We tried to exchange a pair of jeans
We tried to exchange a pair of jeans, never worn only tried on, but since the tags were removed from them YET still in the bag with the receipt ,AE refused aa exchange but offered to give us a $10 store credit. They are $50 dollar jeans new we wanted and exchange for a different fit. I called customer service but they were hard to understand but still refused to help with an exchange. Will never buy from there again. IF that is AEs policy then they need to train the employees to tell people this when they purchase an item that way the customer is aware of the terrible policy. We told everyone we saw walking in the store they need to be careful about buying from there and if they bought something be sure and NOT remove the tags and to be 100% sure they like the item and that it fits because even if it's a gift to someone you're screwed on a refund or exchange once the tags are cut off.
LIARS
Their customer service is poorly trained. They makes promises they don't keep and after years of spending thousands I'm done with their crap. I just put in an order with Urban Outfitters and Hollister! AE is getting kicked to the curb!
HORRIBLE Customer “Service”
I bought a white bikini with pink trim on sale for around $10 and the first time I washed it, it came out with pink stains all over the white part! I sprayed it with stain removal, and washed it again, still stained. I kept this process up over several washes until this past weekend when the pink trim stained two additional clothing items (dumb to wash it with other clothes I now realize, but water is expensive). I reached out to American Eagle only to be told “after careful review, we regret to inform you that we are unable to grant an exception to our return policy.” I have been a LOYAL AE customer for over 20 years and have NEVER attempted to get “something for nothing” from them! If I was attempting to con them, I think I’d try to get more than $10!!! Not to mention the ruined clothing thanks to this shoddy product!! Absolutely insane that they would treat a formerly loyal customer like this!!
Absolute amateurs.
Absolute amateurs.
Don't pay via PayPal. I recently ordered 2 pairs of Jeans and 1 shirt. I paid £125 as the initial authorisation however upon despatch there was 1 pair of jeans not in stock and as such the charged amount was reduced to £75.
American Eagle near 4 weeks later have not reduced the authorisation from £125 to £75 and £50 has been stuck.
After 3 weeks of back and forth and needing to raise as a complaint to PayPal, I have been told this is an issue down to American Eagle as they did not reduce the Authorisation.
The Authorisation will cancel itself it the next few days but American Eagle are the worst.. for a company as big as they are, they are horrible at finance.

My favorite pieces are their fitted jeans and their tank top. Everything has been good quality, the fit and been comfortable wearing it.

