Best city break I've ever had was in Istanbul - in no small part thanks to the guys at Ulidays! How so, you ask? I'll try to summerise it as best as I can:
Istanbul is an exceptionally beautiful city that pulsates with a type of magnetic energy that can be found nowhere else in the world... but it's also massive, confusing, not easy to navigate... However, these guys know the city inside-out, and they made it easy for me to "understand" this complex, multi-layered city. So within no time I was able to grasp the city's layout & its public transport system, and make my way around the city with ease, just like a local! Furthermore: beyond them knowing where all the best places are & having offered me a plethora of interesting things to do & see, they also warned me about some of the not-so-good places & potential "red flag" behaviours I may come across during my stay, which made it easy for me to avoid tourist traps & scamsters.
Having said that, I want to make it very clear that most (almost all) Turks are trustworthy, friendly, helpful & wonderfully hospitable people, and Istanbul is, on the whole, very safe - much safer than European cities such as Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and even tiny little Dublin where I live - so don't miss out on this magical, one-of-a kind city straddling two continents because you heard somewhere that it's not safe... that simply is not true!!! However, if you do have plans to go to Istanbul, I strongly advise you to get in touch with Ulidays - and you'll be glad you did(!) - because just the sheer size of the city & the myriad of options it presents to you can be overwhelming, and it's best to let these pros take some of the pressure off by giving you some guidance and helping you out with some of the planning & selecting... and of course getting all those invaluable insider's tips doesn't hurt either!
Such as where to eat - Istanbul is heaven for foodies IF you know which restaurants to go to(!) and the guys really know the best of the best(!) - and what to see & which districts to explore, depending on your interests (and there are many, many districts in Istanbul(!), so it's nice to get some help in picking & choosing), and of course how to get to these places... and if you're in the mood to go out some nights, having some fun but safe nightlife options - again, depending on your interests - is great to have in a strange city you don't know very well: I, for one, am into live music, so they recommended that I go see a jazz improv band at a club in the entertainment district of Kadikoy, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable live gigs I've been to in recent memory. The band was excellent, the club was atmospheric, and not insignificantly, if was fairly easy to get home from there: Kadikoy is on the Asian side of the city, by the Marmara Sea in the Far South, while my accommodation was in Levent, a centrally located district on the European side - so these are two spots that are quite far & seemingly isolated from one another - and had I just "studied" the city's public transport system on my own for God knows how long, I don't think I would've been able to figure out the quick and easy route that they suggested for me without even a second's thought - these guys have the map of the whole city in their heads!
Final thought: don't hesitate - go to Istanbul!!! There is nothing like walking along the glistening Bosphorus Seaway in the warm sunshine & taking in the majestic views, and exploring the smattering of historic "villages" (small districts), fortresses and other sights that dot both the European & Asian side of this fabled waterway - I believe everyone must see this place at least once in a lifetime, and it's best to let Ulidays take the wheel and steer you there. :)
