Horrendous website. Good luck trying to cancel :/
The collar seems to work in most areas, although if you don't have great cell service it won't work (and unfortunately I hike in more remote areas so for me it's useless). The WORST part of the Fi experience is trying to cancel membership. Their website is HORRENDOUS and it's impossible to get results from their online chat. I was charged a renewal even though I had requested multiple times that it not renew. Now I'm trying to get a refund and I just don't want to waste my life dealing with a terrible web platform and less-than-satisfactory customer service.
Good collar horrible customer support

Fi Collar Failed Me When My Dog Was Actually Lost – App & Support Are Deeply Flawed I’ve been a Fi collar subscriber for years and have generally appreciated the daily peace of mind it provides. The app reliably notifies me every single time my dog leaves his “safe zone” and again when he returns. The tracking works well enough for routine monitoring. Unfortunately, when it mattered most — when my dog actually got lost — the entire system failed me completely, revealing serious design and support shortcomings. My dog escaped one afternoon. Naturally, I opened the Fi app on my phone (the same device and account I’ve used without issue for years) expecting quick access to his location. Instead, the app forced me into what felt like a completely new setup process. It prompted me to go through the entire onboarding flow again, including re-uploading a picture of my dog and re-entering profile details. At the exact moment I needed immediate access to live tracking or Lost Mode, I was locked out and wasting precious minutes reconfiguring an account that already existed. This is especially frustrating because the collar itself continued to function in the background — sending me the usual “out of safe zone” and “returned” notifications throughout the ordeal. The hardware was technically tracking him, yet the app’s login barrier made the system useless precisely when every second counted. Desperate for help, I contacted Fi support. What I encountered was essentially an AI chatbot that provided no meaningful assistance. It took significant effort and persistence just to convince the bot to escalate my request to a human. Once it finally did, the system simply forwarded my ticket without resolution. Two days later, I received an email response. Rather than addressing any of the specific issues I had clearly described — the forced full setup, the login barrier during an emergency, or the uselessness of the app at a critical time — the email simply asked about the condition of my dog. It felt like a generic, scripted reply that completely ignored everything I had already explained. This experience has badly damaged my trust in Fi. The collar excels at routine safe-zone alerts, but in a genuine lost-dog emergency, the app’s insistence on re-setup created an unnecessary and potentially dangerous obstacle. Meanwhile, customer support appears to be heavily automated and ineffective, with human escalation that delivers little more than polite deflection. I rely on this product for my dog’s safety, and it let me down when it mattered most. For a GPS tracking collar marketed as a reliable lifeline, the combination of a clunky app experience and unresponsive support is unacceptable. I hope Fi invests seriously in fixing the login flow for existing users and improves their support system so that real emergencies are handled with the urgency and competence they deserve. If you’re considering a Fi collar, be aware that while the daily tracking is convenient, its performance under actual stress may not match the marketing.
Bad product, bad customer service
I purchased the Fi Mini for my dog. The attachment is incredibly flimsy (rubber) and did not stand up to normal dog activities. It broke and the Fi fell out when my dog was playing in the yard. She chewed it up and thank goodness didn’t swallow it or parts of it. Fi was condescending and difficult to communicate with. They acted like they were doing me a favor by replacing it - one year warranty. Saying they do not typically cover replacement when a dog chews it up. I’m sorry, my dog wouldn’t have had access to it if the rubber attachment wasn’t such a piece of junk. Also, as far as the tracking goes it is less than stellar. When I take my dog on a walk, the app doesn’t alert me that we have left our designated area until we are over a block away from home. What good is that? Bad product, bad customer service.
Good Product, Poor Customer Support
I’ve used the Fi Smart Dog Collar and overall the product worked fine, but my experience with their customer support has been really disappointing.
I recently lost my dog, Ryleigh, and had an active subscription that renewed in January for 6 months. I reached out to ask about a refund for the unused portion of the subscription, and they refused.
I understand companies have policies, but this felt like a situation where compassion and flexibility would have gone a long way. Losing a pet is incredibly difficult, and a partial refund for unused time would have been the right thing to do.
Because of this experience, I would hesitate to recommend Fi—not because of the collar itself, but because of how situations like this are handled.
Highly dislike my Fi mini - crazy disappointing!
Highly dislike my Fi mini. The tracking is wildly inaccurate showing me walking through houses cutting walks in half of what they really are and the steps and distance is way off as well! Battery doesn't even last a week now! I paid for 6 months and not even 2 months later the battery barely lasts 4 days! I get false alarms CONSTANTLY! I'm tired of answering how the 'alert' was wrong because it clearly can't learn! I will NOT be paying for another 6 months and this thing will go in the garbage.
Collars are poor quality
Collars are poor quality. Silicone rips easily. I had small puppies and they still fell apart. Haven’t used the collar in 3 months (one is somewhere in the yard lost and the other can’t attach to the collar because silicone holder is ripped). Cant cancel membership because they require 6months so I pay monthly for 2 dogs for nothing. Dont waste your money. Customer service is awful. Collars were delayed anyway and not accurate.
