Absolutely Disgraceful Dog Policy – Trafford Centre Management Should Be Ashamed
I have never experienced such an ignorant, unreasonable and frankly disgusting approach to dog owners as the one currently enforced by the Trafford Centre.
During my visit, I was told that dogs are not allowed inside the Trafford Centre — not even an emotional support animal. What was even more outrageous was that we were actually advised to leave the dog in the car.
Let that sink in.
Rather than showing any understanding or offering a sensible alternative, the advice from Trafford Centre was effectively to leave an animal sitting in a vehicle while we went inside. That is an utterly irresponsible suggestion and demonstrates just how disconnected management appears to be from the realities of responsible pet ownership.
What makes this policy even more ridiculous is the explanation we were given for it.
We were told that the Trafford Centre became a no-dog environment because, in the past, some dog owners failed to pick up their dog's faeces.
Seriously?
So because a minority of irresponsible people could not perform the most basic responsibility of owning a dog, Trafford Centre management decided that every single dog owner should be punished?
That is an incredibly shallow and intellectually lazy way of managing a problem.
If certain people refuse to clean up after their dogs, deal with those people. Put proper rules in place. Enforce them. Provide bins. Introduce penalties. Remove repeat offenders. Create designated dog-friendly areas with clear conditions. There are countless sensible solutions available.
Instead, management apparently chose the easiest possible option: ban everyone.
That isn't intelligent management. It is lazy management.
It is the managerial equivalent of saying, “We can't be bothered to enforce reasonable rules, so we'll just prohibit everyone from doing it.”
And then to justify this blanket ban by pointing to the behaviour of a minority is nothing short of pathetic.
Responsible dog owners should not have to suffer because some irresponsible individuals failed to clean up after themselves. You don't ban every customer from bringing a shopping bag because one person left rubbish behind. You don't ban every family because one family misbehaved. You deal with the individuals responsible.
That is what competent management does.
The Trafford Centre is a major shopping destination with enormous resources and a professional management team. Surely they are capable of developing a sensible policy that allows responsible dog owners while dealing appropriately with irresponsible ones.
Apparently not.
Instead, they have chosen a blanket ban and expect responsible customers simply to accept it.
And being told that an emotional support animal isn't permitted, followed by being advised to leave the dog in a car, makes the whole situation even more unacceptable.
I find the entire policy outdated, lazy, shallow and completely devoid of common sense.
The management need to stop hiding behind the behaviour of a few irresponsible dog owners and take responsibility for their own failure to implement a sensible, enforceable policy.
