Disgusting. Automatically ‘renewed’ at double the price for something I’ve not found a use for. Didn’t even set up an account until I clicked on the invoice, so can’t see how anyone could cancel this.... See more

Not a very stable platform

I've been learning this program for a while now. It has a very steep learning curve, which isn't a problem in and of itself other than it may be over complicated for some uses (Game Planning). As if the learning curve wasn't rough enough - the servers have been running extremely slow, and even going offline at regular points. Usually when I have a deadline or right before a game. I've tried to reach out to support and they basically just said, we know, it's being worked on, yet weeks and weeks of it continues.

There is supposed to be a way to increase font size, I needed to do that, so I delved in only to find that it doesn't work on the "Player Handout" page. Not a single mention of this in the CODEX that would have saved me hours of wasted effort. When asked about - I was told that's how we want it to work. Ummm OK??

A Great Tool Backed by even Greater People

I've been a paying World Anvil user for about 2 years now. This website is such a game changer. Not only can you organize even the tiniest of details regarding your world, but so can your friends that you add as co-authors. All of the formatting is so neat and clean, your published work on their site looks so professional and well done.
Their customer service reps are also commendable. They're so knowledgeable about this service, they're kind and understanding. When I was experiencing some money troubles, Maddie was able to provide a solution. I know that as soon as I can afford my membership again, I will be repurchasing it so I can continue my financial support of this amazing company and resource. You guys are awesome.

WorldAnvil is a great site

WorldAnvil is a great site! With lots of informative videos/tutorials, a great interface, easy to understand mechanics and astounding value for money, there is no finer company when it comes to customer interaction or support. Most recently, when I needed support in an issue, Maddie was incredibly polite and helpful. Nothing but good things to say about my experience with them!

An excellent set of tools, made by people who care

WorldAnvil has a ton of tools for any kind of creator, whether they're a writer, game designer, or a GM for a tabletop RPG. Beyond that, their team actually cares about the people in their community in a way that feels shockingly rare for any company.

Their prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the service they provide, and I'm looking forward to upgrading to a higher tier as soon as I can afford it.

I love World Anvil

I love World Anvil, and now I can say that the support team is stellar as well. They took my concerns seriously, and very quickly gave me a solution to an issue that many companies would have just shrugged off. Thanks for such an awesome experience!

Multiple Concerns; One Email Exchange

For a while I've had growing concerns about World Anvil's bias in favor of tabletop gamers marginalizing my experience as just a writer in need of a worldbuilding wiki. Then recently, World Anvil streaming one of their TTRPG Twitch streams from *my* WA site (from every page with their footer) was cause for distress. It lagged the site and bogged it down so much that editing became extremely difficult. As a paying customer, I felt the embedded stream was terribly intrusive.

I've also had an ongoing issue with WA's pop up sign up interfering with my readership, many of whom have no use for a WA membership and won't sign up.

The two ladies I was gifted to address my concerns this past week were attentive and responded promptly. I was assured that, although it might take a couple of days, they were working to get the answers I needed. Then within that time frame, they (and the whole WA team?) surpassed my expectations. I was also assured I'd be able to control whether or not I could opt out of the live streams from my site's pages, that they wouldn't be frequent occurrences, and that WA would be certain to keep lag from interfering as much as possible.

When I asked for them to approach the devs about toning down that pushy little pop up, well... they removed it completely from the paid Grandmaster tier account. Removed. Not just moved. So now my friends and family don't have to click it off with every single page when they navigate through my articles.

I mean, how do you *not* give that kind of service the highest possible rating? It's the first time in my 2.25 years as a customer that I've even felt the need to contact customer support and this is how they respond? Should I expect World Anvil to hand me everything I need or want on a silver platter? Probably not, but if this proves anything, it's that, as a customer, I'm at least *heard*. I can trust that my issues will be addressed fairly and not just dismissed.

It matters, and I am deeply appreciative of those two ladies and the whole of the World Anvil team.

I love the customer support!!! They are very fast, helpful, and effective in providing the support I need! Specifically, they responded to me about an issue in less than 12 hours and provided the exact information and link that helped me fix the issue in less than fifteen seconds.

So Many Creative Uses and Amazing Support!

I had, through fault of my own, two accounts: one for ME and another for a community I worked with. Ioanna helped me understand the price differences, the discounts I was being offered, and wrapped it into a single amazing package. Great support!

Right now, our LARP of 120 Players is loving creating the world and making it more accessible on World Anvil over a pdf. It's been a great experience all around.

