Alabama Power sucks your pockets dry

Alabama Power charges far too much for the level of service they provide. The rates keep going up, but the service quality does not improve. Power outages happen at random, and when the power goes out, repair times take forever. It feels like customers are paying premium prices for unreliable service and slow response times.

The two-year rate lock is ridiculous, especially when customers are already being overcharged. Locking people in while providing poor service and frequent outages is unfair. Overall, this company is overpriced, unreliable, and frustrating to deal with.

Just posted another record profit. Politicians pockets are overflowing with joy!

I have a complaint against Alabama…

I have a complaint against Alabama Power. I went to the Pelham location and spoke with a supervisor/specialist named Phyllis and she refused to let me get power turned on at a location that someone else had and left a bill behind. She told me that I was affiliated with the person and the bill had to be paid in order for me to get the power turned on, even though the name was in that tenant‘s name/her husband‘s name she still refused to allow me to have power turned on at the residence in another county. She told me that there was no one else at the office at that time that I can speak with that I cannot get information on anyone over her that she could pass my number along, and I would have to wait for them to contact me and let me know what’s the next move how is this fair to me that you wanna hold me accountable for someone else’s account and on top of that that person put my name because I didn’t know the person put my name on the bill as someone to contact and she turned around and use it saying that because they were because I knew that person in that person put my name on their own there as a contact that now I can I cannot have the power because I knew the person that lived there so how am I responsible for someone else’s bill? How are you holding me accountable for someone else’s bill? I never lived at that address. The address that I live it. I’ve been here for over 20 years so I have never had any anything established in the place where this person resides so how can I be held accountable and I told her how could she go online and add my name and me not sign papers or Alabama Power not contact me because when I had my account established, I had to bring drivers license and all other documents to say who I was in order to have my lights turned on so how was it was so easy for her to add me Onto her account and not be questioning about it is that not identity theft is that not fraud? I don’t know Miss Phyllis make it make sense to me. again this is for Phyllis at the Pelham office supervisor/specialist.

Alabama Power The Great Monopoly

This is what their bio says! "combination of competitive prices" If I could swear I would but this is far from the truth. This is a company is a monopoly and hurting American's every single day. It is disheartening what they do to homeowners, renters and the people of Alabama. I am sure they are lining the politicians pockets to be able to continue to operate as a MONOPOLY!! Way to hurt people!

Worst power company have ever been…

Worst power company have ever been with.. Power goes out even if it’s not even storming and best believe it will be the same areas every time I just don’t get it. Don’t talk about restoration, wow‼️ They will give you a certain estimated time for the power to be restored but guess what, It’s never an accurate time they will have you in the cold, heat and dark for many extended hrs.. just sad I wished I could of given 0 stars

I dread that I will have to use this power company since moving to Prattville. I have been with Dixie Electric for almost six years and never had an issue with cost of bills or power outages. Alabama Power is one of the worst companies ever!!!!

Hairline between legallity and how are you operating

Wow, where do I even begin with Alabama Power—sorry, “A Southern Company”? If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be trapped in a never‑ending carousel of incompetence, confusion, and “invisible deposits,” look no further. Power’s a necessity, right? Well, apparently not for these folks, who make Windows 98 look like a high‑speed fiber‑optic connection when you call to disconnect service.

First off, let me applaud their stellar legal expertise. I asked to shut off power to a house I own—no lights, no appliances, nothing—and they insisted I pay my ex‑wife’s mysterious, phantom bill before they’d even entertain my request. When I pointed out there had been no service for a year, they suggested I “log into her account” to pay up. Fraud much? I half‑expect them to ask for my neighbor’s Social Security number next.

Deposits? Oh, they’ve got deposits galore. I’ve paid four—yes, four!—and never seen a single refund. It’s like rent for an invisible power plant they claim ownership of via some arcane “core charge.” I wouldn’t be surprised if they branded it as “innovation.”

