Useless bank

Useless bank, automated even when you get a person.
Once they release my money from being hostage I will absolutely be closing the account. 5 years nothing but problems and issues. Not worth saving the 15 bucks a month.

Won't Accept E-Documents

In the year 2025, Tangerine forces you to send important documents to them through either Mail or Fax.

They then have the gaul to call you saying your Fax message was of too low quality to sign and return. Maybe if you accepted a friggin Word Document, this wouldn't be an issue.

Unbelievable hard to open and validate…

Unbelievable hard to open and validate an account. Their on-boarding team is very unprofessional, with calling centers somewhere overseas. You don't know if it's even safe to upload the information they require for identification if a calling center overseas has access to it.

Good Website/apps; competitive gic/savings rates; good service

- Have been with them since 2016; I would recommend them as a 2nd bank
- I like their website/app - can do complete most tasks online - pretty intuitively laid out.
- they offer competitive gic rates
- If I dont want to wait on the phone I can request a prompt call back from the website/app
- transfer to/from my own back account takes 2-3 days - could be faster
- Supervisors are very responsive

terrible experience

one positive: they review the existing damage on the car with you, showing what's already there, and will add new pictures and comments if you find additional things

everything else is crap:
-attitude of the staff; most of them get defensive and rude quite quickly
-I've dealt with various staff members here, and the last two times, I feel the new/current staff really try to take advantage of customers, charging crazy amounts, not explaining costs, etc. I even had one agent give me her boyfriend's real estate agent card & booklet!
-many hidden costs here, don't explain things well -terrible delays in getting needed info for claims
-bad customer service=normal here (occasionally you'll have someone decent...usually after you have needed to talk to a supervisor and they know you are pissed)

Look elsewhere

Once upon a time ago this was a great institution when it was ING Direct. The good ole days. NOW? Long wait times, awful customer service and conflicting info between different Customer service reps are among the usual things that you encounter when trying to do either the most simple things or something a little bit more involved.

Had an RRSP Gic that matured in Feb so i decided to use that money towards a new RRSP to lower my taxes for the 2024 season. Customer service rep helped to achieve this. Fast forward 2 months later (Apr) while looking for my tax receipt on their site i could not find it. Called Customer service and now was informed that i would not receive one because i purchased the new RRSP Gic under "the same RRSP umbrella". What?
I had never heard of such a thing and felt that the Tangerine rep should've informed me of this beforehand since they knew i was using it for my taxes. unbelievable!

If i was properly informed, i then could've made the decision to purchase the RRSP from my TFSA or Chequing account. In the meantime, it's too late and i no longer have an RRSP that can be used towards my 2024 taxes which will cause me to pay more in taxes....thanks Tangerine! Your incompetence has cost you a 25+ year customer.

I'm already in the process of moving all of my money to another institution. DO BETTER! Anyone looking to doing business with Tangerine? do yourself a favour and find another institution to do your banking with. Just a warning to avoid incompetence and horrible customer service!
The overwhelming majority of 1 star reviews of this company is NOT a coincidence.

They have my money on hold and I cant…

They have my money on hold and I cant take it out, I was 1 hour with costumer service and they couldn't figure it out, I cant take money of scotiabank, I tried my wifes card and the same problem, they told me that it was the atm so I went to another one and the same, terrible I'm leaving this brand

Horrible Service

I wasn't happy with their credit card service so I switched to another bank.
I then called to cancel my card, waited on hold for about 20 minutes, finally got through to a real person and after another 20 minutes with her, I was assured that the card had been cancelled. That was a month ago and the card still hasn't been cancelled despite having a zero balance on it. So here I am now, on hold again, waiting to speak to a live person to find out why the card still hasn't been cancelled. What a waste of valuable time!

Wanting my dead wife to sign a check

I received my death benefit for my wife and because it was in the name of my wife's estate, they wouldn't let me cash it because it had to be her that signed it hahah even though I'm the executor of her estate so stupid

The worst bank to deal with


I'm closing my account with tangerine. Too many fraudulent activities, a very risky and unsafe bank to deal with. five times now my account was compromised having to call security waiting two weeks for my account funds to be released. Too much headaches with this bank. After the investigation is finished I'm closing on my account. The worst customer services ever.

Twice now my account was compromised having to call security waiting two weeks for my account funds to be released. Too much headaches with this bank. Horrible customer service

Tangerine allowed a fraudulent transaction on my account in January 2025. I only noticed it in March and immediately called their fraud department. They told me to destroy my card and issued a new one.

Now, months later, I receive a letter saying they’ve sent my account to collections—over **$18**. After wasting **1.5 hours** being transferred between departments, I was told there’s **nothing they can do**. Instead, I have to **pay the charge and just “hope” the fraud department refunds me**.

This is beyond frustrating, especially when none of the representatives can communicate fluently. **I’m done with this bank.** I’m closing my account and will never deal with Tangerine again.

Terrible..

This company has just gone so far down hill since I signed up years ago. It started out great but each encounter with agents over the last year of speaking with them it has been terrible. The agents say they understand frustration but it’s obvious they are told to say that. They don’t care, they convey no sense of understanding and speak to you like you’re an idiot.

My recent call was the same as past calls like I explained above. I noticed I had been charged an NSF fee for a PayPal transaction declined. Not that I don’t have money I just hadn’t transferred to that account for it in time, it was a $3 charge that ended up with a $45 fee attached. Nonetheless I paid it but also asked when that kind of thing had been implemented because I don’t remember such thing when I signed up, clearly most people understand that a pre-authorization like insurance it would make sense for an NSF if the money isn’t there but PayPal seems outrageous. The agent just kept telling me to read my terms and conditions and that’s that. A recent search displayed they added NSF about a year ago, not sure if that’s correct but seems about right as I said I never heard of it when signing up over 3 years ago.

When I was ending the call I mentioned I’d be leaving and going to another bank and there was no attempt of customer retention and just an ok from the agent.

Would no longer recommend

Wow, terrible. I was with Tangerine many, many years ago and they were phenomenal. I honestly recommended them to everyone and their grandmother. Re-opened an account tonight and called to see when I could expect a card. After a 20 minute hold, I was connected to an agent that I could only understand 1 out of every 15 (if that) words she said. Next thing I know, I'm back on hold...presumably with no explanation as to why. Well, it's now been another hour, and she still has not returned to take me off hold.
Absolutely disgusting. Seems the days of 1 minute holds and proper customer service are long gone with Tangerine, and I will very likely be closing this new account long before I ever even get a card (which may or may not be coming).

Avoid this bank at all costs

Avoid this bank at all costs. Not worth the no fees. They constantly put a hold on your money and say there is nothing they can do. Customer service is a joke. Once had to fight with them for three hours, while they said "there's nothing we can do" only to finally turn around and release the hold. They treat you like a criminal any time you deposit money and take nearly two weeks to release the hold. Then, their customer service talks down to you. I hate this bank completely and will never suggest it to anyone.
