You Never Get A Second Chance With A First Impression

Myself and a friend decided to have a hot beverage at The Blue Lagoon this morning.

I had always often driven past, and as parking was available, parked outside and headed to our destination intended on Gloucester Road.

On returning back to the car, before dropping off my mate and heading home, I asked my friend if he wanted a hot drink, and as I hadn't eaten anything prior to heading out the house earlier, I was extremely hungry.

We ordered, my mate a laté, with oat milk, and as he wanted a large drink, he enquired on the size. The individual serving us, presented us with the cup he would use. My friend agreed and I ordered a cappuccino, also with oat milk and a eggs benidict. The total came to over £15. (Btw, we were at the bar, near the entrance ordering).

(Can I state that good customer service is, asking if we've been before, ask if we'd like to see the menu, and confirm the order).

You Never Get A Second Chance With A First Impression!

We were given one pint glass with a wooden spoon, and cutlery, tightly wrapped in a serviette inside. The wooden spoon had a number on it 141.

I thought the person serving us mentioned something about a table, but didn't hear clearly, I looked around to see if there were numbers on the table, but no, so returned to the bar to enquire on the table. I was informed that I could choose any table.

We made our way to the very back, and sat on the benches, facing the bar. On observation my friend mentioned that he had previously visited the establishment and noticed the decor was different. On a brief cat-scann it appeared to be open, lively, though only 4 people outside, and one other couple inside, and had the look of a urban student vibe.

On closer inspection it was quite grubby, or shall I say shabby, and in our opinion agreed that the presentation could do with a fresh lick of paint, and priority attention to house keeping, meaning cleaning.

The windows, from where we sat, was/is a great focal point to people watch, and a good spot to really watch the world go by. The double doors was opened, essentially needed, as the day's temperatures and breeze was fantastic. Unfortunately, the windows we're not clean, both inside or out and had hand and finger prints everywhere.

There was a hole in the ceiling that we noticed and not sticking out, but clearly visible had two black pipes with cob webs and dust around it. The air conditioners were not switched on, but looked old. Unsure if what was overhead of us, possibly a speaker, but this had a lot of stains, possibly water, or drinks mark's.

The table was sticky, and there was a glass left on the table, possibly by a previous customer.

Our beverages were served, this could of been presented on a tray, as the drinks were spilt on the table, even with a saucer. The, (shall we call him waiter), did not clean the small amounts of spillage on the table. My friend mentioned to the waiter that on his last visit the hot beverages were served with two biscuits. Apparently this was not the case, due to the cost of living. Which was the waiters reply.

My friend noticed that his beverage was lukewarm, as was mine. We called the waiter over, informed him of this and the waiter offered to make a new cup for each of us. (He did not look happy about this, but tried to compose himself).

My meal was served, again, not on a tray. The waiter also had another plate with a sandwich and salad in the other hand, this was for the other customer inside I'm guessing.

Before leaving I asked the waiter why the eggs benidict was served with two pieces of ham. He informed me that it came with ham. (How strange) He checked the menu on a nearby table, still holdingthe other customer's order, and returned informing me that eggs royale was the vegetation option. (Possibly this was my fault as I've never been served eggs benidict with meat before)..

Anyway, rather than return the meal I removed the ham. Before leaving the waiter asked if I wanted any condiments. The actual words was, 'did I want any salt, or pepper'. I replied yes, but noticed while eating no condiments was given to me.

Our beverages was served, hotter than the previous drinks. The staff were seen chatting at the bar throughout looking busy. We noticed that no tables were wiped, no house keeping, cleaning was carried out.

I would say that there was at least 3/4 or possibly more, staff on shift or onsite.

While I ate, we both noticed the flies inside, no zappers were evident as a few were clearly seen and at one point I noticed the staff watching as we swotted them. Lol...

I'm a non-smoker, and would of preferred smokers to be in a designated area, as the second hand, passive smoke, was not the best while eating, wafting in.

While getting in the car we noticed that the signage advertised cocktail hours, student discounts, which would seem appealing as it looked cheap and cheerful.
