Our advice is- don't try and do a whole house insulation project without a knowledgeable engineer and project manager and we thoroughly recommend Ben Foster/ Tactical Energy.

At the start of 2025, we finally undertook a whole house insulation project for a link-detached house built in 1920s, extended in 1960s. This means it had 3 large external walls, flat roofs and lots of windows, downpipes, external fittings which had always been very daunting for us when considering External Wall Insulation (EWI)
Ben (Tactical Energy) oversaw the whole project, with the Home Energy Plan and Design. He discussed our aims, obtained quotes from Insulation installers/ builders and window installers and guided us through the quotes and any queries we had. We are fairly experienced renovators, and wondered if we needed him to project manage the actual installation works, but we are so glad we did get him to project manage the whole thing.
The technical aspects of the EWI installation were way beyond our knowledge, and Ben was there to make sure that all the little details were taken care of and the installers did not cut any corners, to make our house a properly insulated building with no cold bridges and no risk of damp.
Moving lots of gutters, downpipes, electrical fittings, and ensuring proper installation of the insulation with protection against damp etc were all part of the problems he had to solve, in conjunction with the builders, and all were done really well. Any concerns we had were dealt with by Ben and communicated and sorted out with the workers. It was great just having one person to deal with and not having to try and coordinate and deal with plumbers/ electricians / builders etc, as Ben did all that!
We truly could not have done the project without Ben and feel he was worth every penny (if not more) of his very reasonable fees. We now have a wonderfully warm insulated house and are very happy that the work done was of the highest standard, as Ben has checked on it every step of the way.
The bonus is that Ben is also a very friendly and lovely person who you can have a coffee with, whilst discussing your house progress!

Ben's team stepped in to redo a flat roof replacement following the failure of the previous firm to complete properly (And subsequent liquidation of the previous firm). Ben supervised the project closely, and got his team back to correct some snagging issues that we identified. I have been very happy with the work completed, and also Ben's attention to detail in supervising the work. I can thoroughly recommend Tactical Energy Systems.

Ben is an amiable person who I was comfortable to invite into my home. Both arranging the visit and the visit itself were very efficient. I was confident in Ben’s knowledge and advice. I learned a lot from the visit and received follow-up notes from Ben the following day.

Ben was punctual and polite the survey that he did allowed plenty of time for discussion and expert advice. It was very pleasant and thorough and interesting visit.

I received detailed, practical advice, tailored to my specific house and my pattern of occupancy of it. All options for economical, maximally 'green' heating of the property were considered, including retention of the existing gas-powered system. After the visit I felt in a much better position to decide whether and how to change to a system based on an air-source heat pump.

Ben has been helpful and approachable in all my communications with him.
He was realistic about time frames and in every way reliable.
He asked questions which helped me to clarify what I hoped to get out of the report and which enabled him to provide me with the best advice.
The follow up meeting was very effective in helping me to understand the full implications of his report. My questions were answered and his advice on how to make strategic improvements to our mid terrace property were practical and manageable.
A great strength was Ben's skill and ability to work within my limited budget.
He is willing to be available for further advice as needed.
His input was invaluable and I would, (and already have), recommend him to other home owners unreservedly.

Ben has been really fantastic - he performed a heat energy survey for us last month, visiting our house to take detailed measurements and assess our insulation, heating systems etc. He then followed up with an excellent report, with a very thorough analysis of options tailored to our needs and a useful phased recommendation of practical steps we could take to improve the heat efficiency of our home. Ben offered a follow-up call to talk this through and cover my questions (which he did so adeptly). I was impressed by his knowledge, professionalism and helpfulness throughout this process - it was really great to get his insight!

Ben provided a very professional service. He presented well and explained in detail what he was doing and answered all of my questions. I think this is a brilliant service as his plan really helped me to decide what to do to improve the energy performance of my old 2 bed stone cottage, providing me with a step by step list with estimated prices. This is just what I needed to budget and plan ahead. I highly recommend using Ben. Everyone should have one of these plans. It makes good sense and will save money in the long run.

The report Ben produced after assessing my home was detailed, informative, accessible and provided realistic and achievable options. I was able to talk through the report with Ben and have since made a start on some of his recommendations.

Ben visited our house to carry out a report, he arrived on time and was well presented, whilst carrying out the report he kept us informed of what he was doing and why.
When the report was finished he visited us again and went through his findings and explained the report to us, we’ve taken his advice from the report and will be making steps to increase our energy efficiency!
