I ordered clothes from veyraille.com and two days later a man from my bank's fraud department called to report fraud. Let's start with the fact that WHEN MY BANK'S FRAUD DEPARTMENT CALLS IT IS A MACHINE!
Spoof calling is when the hacker uses an app or a piece of hardware to falsify their caller ID and phone number. It's one of the most common methods used to target and steal personal information.
The man had me log into my mobile account, then after some round and round, he asked me to verify my balances so that "I did not have to go through the investigation process." I told him he should already know my balances and that I was going to hang up and call back. He said that all i had to do was do a Google search of the phone number he was calling from. I knew he was full of bull already, especially because my bank's fraud number starts with 888, not a local area code.
RIGHT AFTER I hung up and while on hold with my bank, the first $841 fraud charge hit my account. Then I started getting fraud text alerts from my REAL bank fraud department for Facebook marketplace attempts.