And the customer service representatives? Let’s just say their GED‑level responses are award‑worthy—if the award were for “Most Likely to Confuse You Further.” One minute you’re asking simple questions about billing, the next you’re starring in an unsolicited data‑privacy horror show as they try to sling your ex’s personal info across the line for a mere eighty bucks. Spoiler alert: it’s a felony for them, too.

Long story short, save yourself the headache. Buy a generator, invest in a solar panel, or move to the dark ages—just don’t subject yourself to this overpriced circus. Unless you’re into endlessly looping phone menus, phantom fees, and corporate “Southern hospitality” that’s really just a front for hustle and negligence, steer clear. My next step? A certified letter, regulatory complaints, and a highlight reel of call recordings. Trust me, it’s worth the popcorn. I just don't wanna pay the overprice for it. But I mean gotta have power pretty smart business plans handed to the wrong ones. Love that saying though what goes up must come down. or karma might be better. I like it is what it is. Cause I know I have to get on an unmatched level of sarcasm to make it through the phone chat even if its to check my bill. Hope yall enjoy chatting with barbera or whatever. GL. The entertainment is not worth the price though.

Smart Meters are Dangerous But Alabama Power Does Not Care

Alabama Power is a failed company. It does not deserve even one star. As a former resident of TX I can assure you that their rate is too high. Unlike in TX, here in Alabama, where I live, the residents are forced to use only Alabama Power, there is no other company we could choose. You'd think that in a free market called Capitalism, the citizens would be able to pick and choose, but no! Not when it comes to electricity.
What bothers me the most is the fact that they install on your walls a Smart Meter, and would not agree to come and change it. You cannot opt out of this device that's been proven to spread radiation and be highly dangerous. It is written online that one can opt out of Smart Meters but when you call them, they will give you an attitude and refuse to dismantle it. You cannot opt-out! Who should I call first? My attorney or RFK Jr.?

I know that my power bill isn't $372 a month and has never been. This company is and has always been fraudulent and gets away with it.
I wany to know who your're paying, Alabama Power on the side, because you charge customer's as you please and no one say a word!
Alabama Power is a scammer that takes advantage of people in anyway possible because they know that they can gey away with it.

High rates, aged infrastructure, solar fees

Among the highest rates in the nation. Power randomly goes out for hours because of a tree limb from a mild breeze, dilapidated aging infrastructure. The lineman and other on the ground workers are outstanding and work hard to restore power. Unfortunately, Alabama Power has Southern Company's shareholders to answer to and is in the business to make profit. You have to pay a $20+ monthly fee to have solar panels and stay on their grid. They have great people working for them and this is not on them. Corporate greed disguised as public service.

It's a lot like gambling the kind of service you get.

Dealing with Alabama Power is like gambling against the house in Vegas, they've got way more power about how it all goes or you could get a "random" win and get faster service.

I got on, for what could be called "a 30 second question" and, after 35 mins of waiting i just hung the phone up.

Before i've gotten in, relatively quick, and gotten an answer with a 5 min wait time as a minimum.

And, really, it's not the fault of the individuals, it's how Alabama powers call system is structured. 5 mins of dealing with an automated call system whenm, really, all you want to do is get a person to answer a simple question.

This is more a sign of the times with a lack of customer service and all the masses they deal with. I could blame it on bad hardware (and there are times i would be right) but it's not always that way.

Sometimes people just "waste" Al Power's time calling in to argue about a bill when they don't understand how it works and, other times, they're absolutely right that they've been over-billed.

Like i said, it's random and that's because it's gotten so big and they just have let some things get out of control.

As far as the "people", i've delt with plent of them and they're great in my book. They only get a little snippy when others outright "attack" them.

All in all, Al Power is mediocre at best with their support experience because they've got a large mass to deal with and sometimes not enough people to cover it.

"Why" Trustpilot even has the "Let them know" checkbox is beyond me. All you get, at best, is a "Generic" apology and then nothing will EVER (EVER) be changed.

Again, they're just too big.
