$300 into medical debt now
$300 into medical debt now. Do not trust them. They will claim they cover your insurance then charge you outrageous amounts.
If I could give them zero Stars I…
If I could give them zero Stars I would. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a psychiatrist I also had a therapist that I liked but talkiatry decided to tell me that they were cutting off their relationship with me with no reason why, the psychiatrist Dr Ford was always 15 minutes late, without a real diagnosis she prescribed four different kinds of antidepressants in 3 months, the last one had a really bad effect on me, a very bad reaction, she wound up calling the police on me which was a bad call on her part which I proved. After that they discharged me from seeing my therapist as well, they didn't even tell me, they set up an appointment virtually I waited for 15 minutes I finally called and they told me that nobody was going to be talking to me anymore. Nothing like being betrayed and rejected by a place that's supposed to help you.
Accessible Mental Health Care
I’ve worked with two different providers and both have been great for helping me identify and treat my ADHD. This platform is a great fit for anyone who works with a more complex schedule/demanding role because it makes mental health care more accessible. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.
Run, don’t walk
Scam, beware. They will charge you $300 for a 30-minute appointment and won’t send you the bill for months. All this compounds to an unaffordable amount even with strong insurance. Look locally for help, and avoid Talkiatry at all costs.
This service is a scam
This service is a scam. The psychiatrist that they had me see was very unprofessional. She initially did not even show her face at the video appointment; all you could see was the top of her head, and she mumbled. The next appointment was very brief, and the third appointment she did not show up for, and tried to call me on my cell phone to reschedule??
Terrible experience/extorting vunerable people
Terrible experience. The therapist hadn’t updated their insurances on Zocdoc so the appointment was accepted then cancelled the day before by Talkiatry. They then sent a combination of cancel notifications and ‘prepare’ for your appointment messages so I called to double check what the status was. I had to speak to three different people who assured I had no appointment and there was no record of one in my account. I was then charged a late fee for the cancellation over the weekend and I couldn’t get in touch with billing as the office was closed. The customer service then said they would waive the fee, the next day it was taken out of my account and silence ever since. For a mental health platform they are extorting vulnerable people.
Great experience with my new psychiatrist
Great experience with my new psychiatrist. After our initial visit, I feel seen, heard, understood, and supported. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I’ve used several other online telehealth platforms for mental health, and Talkiatry has blown the others out of the water. I’ve only had one session, but I had a great connection with my care provider and am very hopeful about my mental health journey now. I would recommend the service to anyone.
Fraudulent and no customer service recourse
They never sent me the appointment link. I emailed and called. When I got through 10 min after my appt time, they said they had to reschedule. I explained and they offered to reschedule, but they were charging me $100 fee. I emailed and called to explain the situation. They said there was nothing they could do. So they continued to threaten to turn me into collections unless I paid. So I paid a fraudulent charge to a fraudulent company because of threats of collections!
If you need a way to make your mental health worse sign on with this site.
If you need a way to make your mental health WORSE, these are your people. I gave one star only because I like my provider. He’s solid and easy to work with. But boy is he working for a scam company. So I lost my insurance and I inquired about cost since I’m paying out of pocket. I was told it would be $50. Too good to be true. They sent me a text with a link to pay the $50 bill and they mailed a bill to my house for $50. About 5 days later my bank called me because they suspected fraud. I had to investigate and learned that Talkiatey gouged $344 from my bank acct. without my knowledge, without consent: I came so close to telling the bank it was fraud and not to pay it. But I didn’t because I figured I could talk to them and we would work it out. It’s been 2 weeks; I’ve sent MULTIPLE emails with no response. Not even a lame excuse email. I called and got the run around. Here’s the kicker; they’ve emailed me twice to confirm my upcoming appt. Boy they want to make sure you show up so they can gouge you. Oh smd the $344 they took from me was for a 15 min appt. These people are deceptive and customer service doesn’t exist. Guys I’ve done my research. There are plenty of online mental health platforms that cost WAY less, unless they are deceptive too. Did I mention my so. Is a LPC on a different platform. He charges $100 for an hour. Since these scammers have ignored my concerns I’m bolting. I wish i could get my Dr to get on a more honest site. So if you are someone seeking mental health help and you want a site that will make your probs worse, not better by all means sign up on this site. And it looks like others have experienced the same. If you want a good licensed counselor that charges $100 by the hour email me. I can tell you which site he’s on. The only down side is he can’t write prescription. Ok it won’t let me enter my email so if you should be interested in a 5 star therapist that won’t decieve you, please comment
IVE SEEN SO MANY REVIEWS LIKE MINE. SO IM PUTTING THIS OUT THERE: can anyone recommend a better site?
The best therapist hands down
The best therapist hands down that I have ever experienced both in person and online.
My therapist was professional
My therapist was professional, engaging and present.
Dr Susannah Williams is absolutely the best!!
Dr Susannah Williams is absolutely hands down the best psychiatrist on the internet!!! And that’s an understatement!!!! I mean she is easy to talk too and actually listens to me and cares about her patients!!! But this is an understatement by saying she’s absolutely hands down the best!!! But I recommend her to anyone who has mental health issues or just needs someone to talk too!!!
Denied service then billed...
