Misleading advertising

Misleading advertising – avoid this store

This was an extremely frustrating experience and a complete waste of time.

Their website advertises a $45 plan for Rogers and Bell. I called and was explicitly told the price was $45 and advised to go to a store to activate.

I first contacted the store inside Fortinos at 8585 Hwy 27, where the plan was confirmed on the phone. When I arrived, the price suddenly changed to $50, with the excuse that the $45 plan is only for existing Rogers customers — a condition never mentioned online or on the phone.

I then contacted the store inside Loblaws at 301 High Tech Road. The representative, again confirmed the $45 plan and told me to come in. After a 40-minute commute and going through the entire setup, I was told at the very end the price was $50, this time because the $45 plan is supposedly only for bank and government employees.

Two stores. Same plan. Two different excuses.

This is not a misunderstanding — it’s misleading and a waste of customers’ time. Do not walk, run away from this store.

They prioritize sales > service and will be sneaky about it.

Sales rep did everything to try and sneak sales into my purchase of a new plan. I caught most of it but he got away with adding a device protection plan through Likewize under the guise that it’s free for a few months.

I wasn’t asked and didn’t notice it was added until all was said and done then I noticed and questioned him. He said it was free for a few months then I can call and cancel. (Like thank you, I really wanted to have to remember to call and cancel a service I didn’t ask for??)

Got around to doing that and learned I’ve been paying $12.99/month since the day the phone was set up. For a service I didn’t ask for, didn’t want and would’ve never agreed to if he didn’t sneak it in. Just be cautious. It’s not a sales technique, it’s full on misleading.

Penticton Mobile Shop - excellent customer service.

I’d like to give a shout out to Joban at the Penticton, BC Mobile Shop. Not only was he knowledgeable and efficient, he went above and beyond in helping to fix the gaff made by the internet company he was representing at the time. Joban spent several hours on my behalf for a mistake made by someone else (not me, thankfully) and then ensured I was satisfied and even arranged further compensation through the store his shop is based within. Kudos and more kudos and I will absolutely do future business at this Mobile Shop. Thank you, Joban.

The Boxing Day promo’s decreased my monthly bill for our phones over $120 a month. Wow. They were so professional and took time to explain everything to me. So happy to have had my experience with this wonderful team.

Trusted service to help find best choices

Noah helped me select the best plan for what I needed. I did not feel like he was trying to sell me anything I didn’t want and it was great to have so many choices. I definitely recommend the mobile shop over going to a cellphone company and trying to figure out which one is the best on your own.

My entire family shopped at the mobile…

My entire family shopped at the mobile shop until one of their employees blatantly lied to my young adult daughter purchasing a phone for the first time. Stating it came with unlimited international minutes. After calling her friend in America she recieved her bill a week later and the bill was astronomical. We contacted The mobile shop in which they claimed this person had done this several times for sales and was fired but they did nothing to rectify what was done even after claiming they would. Several calls and a couple of months later the new gm claimed they wouldn't be able to help. DON'T shop there or allow anyone you know to shop there. They've lost my families business and anyone I can reach. It caused my 19yr old financial hardship with how quick and how high that bill was.

Shysters

Typically, I’m a loyal Superstore customer. The prices are competitive, the produce fresh, the staff are great … I’d even vote for Galen Weston if he ever ran for Prime Minister (hey, anyone who can successfully run – and grow – a big company can certainly do a better job running the country than the current yokel).

Most recently, however, I’ve had a very off-putting experience with The Mobile Shop, one of the subsidiaries of Loblaws / Superstore. Ear buds. Big deal, right? They were pretty bad. I gave them a fair try, but the damn things just wouldn’t stay in, no matter what size fitting I used (they came with small, medium, and large attachments). So, I attempted to return them. The people at the Mobile shop refused to take them back, refused to refund my $42. “All sales final,” they said (despite NOT having informed me of that at time of sale). Something about Covid and ear buds being potentially infectious?! How ludicrous. Panties, I would understand, but ear buds? (Note that I carefully cleaned everything before repackaging quite neatly.)

The parent company, Loblaws, usually so good about returns has been ominously silent on the matter.

Read the fine print before handing over your money at The Mobile Shop. “Shyster” is the word that springs to mind.

Disappeared phone and tie-up with…

Disappeared phone and tie-up with Brightstar mishap with their North Vancouver Superstore manager. Luckily sorted out by Rogers for the disappeared almost-free LG flagship phone (turned out to be defective as a hotstpot). But, the "phone protection" monthly charge on my credit card bill sold by The Mobile Store with a "hush, a it's free case" come-on turned out to be yet-another Brightstar problem. (Check out Brightstar). My credit card customer service alleged, "yeah, we know about Brightstar - lots of problems". So, in short, I returned the phone and the case to their manager, but the billing merrily went on, until I put a stop to them. Recently, I had a conversation with a manager at this company's shop at 152nd street, who alleged that this company's inventory control system has 'loopholes' because of its 'two-step' entry system, or some such excuse. My credit card company suggested changing my credit card number because of this "experience".
