Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 110 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently expressed deep frustration with the insurance claims process, noting prolonged delays, repeated and redundant requests for paperwork, and severe difficulties receiving their rightful payouts. Many people also reported exceptionally poor customer service, mentioning unhelpful representatives, unanswered emails, and long waiting times when trying to get updates. The minority of people were satisfied with the efficient handling of their claims once all required documents were properly submitted. These reviewers appreciated the genuinely helpful support and surprisingly quick payouts they received for their unexpected medical issues or travel disruptions.

Failings from Day One

Paid for a policy on the 10/10/24 and still no response until I phoned them today the 18/10/24. They said they got my email address wrong (but wouldn't this have flagged up?) When I tried to register it said I was already registered (which I wasn't) .I eventually phoned them (at cost) on a claims number (there was no other) which started with an annoying protracted and irrelevant preamble, and got them to cancel my application and refund the cost. Hopefully that process will be problem free.

Absolute Con! If I could give zero points I would.

If I could give zero points I would. Don't be fooled by taking out a "Premier Cover", this company, which is Collinson Insurance hiding behind the name of Post Office, looks for ways not to pay. If you are unable to return home on a flight through no fault of your own, they don't pay, despite being told we were when we called at the time of being stuck. Had to pay for 2 further flights, hotel, food, transport arrived 24 hours late and got ZERO from this company. What a scam, particularly after opting for the most expensive cover in order to not get caught out. A formal complaint is being logged and then Financial Ombudsman if this scam of an organisation continues to manipulate and con genuine customers who are coming to the Post Office in the belief it is a good and reliable organisation. If only I had read the reviews first. Thank god we did not opt for annual cover!

Save yourself the hassle... Awful company

This has been the WORST travel insurance I have ever taken out. It has been over a year since I took out a claim for simply a stolen suitcase and still my case has not been resolved. I was given an 'apology' and a rubbish £35 in compensation for the length of time it has taken them, however this was back in May and it is now September. Save yourself the trouble... so much for the 'Premium' cover I spent more on.

🤬🤬🤬This has to be the worst travel…

🤬🤬🤬This has to be the worst travel insurance I have ever used and never again. I had an injury whilst on holiday, had medical bills to pay in that country which is supposed to be covered by the policy. I have been waiting nearly 3 months. They have all the relevant documents hospital records, receipts etc. Everything they need. I was told the claim has been settled and I should receive the funds into my account in 5 working days. After a couple of weeks still nothing phoned again and apparently needed more documentation that I was not told of. Sent that through and now the latest is that I am now being used as a guinea-pig to do thorough fraudulent investigation. An absolute joke will never use them again and will stop as many people as possible from using them. Utter useless, may aswell have saved my money and not purchased any holiday insurance altogether.

Ghastly service

No human to speak with and your team takes up to 15 working days to respond. Unfathomable how this is acceptable. Should take a close look at Deutsche Post or Post NL and take notes! How your organisation is still operational baffles me. From birthday cards to diplomatic documents, nothing is safe with you. Branches shut whenever they please and without prior notice. An entire week of not being able to collect or post anything and that’s considered normal. Ghastly service.

Flight Delay Assistance

As I was taking the children abroad I went for the premium package with Post Office as I would rather go all out to make sure my family is covered. This included flight delay assistance. Our return flight was delayed by over an hour and I did not think much of it, but by the time I got home and had reconnected with my phone provider I had received an email with a payment to my PayPal due to the delayed flight. I did not even think about the flight delay assistance that had been included with my insurance. I was very impressed with this service and this made what was a long stressful day end up easing my return considerably. I will definitely return to Post Office in the future.

Positive if you avoid the useless online claim from…

Had a positive experience on the phone claiming for a flight delay. All done with minimal fuss and money paid same day.

Loses 1 star because the online claim form, which they constantly try and steer you towards, is absolutely useless and doesn’t work properly. Speak to someone on phone to get claim handled properly.

