Inexperienced vets

I found the veterinary care here to be extremely disappointing.

I booked my dog in because she had suddenly lost weight. When I arrived, I was unexpectedly told that I would have to see the emergency vet instead. There was no explanation that made much sense, and it felt very disorganised.

Unfortunately, my experience with the emergency vet did little to reassure me. My dog is a large breed but is incredibly gentle. The vet appeared reluctant to examine her properly and seemed genuinely uncomfortable handling her, which left me questioning whether she even had been able to carry out a thorough assessment.

What confused me most was the advice I received. I was told my dog was in “excellent” condition and that there was nothing to worry about, yet the recommendations that followed felt contradictory and didn’t add up.

A few days later, after following the vet’s advice and changing my dog’s food, she stopped eating altogether. I called the practice, explained that I was worried and frustrated, and simply asked whether there was an alternative food they would recommend. Rather than discussing the issue or reviewing the advice already given, I was told to bring her back in for blood tests—even though I had previously been told these weren’t necessary.

Since changing her food, my dog has also developed diarrhoea. Instead of helping me address what appears to be a direct consequence of the advice I was given, the only solution offered was another appointment and further tests. It felt as though the focus was on generating another consultation rather than providing practical advice or continuity of care.

The only positive part of my experience was the reception team. They were friendly, polite and genuinely helpful throughout, and I suspect they end up dealing with much of the frustration caused by the service elsewhere in the practice.

Truly Awful

Our recent experience with Acorn Vet Centre Studley, part of CVS Group has been absolutely awful. When we raised our concerns with them, we found their responses both dismissive and offensive. Acorn has some good reviews, so maybe we were just unlucky, but we would certainly never trust the care of any animal to Acorn, CVS Group or anybody associated with them ever again. One star (the minimum score) is two stars too many for these people. Truly awful!
