We have just returned from a fantastic train holiday in Germany organised by Roisin at Tailor Made Rail. From the outset the level of service and attention to detail was exemplary. As my husband has multiple health issues and uses an electric wheelchair, I phoned first to see if the trip was suitable for us. ( Usually organisation's find our requirements too difficult to accomodate ) Roisin said " of course we can organise that for you no problem " ( I nearly fell of my chair)
Roisin planned the best trip for us, taking into account my husbands needs re timings etc.She organised rail assistance for all the train journeys. This meant we had help with ramps waiting for us to get on /off all the trains and help finding our connections. The accommodation Roisin booked was all within 15 mins walk of the station ( getting a taxi is sometimes challenging in a wheelchair ) The hotel rooms were all fully accessable. They all had accessable bathrooms with walk in showers with shower seats, hand rails,emergency assistance pull cords etc. The communication we received was brilliant. Prior to the trip whenever we phoned we could always request to speak to Roisin. We received detailed itinerary showing train times , hotels and maps showing the location of the hotels and details of emergency contact numbers should we need them. The travel documents arrived in good time and were very understandable. Due to unforseen circumstances we had to change the wheelchair my husband took at the last minute. Unfortunately the one we took could not be folded up. This meant we could not use our reserved seats in the 1st class carriages on the German trains ( Unlike UK trains,German 1st class carriages do not have wheelchair spaces ) and due to rail works some of the UK trains were changed. However the passenger assistance always ensured we were accomodated and looked after us fantastically. This in no way detracted from our holiday.
I can not recommend Tailor Made Rail highly enough. In this digital age it was refreshing to have such a personalised service that totally exceeded all our expectations. We will definitely be booking more trips with TMR . Many thanks.

Goos choice of trains and hotels

We gave the outline of the cities and dates we wished to travel, and they proposed trains and connections and hotels. The hotels were all very good (Germany and northern Italy), and train times worked well.

We enjoyed visting Germany and Netherlands by train. Franfurt, Dresden and Amsterdam were great but there was train travel every other day - needed longer between train days. The hotels used were variable two were good and two were average/poor.

Overall, the holiday was very good and interesting. We saw a lot of Germany from the train windows and stayed in fascinating towns. Most trains were 10 minutes or so late, though this never made us miss a connection. There were a couple of excellent added trips (Elbe valley and Cologne). On one day, our ticket had been dated incorrectly for the first train while the second train was missing our coach. Both these issues could have had serious consequences for us but luckily, local train staff were excellent in sorting out the problem. TMR was also excellent in its response to our 'complaint'. Hotels in Frankfurt and Dresden were excellent but the hotel in Dusseldorf was less good (very basic room with few extras, few extra facilities in reception). There was some lack of useful signage at Amsterdam Centraal station which might need some mention in TMR instructions, though it was good to have a short time to see Amsterdam again.

Loved the holiday. All trains were on time, clean and functional. The locations were great but we felt that the 3 day stay in Perugia was too long. 2 days would have been fine and perhaps an extra day in Rome.
The hotels in Zurich, Florence and Spoleto were excellent but the hotels in Perugia charged us for using pool and gym and the hotel was not walkable from the station as suggested. The hotel in Rome seemed to have a problem with the air conditioning and the room was tiny. The location was good.The final hotel in Nice certainly was not a 4 star. It was pretty seedy. A suggestion for future travellers might be to stay in Doubletrees at Nice ville station.
But on the whole, the train journeys through Switzerland to Italy were amazing and the coastal rail journey from Italy to France were sublime.
All cities and towns on this holiday were well chosen.
On the whole, this holiday was good value for money.

The company were great and always offered a personalised service

Right from the outset of us thinking about a rail trip to Istanbul, all our contact with Tailor Made Rail has been extremely helpful- they were very quickly able to put together a proposed itinerary including hotel bookings for us to consider, and were very happy to make alterations following helpful discussion with their staff, many of whom had made the trip themselves, and so were speaking from direct experience. Their recommendations all turned out as well as we could have expected - hotel choices were all good and conveniently located, and descriptions of the journey accurate with the exception of the fact that although we would be woken
Up at the border crossing from Bulgaria to Turkey we were not aware we would have to leave the train twice including taking all our luggage with us for one of the disembarkations. But overall, a very helpful team who clearly wanted us to have the best experience possible. Also, all the documentation they sent us with instructions on ticketing together with what to do and where to go with regard to the journey itself were very clear and helpful.

Great service from start to finish. This was our 2nd trip and we weren’t disappointed. Good hotel choices and great routing and the timings of transfers between trains was spot on

First class service from beginning to end. Did a 10 day tour of Switzerland and it was a great holiday with excellent hotels and rail travel. All train connections worked perfectly and hotels with super rooms. We had an Inter Rail pass and no problems at all. Great itinerary and planning. Will use Tailer Made Rail again.

Tailor Made gave us exactly that, an excellent tailor made holiday to Spain by train... just what we hoped for. Good hotels in all the places we visited and the connecting trains and reservations all worked well. The staff were excellent, giving good advice and were very knowledgeable. We will use this company again.

We felt we received personal service. Nothing was too much trouble, we were able to customise our holiday to exactly what we wanted as part of the booking process. We were given really clear instructions for every leg of the journey - there was a set of instructions for each day giving travel, hotel and excursion details.

A well planned journey which did exactly what we asked.

Great holiday, everything was perfectly planned for us with very clear directions for every change in trains. When schedules were late they were on hand to resolve and advise on any fall out.

Our train holiday to Switzerland via France and Italy was amazing. The way that the holiday itinerary was planned and dovetailed all the way was fantastic. The location of the hotels to the railway station was well thought out and all to a very high standard. The staff were all friendly and helpful at every destination. I couldn't praise Taylor Made Rail enough. Communication with them was friendly and helpful. Due to this we felt confident we were going to be able to journey via Eurostar and Interrailing in our mature years.
We travelled on 19 trains, including the Bernina express and journing on the Glacier route with 5 stops overs and a visit to Zermatt.

It was our first time booking with TMR but I can honestly say they were really easy to communicate with and responded quickly to questions. They provided us with a detailed printed daily timetable/plan which was very user friendly. Our trip was to Germany, Frankfurt, Dresden and Düsseldorf. All journeys went to plan. Frankfurt was the only place where we felt uncomfortable due to the location of the hotel by the railway station. The area is very run down with people openly using drugs. We would recommend using a hotel in a better district but this would mean using a taxi. Frankfurt old town is lovely.
Dresden is a beautiful place and while there took advantage of the rail tickets included with the package to Pirna, another lovely place.
Düsseldorf is a lively place on the Rhine with lots of bars, restaurants and shops.
We had a great time exploring Germany.
We would definitely book through TMR again as we felt it was a very well organised independent holiday.