DO NOT USE

Recently had to cancel our holiday due to a family bereavement. Received an email 10th July to advise that the claim had been settled & money would be in our bank within 5 working days. As of today 5th August we have still not received our money or any explanation. We have made some 6 phone calls asking for an update & every time they just fob us off with 'someone will call you back later' I started the complaints procedure last week & not even received an acknowledgement

Agent Brendan shambles

Just dealt with Post Office insurance , completely incompetent people. Agent Brendan admitted to me that his department mislead me but didn’t want to honour my insurance. Spoken to Wendy too who was absolutely same appalling service. Never again I will be having same mistake of using Post Office insurance again .

TERRIBLE exchange rate!

TERRIBLE exchange rate!

Firstly and positively, a lovely lady served me!

Sadly, I then parted with over £151.81 to receive the equivalent of £131.60, at todays exchange rate, in Turkish Lira ( that's 5600TRY exactly ).

Obviously I am not a walking currency calculator, so I trusted that a local, non emergency exchange, at the Post Office was going to be cheaper than withdrawing in Turkey, or changing money at the airport. However, I have checked everywhere and there isn't a worse exchange rate I can find on the internet. Even Heathrow, and a few other airports exchange services are better.

I feel quite strange and irritated that I "exchanged" £151.86 for £131.60. That's almost 15% commission. I'm not arguing it should be free, but had they said "Thank you. That's 5600 Turkish Lira in return, which is £131.50 in English money", I would have said I wasn't happy and declined to proceed. I had no idea the swap was so fruitful in the Post Offices favour.

I am honestly quite annoyed because I believed I was being sensible, but I lost over £20 by swapping money for money. I didn't buy anything.

Definitely a hard lesson learnt. Don't believe the "guidance" and just use your card or machines out there. You'll get far far far better than 15% commission!

The Money Saving Expert say airport exchange rates are "hideous". Then what is this? Madness and greed and there can be no justification.

Just straight out lies.

Just straight out lies.
My insurance certificate states “replacement passport”

They are claiming that means “travel documents to get you home”
BUT in the same email they state “you can only get a replacement passport in your home country”

I KNOW!
I need a replacement as it was stolen!
Now pay out the £270 it cost me for a
REPLACEMENT PASSPORT “

post office insurance avoid

Have bought numerous policies from post office insurance over the years. made first claim recently after broken leg and was advised not to travel by consultant.
they are asking for a boarding pass for a flight I didn't board. am very frustrated as I have sent them lots of documentation so I cannot see why they are querying my claim. will not be using post office insurance ever again .

Brilliant experince

Had travel insurance through Post office for last five years. Had to claim recently due to illness and having to cancel a cruise claim submitted on Monday and paid out on Wednesday, 2 days later. No quibbles. Excellent service.

Unhelpful and trying their best to not give anything

Went on a train holiday to mainland Europe. Got a train cancellation and next service delayed while still in UK which forced me to change other train tickets and accommodation. Got nothing back from the my insurance claim because train companies don't use word cancellation and delay they only say over 120 minutes. It turns out the magic number was 4 hours and not 3 hours (only reason I was given for not getting my claim). Can I edit my claim and say 4h instead of 3h as I wasn't given any document that stated specifically the hours delayed? Off course not.

Lesson learned. Read all the small letters very well before you make a claim and be aware you can not edit it...mistake or not.

Had an excellent experience with this insurance

Read some very poor reviews here, after i had purchased cruise insurance. However , we then had to cancel a cruise a week before departure for medical reasons. The claim procedure was excellent, clear and concise and could talk to the insurance company on the phone easily. There was no delay in proceeding with the claim. So i am actually happy with the communication and service received and would use again.

Website riddled with error messages

Apart from being able to purchase their policy, activating benefits has service errors, as does cancelling. Constant online technical issues. However the customer service team on the phone were prompt and polite.
