The best service I've ever received from a broadband supplier
FTTP finally became available in my area and I decided to place my order with Ghost Broadband (part of Structured Communications). An OpenReach appointment was then made for about a week later. The appointment slot was 08:00-13:00. At about 14:00, I received an email from Adam at Ghost asking if everything was going okay, because he could see the OpenReach order was still open. I cannot imagine any reality in which any of the well known providers would be individually checking up on a live order like that. As it happened, it was all okay but I really appreciated the check-in. Once the router was connected up, I got another email saying they could see I was now online. The setup all worked, but I decided I wanted to use my own router. I emailed Adam back and asked what the correct PPoE settings would be. I received a reply in UNDER 3 MINUTES(!!) with exactly the information I needed. On the flip side, I emailed Virgin about my disconnection request and received an automated reply saying it would take 10 working days for someone to get back to me...
The low latency on Ghost is absolutely astonishing. I have gone from Virgin Media business (1Gbps down) which was averaging about 20ms to most major services, down to 2-3ms with Ghost. My ping to Google, CloudFlare, Microsoft, all 3ms or under. I have months of historical Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) graphs for my previous VM connection, showing fluctuating latency throughout the day, regularly spiking to 80ms, particularly during peak 16:30-20:30 times. All of this has gone away and the connection is completely stable with Ghost.
So, not only is the service performance excellent, the people are too - the service just feels so personal. I almost didn't want to write this because I feel they are the best kept secret... But a company like this (and Adam himself) deserve to be praised.