Don't use if your a breeder!
If you are a breeder who prefers to keep microchips in your name for the safety of the dog, avoid Fi Nano at all costs! Their site says that they won't force a transfer but they will absolutely force it. Regrettably I have recommended them to multiple other breeders that have started using Fi and I have used them for years but after this whole situation I will not be using or recommending them anymore. They don't care about the safety of the dog or about their partners like they claim
This company and these collars are…
This company and these collars are absolute dog shit, we were looking for a collar we could use with our reactive dog, while he was being boarded and we were out of the country. We chose this collar because of the long charge time based off a one-time full charge, well don't be fooled we charged it to 100% and it didn't even make it three days before we had zero access to our dog and the company as well as the customer service does nothing but give you an AI generated bot basically tell you "too bad so sad"
Customer service is a joke
Customer service is a joke. Our collars have not held a charge for any amount of time since purchase. We have tried and tried to have FI fix it and they can’t. Customer service is a joke. Don’t purchase this product. We have three and they all have issues. We reached out to a supervisor level and got no assistance other than return it to Costco “they have a liberal return policy”. So we will.
will never use again and would not recommend to anyone
We were hiking with our dog, and he ran off. We placed the collar on lost dog mode, and had service. His location did not update for over four hours. He ran off a little after 3PM and was hit by a car at 7PM. While it is not Fi's fault that my dog ran away, I am confident that had his location been updated (within four hours!), we could have found him before the tragedy happened. For those wondering, where he was found dead had service and should have been updated. At 8PM Fi updated me on his location- at the vet where we were saying our goodbyes. The reliability of his collar from 3pm-8pm was disappointing to say the least.
Aside from this event, even going on leashed walks around our neighborhood, the tracking was inaccurate.
I will never use Fi again nor would I recommend it to anyone wanting "peace of mind".
Do not recommend due to customer service & hidden fees
I ordered the collar which I returned. Numerous things went wrong. I was charged for the supplements that came with the collar when I was told to return the collar only. I then had to recontact them and was refunded for that. During all the back and forth, no one ever told me to cancel the membership in the process. I was then charged for it and not allowed to get a refund. I do not and would not recommend this product.
Don't bother
Don't bother!
The designers of the tracker seem to have missed that the trackers are worn by dogs - dogs that chew things. The tracker is very fragile and can be crushed by even the smallest of dogs. And then there is no way to replace that tracker online! You have to go through a complex and difficult process just to find a customer service agent, who will then bargain with you in order for you to get a new one (eg, "hey, if you extend your subscription for three years, we'll send one free, but if not, it's $50 and will arrive in three weeks). There are better options out there that are better designed and better run.
Entertaining, helpful, deeply flawed
My dog has had a Fi mini for several months. It has been very entertaining to see her “stats” daily. We purchased this because she loves to run away. Today, she ran away for the first time since wearing the Fi. I was able to follow her on lost mode for quite a while. One issue was that I don’t think the GPS map is accurate over the satellite imagery. You might can get within 50 yards of your pet based on the map and your relative position, but inside of that distance it was no help. Finally, the device stopped moving and I was able to get right in the vicinity of it—but no dog. Fortunately, I heard the dog and was able to locate her about 40 yards from where I was located. After retrieving the dog, I realized her Fi had fallen out of the strap still on her collar! In the deep woods and creek where the device must have fallen off, I had no luck in locating her tracker even though it was constantly reporting a location. My disappointment in the product is the failure of the strap to retain the device with the dog and the lack of resolution of the tracker inside of 50 yards. My disappointment with customer service is a general lack of care or willingness to replace the product which cannot be located even though it is even now still reporting its “approximate” position. The device was helpful to learn the general direction and distance to my dog, but was lacking in helpfulness to complete locating her. Pairing this device with an AirTag for final location would be useful. As well as securing the tracker with gorilla tape. I have canceled service and will see what other options we can find.
Have had Fi for a couple years now and…
Have had Fi for a couple years now and Love the live gps tracking and the fact that I can monitor her health.
product review
product worked as advertise, we are able to keep track of our dog when he is outside.
Fi was wonderful in finding a solution…
Fi was wonderful in finding a solution to keeping my three dogs active for another month.
Tracking getting worse
I love the tracking, but I think the fee is too high and they have no way of disabling the social media stuff which I hate. Also, they make App changes and the don’t work.
The current app version does not track the walks nearly as accurately, actually it’s horrible now.
Exceptional Technology for Dogs
The Fi collar has been a game-changer for us. The LTE coverage works flawlessly, and I can monitor my dog’s walks, playtime, and even exercise goals easily. It feels very sturdy and well-made, and the app is simple to use. I’d highly recommend it to any dog owner who wants extra reassurance and control.
Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service. Has a 30 day return policy but continues to drag their feet on allowing me to return my products. I ordered two collars. GPS will not load, it isn’t tracking them, and I get random alerts saying my dog has left even though they are home.
I do not recommend this company or their products.
