AV Forums, where the difference between debate and debase is just a typo.

It's a place for anyone who likes to see issues of all levels of importance reduced to meaningless bones of contention by the prevarication as fact of the crud that fills the heads of palpably dissatisfied group-thinkers who have elected to forego real life in an undying quest for token satisfaction from within the confines of virtual anonymity.

For everyone else, try the pub.

@Dave (aka Irongiant, one of the moderators complained about by reviewers he now accuses of "running a vendetta against the forum").

Have you really come onto Trustpilot to leave your SIXTH 5-star "review" of AVF just to accuse someone whose comment you don't like of being "sad, obsessive and a tiny bit pathetic"?

It's very clear that most of the 5-star reviewers (including forum moderators themselves) have deliberately ignored the toxicity and bullying on the forum, not least of all by moderators, and are running a tit-for-tat cover-up exercise.

This is the sort of content deemed acceptable on AV Forums.

"Distinguished" AV forums member "LakieLady" said:

"Makes you wonder how many monarchists might change their minds if some sort of calamity were to befall William, Kate and their children, and they had the prospect of King Harry IX and Queen Meghan to look forward to".

To which the "Distinguished" forum member "richp007" replied:

"I pray for it every night, goes in my letter to Santa every Christmas :)".

I saw the pair of posts above only yesterday on AV Forums and was disgusted when a complaint to the moderation team came back saying it was merely "satire" and nothing would be done about it,

From other reviews it it is now abundantly clear to me, as a newly active AV Forums member, that moderation is geared to supporting extremist content and that they will even support a post praying that, with regard to the British Royal Family, some sort of calamity befalls Prince William, his wife Kate and their children.

With any appeal to the forum moderators being an apparent waste of time I advise others, and there seem to be plenty here, with issues regarding what is perceived to be acceptable content on the AV Forums, to send screen shots to the CEO's of their larger advertisers, such as Philips UK, to make them aware of the content being approved alongside their adverts.

Maybe if these fee paying advertisers see this sort of content is being permitted alongside their product names they may think to use their clout to suggest the moderation is revised, or indeed if it's an appropriate forum to use at all.

In this sensitive period with our nation still very much in mourning for the death of our Queen, approving the above is, in my opinion, and maybe yours too, inexcusable,

I will be sending screenshots of this content to potentially interested parties.

There are plenty of other things people disgusted by such content can do, as well as using this excellent medium offered by Trustpilot, if you care, don't be browbeaten and let such things continue!

I use this site daily

I use this site daily, it's extremely informative if you need any information or help with Audio Visual equipment from buying advice to problem solving. There are also many threads on different topics which I find fun to read. All in all I think this is a good and entertaining site, I give it a big thumbs up.

Vile, leftwing, abusive forum

Vile, angry, ultra-left forum…

Probably the most leftwing forum on the internet. What was once a welcoming & friendly forum for like-minded audio-visual fans has now become a vile, abusive, aggressive place to anyone with a different viewpoint from the non-working lefties.

The owner Stuart who used to be heavily involved in the forum, stay’s clear away as his views are not similar to his ‘Hitleresque moderators’, and like many leftwing mentalists, they have overtaken the asylum & are in charge.

God forbid you to mention Corbyn or Blair in the same sentence as Hamas or IRA, as you’ll be bombarded with hate messages that are allowed by the tweed-wearing moderating team.

Imagine Internet keyboard warriors who hide behind screens, probably with pictures of Kier Starmer on the ceiling. - this is AVForums.

If I were a business, I would reconsider my investment.

Overall a very good online forum

Overall a very good online forum. Well organised and easy to navigate. Informative review section with in depth analysis. Fantastic classifieds section which is really well moderated. The moderators give up their free time, take on a lot and work hard to keep things civil in the discussion threads and by and large do a good job.

It definitely would benefit from more even handed moderation with regard to political leanings as members with left leaning viewpoints tend to get away with behaviour that isn't tolerated when coming from the opposite direction. There's also something of a tendency to close ranks and engage in moderator praise which doesn't help.

Overall though a fantastic online resource and well worth checking out.

I've been a forum member for a fair few…

I've been a forum member for a fair few years and have always found the mods friendly and helpful, especially in the case of Iron Giant. They're also approachable, which is more than can be said on other forums.

Not everything written here is fact, mostly just sour grapes when the poster suffers the penalty for not obeying the rules, which says more about them than the forum.