I love the clothes but when the delivery date comes and goes because the order is still processing. The processing part can take a week or over. This happens every online order I make Going to have to go back to Hollister for my daughter
Never shop with American Eagle
I placed an order and did not receive the item I ordered. I received an incorrect item which had someone else’s name and address contained on the receipt inside (serious GDPR breach) - someone may also have my name and address if my order was sent incorrectly to someone else.
I had to return the item and wait for a refund, they would not provide an exchange for the item I actually ordered. Plus the refund appears to be minus the shipping cost (£10) which is ridiculous considering I didn’t ever receive the item I ordered - I would understand the shipping not being refunded in normal return circumstances such as the item doesn’t fit or if I didn’t want it anymore.
Unfortunately their customer service was unhelpful and I will not be ordering from this business again.
Absolutely horrible company to do…
Absolutely horrible company to do business with. Bought a pair of jeans, had to return based on sizing fit. They've had them back just over 3-months now. I've still not received an email acknowledging my return, my refund, or any communication. Just WOW! Guess it's a good thing their jeans are only $30-$40 on average. Cheap, like their service and ethics in how they're doing business. Stay far, far AWAY from them. Look at the rest of their reviews too, seems almost everyone is unhappy with them as well.
I recently encountered a frustrating…
I recently encountered a frustrating issue with American Eagle's customer service regarding a return for a pair of jeans from an online order. While trying on the jeans in a careful and normal manner, one of the paper tags accidentally ripped off. Importantly, the sewn-on waistband tag and the sticker tag remained fully intact, and the jeans were in pristine, unworn condition—clearly suitable for resale.
Understanding that returns typically require all tags to be attached, I reached out to customer service to explain the situation and request a one-time exception. This seemed like a reasonable ask, given the circumstances were beyond my control and did not compromise the item's quality or integrity. However, my initial request was denied, citing the return policy without further consideration.
I reengaged on the matter, reiterating the details and emphasizing that denying the return felt unfair, as it forced me to keep an ill-fitting item through no fault of my own. They responded by simply restating the policy, offering no flexibility. I then requested escalation to a manager, highlighting how this aligned with good-faith customer service practices. Unfortunately, in reply to this request, they simply informed me that after careful review, no exception could be granted, again prioritizing strict policy adherence over customer satisfaction.
I am deeply disappointed by these repeated denials, which demonstrate a rigid and unempathetic approach to what was a genuine and minor issue. As a long-time customer, I expected better from American Eagle, especially when the item was undeniably in unworn, resalable condition. This bad-faith enforcement of the policy has eroded my trust in the brand and makes me hesitant to shop here in the future. I hope the brand reviews this case and reconsiders their stance, as accommodating reasonable exceptions like this would go a long way toward maintaining customer loyalty.
Dumb ass company has gone woke
Dumb ass company has gone woke! Wouldn’t be buying their shite anymore!
Not for me, used to be good 15+ years ago…
Sadly Hollister have stopped making the kind of jeans that I like so I resorted to American Eagle UK, however, that was not a smart move.
American Eagle used to be amazing (15 years+ ago, yes you had to pay customs but that was it and the quality of all the items were amazing). Now, the delivery takes forever and you have to pay for the returns (about £3) and even once received in their warehouse, it can take another 10 business days to get a confirmation of a refund - which I am still waiting for as it’s “only” been 8 business days….
I think that way of returning items and running a business isn’t viable anymore and it will die out.
Their customer service just repeat themselves and there is no actual support offered. It’s not a business I want to be using again and unless you are an extremely patient person and you enjoy their items, I would suggest to avoid. Fingers crossed Hollister brings back the items I need because I am not cut out for some mom jeans or flares….
Delayed 5 days and I had to pay return
Delayed 5 days the delivery and I wasn't in Germany anymore and had to return and had to pay the 3 euro fee anyways because support said it's not their problem and didn't issue the label for free. Honestly the bad reviews here make sense and it's a pity that the Europe branch of AE is 100x worse than the USA one. Would not recommend and would not buy again - other north american brands like Hollister and Abercrombie do a much better job in Europe.
They don’t stand behind their products.
I washed something one time and it fell apart. You’re just stuck with it to throw in the trash. They won’t give you your money back or do an exchange, even though I had just bought it.
NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN
NEVER SHOPPING HERE AGAIN. ORDERED SOMETHING FROM THERE ONLINE STORE AND THEY SAID THE PACKAGE HAD SHIPPED BUT ABSOULTLY NO UPDATE SINCE THE 10TH AND THEY TOOK MY MONEY AND TOLD ME I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE 24TH FOR A REFUND THEY SAID THEY STILL MIGHT SEND IT. TO BAD I REALLY LIKE THERE PANTS, GUESS ILL JUST LOOK AT THE THRIFT STORES FOR THEM AGAIN CAUSE THATS WHERE I FOUND THEM THE FIRST PLACE.

I placed an order on 8/10/2025 and was sent a notification that my items where shipped 2 day with FEDEX. Today I am told they have no idea where or when the package will be actually sent but in 7 more days they will investigate it.
Just my 2 cents
Although not a big jeans wearer, i do own a few pairs of Japanese denim and as someone who has never found the right fit in Levis i decided to try American Eagle.
Seeing all these bad reviews i felt it was only fair to share my experience which was completely positive.
The jeans arrived on time and the slim fit were a perfect and comfortable fit without feeling tight. The denim was soft and flexible. So for me AE are 10/10
No comment regarding their advert and i am completely against any form of racism.
I don't believe a company this large which probably employs all races is racist either.
Yuck
Yuck. As a white woman, I’ll never buy from them again and will unfortunately be too embarrassed to ever wear my AE jeans again too! The recent advertisement of Sydney Sweeney looks as if it was conceived in a room full of old perverted white men. I don’t know where the funny side to racism is but I know I didn’t see it. And then for them to use women’s jealousy as the reason.. buddy we got at least three girls working at maccas right down the road that look 100 times better than her, it’s not that.. it’s the white supremacy, smh.

Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans!
Great quality at an affordable price
I love that AE carries larger sizes. My favorite pieces are their oversized beach button down shirts and their tank tops.