I booked my psychiatrist initial appointment, and at the time of the appointment I joined the call. After waiting for 30 minutes my doctor still had not joined, so I called the help line and they just told me to stay in the 'virtual waiting room' and wait. After waiting for almost an hour, the psychiatrist finally joined the call, he told me that, because I have been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder I am not able to seek care through Talkaitry then ended the call. The next day, I received a $100 bill from Talkaitry for an appointment that I did not have. Whole experience has been terrible and nobody I spoke to seemed to care at all. I would not recommend talkaitry to anyone, especially not to those who have severe mental illnesses.
Predatory
Predatory. My daughter needed a local psychiatrist in order to continue the medication that she was prescribed by a psychiatrist in a different state. Talkiatry seemed a convenient option. She scheduled an intake appointment ($460 before insurance) and did not have a good experience with the therapist and decided to try someplace else. We received the bill for $460 but it also had a charge for $331 for another CPT code. At no point in the appointment was she made aware that this intake appointment was changing into additional "psychotherapeutic techniques" which would add another $331. The charge went through, of course, before we received any bill, so they had our money before we could begin to dispute it. After several calls and emails, it has been decided (by talkiatry) that the charges are "appropriate". Stay away from this place.
Don’t go
Don’t go. Total scammers. Dr got all my information and then boom says she can’t be my dr but STILL charged me. How is this fair?? It’s like going out for dinner and then refusing to pay!! So she got her money, drops me for some lane excuse, I complain and still get billed. I beg you don’t go there.
I first found Talkiatry because it was…
I first found Talkiatry because it was listed as an in-network provider through my insurance. Since my insurance recommended them, I assumed that most of the cost of the consultation would be covered.
When I created my account and entered my insurance information, the website estimated that my responsibility would be around $150. It also gave me the option to self-pay for $179. Since I already pay for health insurance every month, I chose to use my insurance.
A few days after my appointment, I received a bill showing that I owed $389. I later learned that the psychiatrist billed $710 for the initial telehealth consultation. The $150 estimate was apparently only an estimate or discounted amount, and because I had not yet met my deductible, I became responsible for a much larger portion of the bill.
That experience felt very misleading. Had I known the physician was going to bill $710 for a video visit, I would have chosen the $179 self-pay option or simply gone to an in-person psychiatrist.
The appointment itself did not justify the cost. Most of the visit consisted of answering standard intake questions. My concerns were not resolved, and instead I was instructed to obtain lab work, complete a drug screening, and purchase equipment to monitor my own vital signs at home before any treatment decisions could be made. At one point, an EKG was even discussed. Ironically, I found myself wondering whether the psychiatrist had interpreted an EKG since residency, considering psychiatrists typically don’t read EKGs as part of their routine practice. If an EKG was needed, I would have expected that evaluation to be handled by the appropriate medical provider.
To me, charging $710 for a virtual consultation that resulted in no treatment plan and no resolution is extremely difficult to justify. If medication had been prescribed, I would have needed a follow-up appointment that likely would have generated another similarly expensive bill.
My biggest issue is not necessarily with my insurance deductible—that is how insurance works. My issue is with how the pricing was presented. The initial estimate gave me the impression that my visit would cost around $150, when the physician’s actual charge was $710. That is a significant difference and not something I believe was made clear enough before the appointment.
Based on my experience, I would recommend considering an in-person psychiatrist instead. At least with an office visit, the overhead and comprehensive evaluation make the cost feel more understandable. Unfortunately, my experience with Talkiatry left me feeling disappointed, misled by the pricing, and unwilling to schedule another appointment.
My college daughter…
My college daughter enjoyed and desired to work with the doctor, but the error in billing is outrageous, and we have a huge challenge getting it resolved. I suspect abuse of coding: $479 for one hour is ridiculous, especially when she was told the call was a free consultation.
I want to keep them but $500 a pop is crazy work
Beware of Talkiatry.
In my opinion, Talkiatry is adjacent to a scam. I don't feel good about having to say that, but my experience with Talkiatry has left me really questioning how easy it is to commit health insurance fraud.
Talkiatry charged my insurance company $722 of which they wanted me to pay almost $450 for one single 60-minute appointment. This appointment was supposed to be a therapy session because prior to this appointment I spent almost 90 minutes completing the full client intake forms online and I submitted those forms successfully. However, when my appointment started, my therapist spent the entire 60 minutes asking me every question on the intake form and having me re-answer every question on the intake form. So essentially I had to do the intake form twice.
My session included zero therapy, zero discussion of the issues that were concerning me. It was only focused on intake because, as the clinician said, for some reason my original intake didn't go through. After having the session, I immediately contacted Talkiatry and told them what happened and asked them to not charge me for that session and if they didn't do that I would happily have a second session. However, not only did they charge me, they charged me and billed me for services that were not provided. Again, I reiterate, they sent a bill to my insurance company and to me for services that were not provided.
To me, this is blatant insurance fraud. Mental health is so critically important to all of us, and I my heart goes out to every single person who is in need of help. And I hope that you will see this review and do not waste your time and precious energy on dealing with this fraudulent company.

These two amazing Women have helped me a lot. They have taught me and listened to me. I always feel better after my sessions.
Half of this year Talkiarty was…
Half of this year Talkiarty was contracted with my insurance company. Out of the blue I received a bill and the billing department stated they are no longer contracted with my insurance company. No warning. No notice. Terrible customer service and resolution for this issue.
I highly recommend to avoid Talkiarty!