The forum is amazeballs!! the moderators, especially Irongiant are giants of the moderator world.. Though I don't know them I can imagine them walking across a lake to heal the broken wing on a swan. They are light, they are truth, they are love.

1 star is too many!!

Awful awful place, the politics forum is full of dozens of ultra left wingers who refuse to accept any conservative views on the forum and constantly gang up on you and call you a troll and report you to the mods if you say anything remotely non left wing, they are backed up by their fascist mod friends like IronGiant and Lynx who warn or ban you if you are conservative (for example recently I made a non abusive post about climate change and IronGiant banned me for a week for “extreme trolling” because I dared to have an alternative view to the marxists in there) avoid the site unless you are an ultra woke corbynista

Worst of the lot is IronGiant, he will give you warnings and bans for posts he does not agree with on the grounds of “trolling”, he reminds me of those power mad traffic wardens who give tickets to ambulances and hearses and tickets to vehicles parked 30 secs over the allowed time

The problem with this forum is…

The problem with this forum is moderation, plain and simple. The 'problem moderator' mentioned is IronGiant, and I agree with that assessment.

But he's following the instructions of the site owner, who isn't interested in having open discussions. Even so, the behavious of IronGiant towards members is appalling.

People complain about twitter and other social media, but they are bastions of free speech compared to this forum.

I agree with most of the negative reviews

This review has been edited to remove names of actual people, as requested.

I agree with most of the negative reviews. I have been a member of avforums for 15 years and as many have observed, a once great forum is now in a very poor state. I could mention various posters but the main problem is the moderation, which tends to cater to the lowest common denominator.

The main culprit in the moderation team is IronGiant, who probably wrote the 5 star reviews (or maybe his boss did). Unlike most moderators on that forum, IronGiant gets involved in debates and arguments, but when he is embarassed by another member, he then uses his moderator status to try to suppress the debate, often with threats of further action.

In fairness to other mods, this problem was admitted to a while ago by a senior moderator, who told me that this is why he does not post in contentious topics, but also that he cannot stop other moderators like IronGiant from posting in threads.

Irongiant also tries to play to the gallery by attacking other members, which is cowardly since they do not have the right of proper reply without being banned. However, most members treat his bullyboy behaviour with the contempt it deserves.

I think that this forum could be rescued from its current downward trajectory by a change in approach towards more hands off moderation that only gets involved if there is a clear breach of rules, but firm action when there are rule breaks. Moderators should also be discouraged from posting in contentious topics, but in reality few do this with the main offender being the aforementioned IronGiant.

View from an ex member

I was a member of AV-Forums for about 16 years. I asked to be removed from the forum about 5 weeks ago and I wish I had not done so.

The forum is first class for all AV related matters and has an exceptional classifieds section. In addition the general chat threads are very insightful and there is a large community of knowledge too tap into or even add to.

Sure, the Politics Section can be a bit brutal / gladiatorial, however, for every person who is perturbed by a persons political comments the vice-versa rule will apply. I think the issue is that one particular side is more prevalent, but that’s life and users do not have to view the politics section anyway (after all, the forum is primarily for Audio - Visual)

Many, if not all of the users criticised on here are being unfairly called out, you can be sure that those users would have the same alternate views but choose to keep council.

The above is true of the mods as well, IG, Steven and Rousterfarin are patient and expressive, just because they may disagree with a AVF posters, leaving the comments that have been made is unfair and unwarranted.

It’s a great forum and I miss it.

Hitting women promoted on this site

Im a Brit living in Spain and looking for a new Tele and came across site. was really helpful and thought was a great site. happened to go their chat pages and saw some posts about punching people in the face. was quite shocked to see this. suprising to see lots of women being mentioned. one person in one post said they wanted to punch the wife. the chat seems to be moderated by someone who is mentioned in some other reviews here. thought a moderator on a website wouldn't allow this. showed my wife who was upset and she reported to police in uk. police said would pass on info to intelligence and look into some people.quote suprised some Tele website is doing this.

Best forums around (especially to chat and contribute about films)

Excellent forum. I’ve been using it for around 20 years. At first, it was to use the classifieds but over time I began to explore the other forums - which are vast. I love chatting with fellow enthusiasts, reading and participating - particularly about films. Ignore the negativity as it mainly comes from some who get their underwear in a twist talking about politics. One of the (if not THE) best forums on the internet.

Site is a joke

Site is a joke. Moderator ''Steven'' will delete all comments that criticise Keir Starmer but will leave every comment that criticises Jeremy Corbyn. Its run by right wingers and centrists.
