Can’t get timely repair of fire

have a Bellfire which has stopped working after a few years. The dealer has offered to repair it in early 2024! It is a great fire, but it will be of no use to me for the next six weeks. I have asked Barbas Bellfire for assistance. So far, no assistance has been offered. I wonder do they care about the customers experience after the fire is sold?

Horizon xxl remote is poor

I bought an Horizon XXL less than 2 years ago, it was not cheap costing me £6000. It is a great looking fire however recently the remote control stopped working, on contacting the company who supplied the fire I was informed that the remote is not covered under any warranty and I would have to buy a new one at £160 each. The remote should last more than 2 years when you spend so much much on the fire, it is a plastic flimsy bit of kit so I suspect will be prone to faults, something to consider when you are looking to buy one of these fires

Don't believe what you SEE!

I purchased my Large Corner Bell Fire a few months ago. I wanted to give my experience so that others will understand what buying one of their fire’s entails.

You need to buy the fire from a dealer. There are loads of dealers so don’t accept the first price, they will barter. Much like the car industry there are several addons to make it look it look like the catalogue. These can ramp up the price significantly. This can include the flue kit, anti-reflective glass, special black glass at the back, handles to carry it, you get the point.

If fitting a fire into a new place rather than an existing fireplace, you will face significant costs to install it. In my case this included a metal frame to hold the fire in place and special concrete fireproof board (not red plaster board) at £175 a sheet. You can use their builders or your own. If you use your own, you will need a plumber to connect the gas separately.

Unlike any of their pictures you will also have a control box connected to the fire which needs to be accessible. In my opinion this looks unsightly and spoils the look (You can pay for another add on to make the cable longer, we weren’t told till it was too late). No wonder it doesn’t appear in their catalogue pictures. You will also need to place a vent somewhere on the fireplace.

All in all, we have had walls down a new roof, new flooring, and a new kitchen. This was the most awkward part of our renovation. Manly because Bell Fires and their dealer are not honest about what to expect (In my opinion).

I did advise Bell Fires about the issues, but the customer services is poor and you are fobbed off or sent to the dealer.

One final point never put masking tape on the fire it will take off the paint. Page 58 does advise this, or so they told me.

I wouldn’t say don’t buy one (it looks great), just be aware it’s not a straightforward process.

Good product but after sales service is…

Good product but after sales service is appalling Bell don’t employ any engineers & rely on others to try & maintain them. My fire has not worked properly since it was installed, keeps exploding in the fire box. Installer heat & design said they have after sales service but say 15 Miles is to far for them to come. Bell need to employ there own engineers, how can they get away with selling a product but don’t have anyone to maintain them, ??
