A warning for future purchasers
I recently purchased a bespoke dog crate unit from The Pet Carpenter, costing just over £3,200 - a triple crate for 3 Labradors. While the finished product itself is well made, my overall experience was disappointing due to issues with delivery, fitting, and the level of aftercare.
The unit was delivered by a single person despite being very large and heavy, which resulted in damage to my flooring during installation. Unfortunately, this meant I had to replace the flooring in the affected areas at a cost of £1,310 (admittedly this did also include a small utility and downstairs loo that was in damaged but needed to match the new flooring - separated quotes had this part at £195).
In addition, the unit did not fit the space as intended and required significant joinery work to make it usable. This included removing and refitting beading, cutting down part of the frame, removing timber battens, taking off skirting boards, and then refitting them. This work cost a further £275.
Whilst I did provide measurements, I am not a tradesperson, and for a bespoke piece of furniture at this price point, I would have expected a greater level of due diligence and professional judgement to ensure the unit could be installed correctly without requiring this level of remedial work - I also note this as an issue on a previous review from 2023 so the company have not taken that on board.
This took almost a month to arrange with Harry for a contractor to come out and review the damage, i ended up getting my own joiner to speed up the process. To their credit, the company did contribute £850 (after multiple emails back n forward - initial offer was £650) towards the costs, which I reluctantly accepted in order to resolve matters quickly. However, this still left me significantly out of pocket for issues that arose as a direct result of the delivery and installation process being poor.
Overall, the product itself is good, but the experience highlighted shortcomings in delivery arrangements, installation planning, and quality control. For a premium bespoke service, I would have expected a smoother process from start to finish.
