no longer the cheapest
For the past 3-4 years, we have always booked our car with Auto-Europe for our road trip. In previous years, they were also by far the cheapest. Unfortunately, we now find that this is no longer the case (change in company policy?). We can now hire the same car from the same car hire company for much less.
Total scam
Total scam. We booked a car and when we arrived, they didn't accept our various credit cards. We travel all the time and have never had a problem with our credit cards. Impossible to get a refund.... We had to get another car. It's outrageous.

Utterly unreliable
Upon booking with Auto Europe, I re-checked with them that there was no cross-border fee. Auto Europe confirmed in writing there was none. Upon pick up, the supplier said this was a mistake of Auto Europe. The supplier called Auto Europe in front of me and eventually passed me the phone. The guy from Auto Europe on the phone acknowledged it was their mistake, I should pay the fee, and Auto Europe would refund me. I have contacted them after car handover to request refund, submitted all supporting documents. They have not replied to my last 5 emails. They are just good in making promises, but unable to keep them. A nasty experience with a reckless and disgusting company!!

Pure scam
We rented a car via the website and made a mistake in the booking, upon finding out at the desk, it was "not possible" to rectify the mistake and for an annulation 300 Euros are charged. Very poor experience

Awful service,non-existant customer service.
The booking -and payment-went fine, but that was the only thing. However, when flight to the US SN 501 on 10 May was first delayed by 4 hours and ultimately cancelled, there was no way I could reach autoeurope to inform them. I called their numbers and once they said " the rules for cancellation are 48h in advance", later on there were no replies either on the regular number on the website, nor on the socalled emergency number. It took some searching for an email address. I sent 3 emails asking them to reschedule the pick-up because of the plane's delayed arrival. However NO REPLY!
CUSTOMER SERVICE NON EXISTANT. IT IS THE WORST RENTAL AGENCY I HAVE EVER USED!

They canceled my booking because of…
They canceled my booking because of "security reasons" Then when confronted about it, they said that they needed to verify my identity but that there was no way to do it, so I went ahead and sent them a copy of my identity through email. Still, they refused to accept it, saying that sending documents via mail is unsafe!!!!!!
PS: Refund is still not processed at the moment of writing this review.

Disastrous experience
I recently had an extremely disappointing experience with Auto Europe. After reserving a car for a specific period, I was faced with an unforeseen situation at the airport, preventing me from collecting the vehicle from the start of the rental.
The problem arose due to circumstances beyond my control, and unfortunately, Auto Europe has chosen to treat the situation with complete inflexibility and lack of understanding. Not only did they refuse to allow me to collect the car one day after the start of the rental, but they categorically refused to issue a refund, despite the obviousness of the situation.
The customer service, represented by a lady on the phone, turned out to be one of the most deplorable aspects of this experience. His loathsome attitude and complete lack of empathy towards the difficult situation I was facing greatly contributed to my frustration. Instead of looking for solutions, she preferred to adopt a confrontational and uncooperative approach.
The problem doesn't end there. While trying to resolve this situation through communication, I discovered that Auto Europe was virtually unreachable. Repeated attempts to contact them went unanswered, and to top it off, they blocked my phone number, making further communication impossible.
This experience was infuriating, disappointing and greatly tarnished my opinion of their professionalism and customer service. I strongly advise against doing business with this company as their attitude and lack of cooperation towards customers with unexpected issues is unacceptable.

Website is really good, but some times no one picks the contract number given on your website. In times of emergency , this can be a big problem

It’s a total scam
It’s a total scam! I had to deal with very arrogant French people on the phone that insulted me and admitted they were scamming me. Long story short, I paid a rental via Auto Europe in Cagliari Italy but had some delay due to strikes in airports which they knew about. Still they are telling me to modify my rental since I’m taking it later than expected… the thing is that it is impossible to modify anything within 48h before taking the rental. So at the desk the guy from Thrifty told me the car was waiting for us he just needed the modified contact… results: We lost our rental, no refonds where apparently possible, the French guy on the phone is totally assuming that he was scamming me « Yes, if you say so, it is a scam, you’re not the first and won’t be the last »
A total SCAM, never again I’ll rent my cars via Auto Europe!

Fluent experience
Fluent experience, some improvements possible.
I’ve used autoeurope many times, so I know it’s trustworthy and what to pay attention to: car rental location (at airport) and fuel policy (full to full).
One thing that is missing and therefore no 5 stars: possibility to print my car voucher in English when I make my reservation in Dutch (to show to car rental service).
Their new excess restitution is also still very unclear to me as they explicitly say it’s not an insurance. For that reason I still use worldwideinsure.com excess insurance.
Also, the prices fluctuate wide over several days, which might be out of their control but is still annoying (have to go back and check and cancel previous order). Automated system would be better.
