This is for anyone considering sheltered accommodation for their frail relatives.
At Heathfield Court in Birmingham a simple smamm lift was out of order for 7 weeks, their excuse?, waiting for a ' part" from Sweden,I could walk to Sweden in 7 weeks and back.
And now on 20th July, just a couple of weeks after,it's clapped out yet again.
This leaves elderly tenants trapped .
There has been no information given as to when, again it will be working.
Take a look at the social housing regulayers report on them...the worst in the country.

My parents own a flat within one of Anchor's retirement properties and have done so for a while now (about a decade). When my parents first moved in there was a full time live in manager. This has now reduced to a part-time manager who lives out. Also, when they first arrived there seemed to be prompt action when something went wrong. Not so now, Anchor employ Ian Williams as their maintenance contractor (I would recommend looking at their reviews separately to understand the implications of this). My parents were recently left without hot water for an unacceptable period and we still haven't had a resolution for problems with their shower. I would certainly think twice about purchasing a property in an Anchor retirement home and recommend everyone read the regulator of social housing judgement of them search for "Anchor Hanover Group (LH4095) - Regulatory Judgement: 25 June 2025"

Absolutely shocking treatment of a pensioner.
Last Wednesday afternoon I received a call from Manager of Anchor - Townhead Court , Settle. I missed the call and phoned back and had gone home.
I rang back the next morning and spoke to the manager.
It was an offer of accommodation in a studio apartment and could I do a viewing. We arranged a virtual viewing on the Friday morning and I liked the property.
She the manager was very friendly and helpful.
I was to provide various information and sign documents all of which I did.
She said that she would be in contact on the Monday with further information.
Monday came and no communication so as Tuesday came I was concerned.
I rang around midday and she the manager said that my application on the property was stalled.
Central Office said I was being offered a different property.
The manager had not bothered to share this information with me.
I said that I would contact Central Office to sort out.
After around 45 minutes it was sorted and I was good to proceed with Townhead Court. They would send an email to the manager saying my application would proceed.
I rang the manager back and she said I will have to wait until I hear.
She said I finish at 330pm and had zero concern for my inconvenience.
She said that she would be back in touch when she had heard from Central Office.
Today came and again no contact from the manager. I checked with Central Office and she had been sent the email saying I had no property offer and Townhead Court could proceed.
The man was helpful from the call centre and rang her but no answer.
I said to the call handler that I wished to make a complaint about the manager.
He took the details and said would pass it on.
Hours later still not heard.
I said to the call handler that the manager had gone incommunicado and from being so helpful last Friday had effectively victimised me by omission.
She had given me the silent treatment.
She even avoided Central Office phone calls and emails.
I can only think that this manager had someone else lined up for the property as she effectively sent me to Coventry
Because of Anchors despicable behaviour I have had to rescind my notice on my current property.
I have rung Anchor and said that I want nothing further to do with them.
I stated that the manager of Townhead Court in Settle is unprofessional, uncaring and unsuited for work with older people.
I would advise Anchor to offer a different role , maybe in the office centrally to this manager, non speaking .
Anchor need to take the sternest action so as to prevent this distress occurring in the future.
Anchor is a misnomer in this particular case . driftwood is more apt.
Response from organisation - Thanks for the response.but they have shown no urgency the complaints team in contacting me.
They sent an email I gave my telephone number and still no response.
Anchor to me have contempt for me and if there is one there will be more.
An unwieldy bureaucratic organisation that allows a Townhead Court manager to offer a place after a viewing and then go silent .
Hoping she is removed from her position.

Awful badly run and repairs and enquiries take an age.
Too many managers and none of them give a toss anyway.
You are sent around in circles and the badly behaved residents seem to get away with murder.
Avoid this company

The majority of reviews on here are from new residents’ invited’ after they’ve signed up.
They have not lived with Anchor yet.
Where is the review site for Anchor residents who have lived with Anchor for a while and can write a sensible review ?
I can’t find it.
Is there one ?
Their Flats are big and airy. Our site Manager Panny is so nice and very helpful to everyone. Her staff are all fantastic. Residents are lovely. It is a great place to live honestly.

I found Anchor Housing very helpful and informative on starting my new tenancy. NO COMPLAINTS. The warden was very good and explained everything. I was delighted to get the Anchor payment card as I dont have a credit bank card. The accommodation studio flat fine. And fellow tenants kind and friendly.
..NO COMPLAINTS...
Pity there isnt a handyman on Maryfield site. As a lone widow had to rely on male friends to put up curtain racks. The launderette great. As before I had to hand wash my clothes and use nearby launderette in High Street for bedding. Garden Patio and deckchairs
lovely. Communal room good with a big kitchen. Nice to be near countryside, large gardens nearby.
Suggestions...
Be lovely if manual piano go in the communal room
Chess/Scrabble/Dominoes/Cards league started ..
Communal Very Big TV . Similiar to a Pub
situated very high up to stop breakage.
so tv controls with Warden or responsible tenant..
Notice Board if anyone is willing to go to shops freely if other tenants not got all their shopping in.
...........Most get home deliveries.................
Warden come round with a alcholic drinks trolley in the evenings. Residents allowed One large alcholic drink for medical reasons only..

I used to work for the old Hanover housing Association before Covid so when I needed the place to live in in my old age, I looked to Anchor Hanover and found a place in Chippenham where i have now lived happily for 5 years. Yhe manager Sarah and her team are all helpful and friendly and any query or problems quickly resolved
Today i spoke to Emma on the helpline regarding a rent issue, quickly resolved in a cheerful non judgmental manner
10/10 all round

The local Manager facilitated an exchange for us with a resident who wished to be on a higher floor with us who wished to be on the ground floor. He enabled the paperwork and permissions we cannot appreciate his assistance too much

Anchor has been very helpful with my new journey. The manager has been brilliant in helping me with everything that needs to be done. As in paperwork, making sure everything was neat and tidy in flat all ready for me to move in. I’m sure I will be very happy living here knowing Anchor/managers are here to help me in anyway.

As a Neighbour of Anchor care home in West Byfleet, I am listening to loud music with heavy base at 19:30hrs from a employee who thinks it's acceptable to blast out their music from there car. Not acceptable to me and certainly not acceptable to the customers and family who pay a high fee to live in nice surroundings. This is on going. At happens late in the evening.

I was facing homelessness and Anchor gave me a home. The staff are warm and friendly and always ready to help me. Can't thank them enough.

The onsite staff are so helpful and friendly.
Maintenance lagging a bit behind, for example, new door had to be installed but no arrangements made for painting - shame as everything else is just about perfect
