Cowboys in Training
I would give zero star for this place if I could, but in this case, one star can definitely be treated as such. I took a level three electrical course in 2016 at this place because they offered weekend classes. I travelled from Wolverhampton to Beeston Nr Nottingham every Sunday, a round trip of 106 miles approximately. The fees of £2500 was to be paid in three stages starting September, and the final by Christmas. By end of October, it was noticeable the teaching ability of the school's owner Robert Hurley wasn't up to standard. It became common chat amongst all the students. I asked for additional tuition, but was told to simply read various chapters in the text book. I completed all assignments and read ups on time, attended every class, mock tests etc. When the exams were due, I still had unanswered questions about certain areas. I completed my exams successfully except two. I was told to pay £45 to resit each exam, after two failed attempts. During one of these exams in February 2017, there was an IT problem. Instead of cancelling the exam, Hurley told the class "no one will fail, you'll all pass". I retook these exams and failed.
This wasn't the only occasion where exams candidates were disrupted. Workmen carried out construction work to alter an area in the corridor during an exam. When I told the young woman at reception, I was shocked by her response or indifference of "what can I do, you can take it again, you should speak to your tutor".
At no stage did the school give feedback where I were failing although I requested this. Candidates were given permission to use course notes in the exam, but halfway through I was accused of cheating, (after all the hard work and at age 59) and told to leave the room. The school deny they said that although there was another student present. I noticed two fellow students in particular who laughed or had an expression on their face as if they knew something that I was the subject of, but these two people were never bold enough to tell me why they acted the way they did whenever I spoke.
I saw the course as a change in career, but can only conclude I was victimized for complaining about the sub standard teaching and the school's inability to impart knowledge and training so it may be understood. The school is run by friends and relatives of the owner Robert Hurley. They are very young and inexperienced, come across as cold, don't know how to talk to people and are very rude. In furtherance, Hurley rarely answers query/complaints, but pass them onto Luke, the very young inexperienced office manager to respond to, who could not give a date for exams to be taken, and refused to deal with my complaints on teaching standards by actually blocking my emails. I was threatened with being thrown off the course unless the final installment was settled. These are accredited by City & Guilds, so your complaint won't go far because they're also profiting from these scammers. It's also a slick operation because they know it costs more than the fees to take legal action and get your money back. The only example of cheat was that committed against me by Training in Electrical as they are scam artists who will give you a pass along as you pay the fees and don't complain. My advice if you are attracted to the convenience of weekend study, visit the centre with someone in a similar industrial background,(electrical/trainers) to compare the centre facilities with all the good and bad reviews,(you will see the bad ones are highlighted way, way at the bottom) ensure they can show you and give verifiable checkable means to prooving their success, who they're accredited by and talking to anyone that's experienced their teaching methods. Otherwise avoid and do your damndess to go to evening classes at your local college. With my travel costs, fees and books equipment etc, I am certificateless and down around £4000. These people have no shame as plenty of my emails were blocked when I contacted them, and as they've kept my details in their database, are still emailing me to take up another course with them. My final warning to anybody taken in by these snakes in the grass is don't pay any mind to the fake reviews (they would have been written by Hurley, his friends, staff and relatives, and "if it's too good to be true, then it is too good to be true". You have been warned. Don't get caught out.
