Our journalists research and write all the news articles. The Stray Ferret is committed to public interest journalism: We investigate how public money is spent, follow council meetings and hold our local politicians to account. We are the only local news service to regularly attend magistrate hearings . We are always responsive to local people if they send us news or ask us to investigate an issue. We often break exclusive stories and undertake detailed investigations. We are here to help support local democracy and give people a voice in a safe, fact-checked, digital space. We work to a high standard and are externally regulated by Impress and adhere to its standard code. We are independent, our news stories are not written by AI bots but by qualified, experienced journalists who understand and live in the local area, who check facts and work to provide context and balance. We are contactable and have an office in the centre of Harrogate. The Stray Ferret is a subscription based news service - advertising did not provide enough income to cover our costs. It costs £4.99 monthly and £49.99 for a yearly subscription. We publish a nightly free email newsletter with our headlines. We also have partnerships with local, independent businesses to offer subscribers discounts for services, leisure and hospitality. We want local people to subscribe and value our content - we work for them.

The Stray Ferret offers current, candid and professional journalism for Harrogate and surrounding areas.
It’s now my go to for local news, events and affairs in my hometown.
The app is easy to use offering up to date local news anytime. I highly recommend.

We have just moved to the area and…

We have just moved to the area and subscribed to The Stray Ferret in order to find out a bit about the area. It has proved to be an excellent source of local news and events and we’ve even got some wonderful deals being a subscriber. The annual subscription is very reasonable and I would recommend anyone in the area to give it a go

As a regular subscriber to The Stray…

As a regular subscriber to The Stray Ferret I can honestly say with today’s ‘fake’ news that’s it’s refreshing to have real journalists research local news in a factual informative way. Given five stars as £4.99 a month is a very reasonable cost for daily news. Love reading the breaking stories.

The Stray Ferret is trustworthy, credible and important.

The Stray Ferret is an extremely trustworthy news source for everything happening in Harrogate and North Yorkshire. It's the only news source in the area I trust, and every time I've gone into their office their people are lovely, helpful and credible. I think this is an important business for our area!
