer, this feels like a conflict of interest because the insurer and restoration company are connected, leaving homeowners stuck in a closed loop with nowhere to turn when problems arise. Complaints seem to circle back into the same system instead of being independently addressed.
This situation has caused tremendous stress on my family emotionally, financially, and mentally. Delays over simple approvals take days, communication is inconsistent, and we have been misled on several occasions throughout this process. What began as a relatively small insurance claim has now become a massive, expensive, and exhausting ordeal.
At this point, all we want is to return to our home with the repairs completed properly and professionally. Once everything is finally finished, I will be carefully evaluating the full extent of the damage, the workmanship, and the way we were treated throughout this entire process. I believe people higher up within these companies need to understand what customers are actually experiencing, because without accountability, these issues will continue happening to other families.

Belair Direct Doesn't Care About You

I truly wish 0 stars was an option. I have been with Belair Direct for 14 years. We have 1 car between my wife and I. My wife had 1 accident in 2021, and I had my first accident in my life last year. Come to find out this year they are canceling us because of 2 or more at fault collisions (My wifes, and Mine). I have always had accident forgiveness on my policy since I started with them in 2012. But apparently, when I got a new car sometime between 2016 and 2021, that accident forgiveness didn't transfer over. And they claim I declined it. Which I never did. They also are not willing to prove it. During my wife's accident, we were also told that accident forgiveness was in affect, and that our premium wouldn't change and surprisingly, after my wifes acident, my premium didn't increase, in fact, it decreased the following year. They are clearly hiding something because they are not accepting any of this information as fact, and not willing to prove that I ever declined accident forgiveness.

After paying over $30,000 to them, and only ever getting around 10k back after the 2 accidents. Now with 1 accident on my playbook in 14 years of driving, and 1 accident on my wife's playbook, we are considered high risk now. Thanks Belair.

2nd part of this review: The 2 times we had accidents, they wanted to write off our cars. The first time I understand because there was a good amount of body damage. The 2nd time, a driver hooked my car rim, and dragged me 6 feet, using their vehicle as a battering ram essentially. I was found at fault for their stupid reasons and the damage was a broken knuckle, and a broken tie rod. It was my first ever accident myself so I had no idea what I needed to do. I regret ever calling them. Even during the claim process last year. About 2 days after, when they hadn't looked at the car, and it was sitting in a tow company lot. I specifically asked them how to stop going through with the claim, and just to repair it on my own, and they refused me. Knowing that I would be canceled the following summer without actually warning me about it. Then after 2 weeks of no car and my rental car coverage ending, they towed it 2 hours away, just to tell me they were going to write it off because of a bunch of fake repairs that they claimed it needed. They marked a scratch on the fender, that has been their for ages, and I specifically stated there was no body damage. They stated it needed a new rim, which it didn't. They claimed it needed all new struts, which it did not, claimed it needed new control arms, which it didn't. After arguing with them, they agreed to let me buy the car back for scrap costs and I could fix it. And if I brought a safety certificate back and proof of repair. Then I could get it re-insured. So I took the $5,500, and repaired the car for $1,500, plus had to pay 800$ to get it towed back. Got the safety done. Sent them all this. And they refused me. Stating I needed to get the vehicle marked as a rebuilt, and that involved a structural safety too, which was just not going to happen. After arguing with them, and refering them back to the letter they gave me that I had in writing, stating that I only needed proof of repair and a regular safety. They re-instated my insurance.

I understand they are the most affordable insurance. But they are the worst company to deal with. Horrible custom service, does not want to actually help you, tries their best to screw you, and tries everything to not have to payout or follow their promises.

If you have plenty of free time and…

If you have plenty of free time and enjoy chasing people for months over a small claim, then Belair is the perfect insurance company for you.

My Claim took months to fully close. The best part? An adjuster gets assigned to you initially, but after the first call, they magically disappear forever. Every time you call, a different person answers and you get the pleasure of explaining your entire story all over again.

They also failed to pay Enterprise on time, which resulted in me receiving collection notices twice. I informed Belair multiple times and the response was always, “We are working on it.” Eventually, Enterprise charged my credit card directly and then I had to go through Belair’s reimbursement process and it took another month to settle.
Overall, a fantastic experience if your goal is stress, wasted time and zero accountability.

Great job, Belair. Keep it going.

worst service of any industry I've ever received

submitted a claim over a week ago and still haven't spoken with my adjuster. they call me when they know i can't answer the phone and don't reply to my emails. worst service by any company in any industry I've ever received. luckily the damage isn't too much because i choose to eat the bill then deal with whatever games these clowns are trying to pull. Luckily I renew my insurance next month. NOT WITH THEM.

Worst insurance company

Worst insurance company, when you add new driver they double the premium and force you to take or cancel your policy ( and charge cancellation fee without even mentioned you ) very rigid no matter how long you being loyal customer. With new company is only 15-20% increase in premium for adding new driver.

They were a cheap option but have a very unethical practice of renewals that does not comply with BC Consumer Protections Act which does not allow auto renewals that is 1 year and beyond without the consent of the individual. In this case they auto renew my home insurance for 2 years, even though they even mentioned in their emails if I do not confirm the renewal, that it will be cancelled (an email communication). And then after that they sent it to collections.
