I had a very disappointing experience with Varsity Tutors. I was charged approximately $350 more than the amount I originally agreed to pay. When I questioned the charges, I was first told the extra cost was related to the type of tutor I selected. I asked for a detailed breakdown of the charges, and they said someone would call me back. That call never happened.
When I followed up again, I was given a completely different explanation. This time, they claimed the additional charges were because the tutor's sessions had gone over the allotted time. To verify this, I contacted the tutor directly and requested the session records. Not a single session had gone over the scheduled time.
After multiple phone calls and receiving different answers each time, I eventually gave up trying to get a straight explanation. In my opinion, this is not how a reputable company should operate. The inconsistent responses and lack of transparency were extremely frustrating.
The only positive part of my experience was the tutor herself. She was absolutely amazing and provided exceptional support. In fact, we ended up hiring her independently after she left the company. She told us that we were not the only family that had experienced these kinds of billing issues, and it seemed the company often placed the blame on the tutors.
If you're considering Varsity Tutors, I would strongly recommend carefully reviewing your billing statements and keeping detailed records of all communications. My experience left me feeling overcharged, ignored, and disappointed.

I did not learn anything. The tutor spent too much time telling me I was “doing it wrong”. She told me that people who are my age don’t really understand computers. I ended the session when she said that.

Save your money and look elsewhere. Working with Varsity Tutors has been an exercise in absolute frustration, and the entire experience felt like an expensive waste of time.
From the start, scheduling was a complete logistical nightmare. The assigned tutor was virtually never available at our agreed-upon times and constantly pushed to reschedule for slots that made zero sense for our household. Instead of reliable academic support, we spent half our time managing endless rescheduling requests and playing calendar tag.
When sessions actually took place, the instruction was shockingly poor. The lessons felt completely uninspired, lazily thrown together at the last minute, and entirely devoid of any tailored curriculum or thoughtful preparation. There was no real effort to engage, evaluate progress, or deliver meaningful instruction—just someone going through the motions to run out the clock.
Varsity Tutors charges premium, top-of-the-market rates, but what you actually receive is substandard, disjointed, and ineffective. For the exorbitant prices they demand, you expect professionalism, consistency, and noticeable results. Instead, you get low-effort tutoring behind a glossy sales pitch. Do not waste your budget here.

I joined Varsity to learn Italian and was paired with Matthew and after two sessions I think we are doing well.
