Reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently praise the staff for being friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, making interactions pleasant and efficient. Many people highlight the exceptional service, noting the clear communication, smooth processes, and overall ease of working with the company. Reviewers also frequently mention the prompt and fair payment, which is a significant positive for many. However, some people expressed dissatisfaction with the demo moderation process, finding the feedback vague and the submission requirements for voice artists to be overly strict and template-based. These reviewers felt the platform's focus on polished submissions before proper acceptance was conceptually off, and questioned the transparency regarding how many registered talents secure paid work.

When polish matters more than the artist

Title:
Too much emphasis on polish, not enough on the actual artist

Review:
Hello,

I want to leave some honest and constructive feedback about my experience with Voquent’s demo moderation process.

To be clear, I am not against quality standards. I fully understand the need for a good microphone, a clean recording environment, solid mic technique, and professional basics. That part is completely reasonable.

What feels wrong to me is something else: the impression that a voice artist is expected to sound almost like a finished production company before even being properly accepted on the platform.

From my perspective as an artist and performer, that feels conceptually off. A client should first be able to hear the real voice, the tone, texture, control, interpretation, and personality of the speaker. That is the real instrument. At that stage, the client is not choosing a final polished product. They are choosing a voice and a performer with whom they will later create a final product according to their own technical and artistic standards.

That is why I find this approach problematic. There is a big difference between presenting a voice professionally and presenting it in a way that is already overly processed and manufactured. A clean recording is one thing. A heavily polished presentation standard is another.

That is exactly where the contradiction lies: if the client is supposedly listening for tone, character, emotional truth, and vocal identity, then what should be evaluated is the naked core of the voice itself, not some inflated, over-packaged substitute for a finished product. If I were selling myself as a studio or production provider, that would make sense. Then a client would quite rightly evaluate the technical chain, the processing, the polish, and the before-and-after transformation. But that is not what I am presenting at the audition stage. As a voice artist, I am presenting the potential, identity, and expressive power of my voice - not a pre-manufactured production product.

I also found the moderation feedback frustratingly vague. My demo was rejected three times, and despite making corrections, I kept receiving broad, generic guidance instead of precise, file-specific feedback. If the actual issue is breath noise, mouth noise, sibilance, plosives, mic distance, or something else, then that should be stated clearly. Otherwise, it is impossible to know what exactly needs to be improved.

This is especially disappointing because repeated generic rejections do not feel constructive. They make the process feel template-based rather than genuinely tailored to the submitted file.

Another point that feels uncomfortable is the overall impression created when strict moderation standards are combined with paid services for polishing, improving, verifying, or increasing visibility. I am not claiming bad intent, but it does create the feeling that artists are being pushed away from presenting their raw craft and toward a more market-shaped, paid version of themselves.

For established talents with polished studio chains and strong editing skills, this model may work well. But what about artists with genuine talent and strong raw ability who do not see themselves as mini production houses? A platform should not quietly reward cosmetic packaging more than artistic substance.

My criticism is not against professionalism. It is against a model that seems to blur the line between artist and production provider in a way that feels unbalanced.

For a platform that seems deeply concerned with every tiny detail of polish, editing, and sonic perfection, the insistence on compressed MP3/MP4 submissions is a curious choice. It makes one wonder whether the real priority is audio integrity, or simply the appearance of professionalism lol

In my opinion, a more coherent approach would be this: let artists provide the best clean raw material they can, and let the production side come after.

For me, the stronger principle is simple:

Let the client hear the artist first.
Let production come after.

Daniel

UPDATE:

Voquent has now posted a public response.

My criticism was never that professional standards should not exist. My concern is that the platform relies on large topline numbers while avoiding the more relevant question for voice artists: how many registered talents actually secure paid work, and how many do so regularly?

Without that transparency, big cumulative figures say more about scale than about real opportunity.

My point also remains that there is a difference between evaluating a voice artist and evaluating a pre-packaged production product.

That distinction still matters, and their public response has not changed it.

Reply from Voquent.com

While we generally prefer to resolve concerns through direct dialogue, the reviewer has declined to respond to our private outreach. We are therefore providing this context for the benefit of the Voquent community and any prospective partners reading this review.

To be clear: the reviewer is neither a customer nor a supplier. He registered a free account and submitted audio demos that failed to meet our established Quality Control standards. Upon receiving this feedback, he chose to delete his account and leave this review rather than implement the technical adjustments suggested by our engineering team.

We are committed to our audio standards. Voquent serves over 8,000 global clients who rely on us for professional-grade audio. To maintain this trust, our moderation team—which has vetted over 140,000 demos since 2019—upholds a consistent technical baseline.

The reviewer suggests that "artistic substance" is being sacrificed for "polish." In reality, the modern voiceover industry is built on remote recording. A talent’s ability to provide clean audio—free from excessive room reverberation, mouth noise, and sibilance—is a fundamental requirement, not an optional "cosmetic" extra. Over 39,000 professional voice artists have successfully met these standards on our platform over the last six years.

We’d also want to address a specific misconception. There is a suggestion in the review that our moderation standards are designed to "push" artists toward paid services. This is factually incorrect. Voquent does NOT offer demo editing or "polishing" services for those who fail moderation. We do offer an optional studio verification service for those seeking detailed engineering feedback but it is never a requirement for representation or for securing work.

Furthermore, the reviewer questioned our use of compressed formats (MP3/MP4) for profile previews. This is a standard industry practice to ensure a responsive, high-speed search experience for casting directors. It has no bearing on the quality of the final masters delivered to clients, but it has everything to do with providing a professional user interface.

We hope this provides some context for readers.

Voquent is a platform for professionals and those ready to meet professional delivery standards. While there are many sites that host unedited, raw audio without a vetting process, we have chosen a different path to ensure our clients receive the highest quality results.

We provided the reviewer with clear guidance on how to rectify minor issues regarding his recording environment and editing process. We regret that he views these professional requirements as a barrier rather than a standard of the trade. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.

Breaking the mould!

The team at Voquent are a pleasure to deal with and are extraordinary in how quickly they pay. As a self employed voice Artist I’m used to having to chase payments from clients. Not so with Voquent! I did the job and got paid almost immediately! And I’m certain they did a great job with the end client also. Highly recommend for both voice artists and businesses looking for voiceovers.

A pleasure working with VOQUENT!

As a voice over artist with over a decade of experience in the industry, I can confidently say that my experience with Voquent has been one of the best I’ve had. Their team is thorough, professional, and genuinely attentive at every stage of the process—from casting to communication and delivery.

They truly respect both the talent and the client, which is not always a given in this industry. Everything is handled with clarity, efficiency, and a high level of professionalism. All in all, Voquent is one of the best voice over services I’ve ever worked with, and I highly recommend them to both artists and clients alike. I really hope to work with them a lot in the near future! 5 STARS!

The best customer experience

I've used Voquent a number of times, and the experience has always been smooth, efficient and easy, and we've always got what we needed. However, the real test of an experience is when you get a bump in the road, and our latest VO wasn't quite hitting the mark. It does feel difficult to give constructive criticism, but Kevin and John at the team encouraged it, worked with the VO artist Helen, and helped us to get to exactly where we wanted to be. I actually think this makes the experience better as I know I can trust them to listen, understand and work hard to get a cracking result. Helen, the VO, did an amazing job taking the feedback and delivering on point. An incredible customer experience for me.