Could be better, not for me

Could be good, but I had to cancel my subscription as so many things that needed some more clarity for someone new to the platform. Tooltips on more areas would really help, and there needs to be less reliance on people's assumed knowledge of CSS with more themes available for subscribers as the ones on there are a bit hit-and-miss, and so many areas seem like bugs but when reported, rather than improving or clarifying the issue within the platform, the dev team just go "not a bug" and then seem to ignore it - they're not very helpful. For example, nowhere does it explain that when you quick-edit an article on the recently updated articles page, you need to click and highlight an article for it to recognise progress and save. I lost a lot of work, and dev response is just "you need to click it for it to save". Why? Whilst not considered by them as a bug, this is bug-like behaviour as at least one person had issue with it, and should be at least considered to clarify. This attitude needs to change and if subscribers are finding something unclear, you should be trying to clarify it, not ignore it. As a result I don't feel listened to as a subscriber I'm afraid :(
Discord as a support platform is an interesting choice but I feel a bit embarrassed sometimes when I have to ask for support in full view of everyone else. But that's more of a me-problem :)
I've got nearly a year left on my sub and kind of regretting it a little. Please don't take any of this personally, I am trying to be constructive and I really really want to like this platform. If it improved I'd definitely stay, and I'm going to try to use it in the meantime in the face of my difficulties so far but I won't be contacting the discord support or using the bug reporting as it doesn't seem to get me anywhere.

World Anvil. Good Product. Good service.

The Product: Good tools for a variety of creative outlets that were leaps and bounds more usable than when I was trying to organize OneNote and physical notebooks. Also nice to share information with others (players, proofreaders, etc.).

The Company: What can I say other than that they're responsive, professional, and never feel like they're trying to intrusive. You don't have to worry about email spam or troublesome cancellation flows if you need to take a break from their service.

Terrible

Terrible, absolutely terrible. I'll admit, I've been doing the subscription since I think '21 in hopes that my ADHD would allow me to write and get back into building the world I had started ages ago and wanted a website for to better share it with the person I was building it for.

However, I just got a bill for 110 bucks. Double what was charged last time because, apparently, discounts only apply once despite the fact the the sub is auto-renew. Feel like if you get a discount it should stay applied for as long as you keep the sub on auto-renew, it's really only fair. I know other businesses do the same, for example, Jagex has done discounts for subscriptions over the years and in theirs as long as your sub stays active you continue to get the discount. It's quite nice.

What really gets my goat is the fact that there's zero warning of an impending renewal. Despite my best efforts I never even really got around to *using* the website last year, I don't think I added anything to my project at all last year, in fact! Though if I did it was, at latest, just a couple of days around the time of renewal.

So this basically means I get charged a year's subscription for a product I didn't, haven't been, and likely won't be using all because the owners are terrible people and enjoy scamming others and then hide behind their claim that there isn't a law that requires them to give refunds or inform people of massive impending charges.

I'm not even going to bother trying to contact them for a refund, I've seen how they talk to customers on their website that just want to pitch ideas in their section of the site dedicated to doing such, I don't need the crass harassment I've seen other people who wanted a refund receive. I cancelled my subscription properly this time, though not really because I want to, just because it's obvious my brain will never let me get back into doing this thing I love. Still, I've seen people that have had issues with the cancellation, so I'm hoping they don't charge me again next year. At least I have the e-mail saying I cancelled and I'm keeping it safe.

Overall, while the concept is great and the tools work decently, the people actually behind the website are pretty terrible. I'd suggest looking elsewhere if you're in the market for something like this. I have to admit, I really wasn't ready for a 110 dollar charge. I wish I could get a refund but they hide behind their policy of customer disservice so providing yet another warning about these people and the way they bill for this service is all I can do for the moment. Their practices are pretty scummy and I have a funny feeling they aren't being at all honest about not being required to offer refunds or reminders.

An essential tool for worldbuilding

As a multi-media publisher creating an original fantasy world, we really needed a central resource for our team of artists, writers, and game designers. World Anvil has been the perfect solution for us and I'm so happy we found it. Its features are easy-to-use and allow for a ton of flexibility and creativity (especially the interactive maps!). We're able to publish information and artwork publicly for the world to see, while also keeping spoilers and secret tidbits hidden and only visible to us. The World Anvil team has also been super helpful whenever we have questions or issues and they are constantly rolling out new features and have a super active discord community.
