Starlink broken

My wife’s starlink works, at best 40% of the time and she lives in Thornbury (15mins from Collingwood). Wifi is essential as she’s a teacher with three schoolchildren of her own. Contacting customer support only directed me to a private IT requiring a fee to resolve the problem. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

My personal experience with Starlink…

My personal experience with Starlink has been great. I live in the middle of no where and it was either 100gigs a month for $130 bucks or Starlink unlimited for $120 a month.. it was a no brainer the upfront cost is 100% worth it in my opinion. Thanks Starlink

Starlink aka Starstink

Starstink has no customer service. Go online, run around taking pictures of everything, log a ticket and wait and wait and wait. No answers as to why I’m suddenly offline. No bad weather. No indication of a fix and if new equipment will be sent. There is no one to call and no one responding to my support ticket.
Very expensive internet with minimal service. Still no internet after 2 days
Update; was promised a return call from Jarrell but instead he put a ticket on my file to send me refurnished equipment which I will receive at some unknown date. So basically he lied. I paid $1000 for new equipment and have only had it for 1 year. Worst service ever!

Worse internet I have ever had

Worse internet I have ever had. Customer service is horrible all they do is write you pre made responses and make you jump through hoops checking settings and doing speed test after they ask to send a speed test which I just did at 13Mbps I get a response of your internet is working within the range for your area!!!!!! I live in south Texas not the Amazon my internet should not be going from 180 to 13 every 10 to 20 Seconds.

Game changer for rural locations.

I live on a farm, before starlink the broadband was less than 1mb. Then tried many 4g sims and router's but they where unreliable in cloudy weather. Had Starlink for 2 years, has been amazing, speed between 30mb to 150 mb. Ping between 30 and 40ms. Ive played online video games lots, not as good as fibre obviously but still works great for online gaming. I have worked from home the whole time with regular teams meetings and its been very reliable.

One thing to point out is that i have never used the provided router and have no feedback on how well it works. I have a dedicated network at my property spanning multiple buildings each with a wifi box. Starlink connects to my network via ethernet. If you have solid stone walls you will struggle with wifi and might need an expert.

I have the v1 dish installed on the roof of a high barn.

The dish has to switch between satelites regularly which is an unavoidable part of the system design but i barely ever notice that.

Internet has decent speeds

Internet has decent speeds, but you'll experience outages and packet losses every minute from now until the end of time ranging between 1 second to 10 seconds. Sometimes whenever peak hours are not in effect you'll experience decent gaming experiences and internet speeds. However this is so far and in-between consistent service issues. For users like me its the absolutely best I can do so It's better than nothing. Do yourself a favor a look for a more traditional non-satellite hookup's if possible otherwise welcome to the struggle bus of having enough to enjoy it only to constantly be let down.

Waiting for a refund for the last 8 months. Always the same answer, it will be processed within 10 days.
Since refund is not received, I send another claim. Same answer, it will be processed within 10 days. Still waiting for the refund. It appears Starlink has a serious problem with his processors department.

It's all about customer support

I bought a system for my new boat being built and ready May of 2024. Builder needed the cables to run thru boat during build. Starlink is self activating upon purchase I FOUND OUT WHEN I GOT THE BILL and I quickly went to pause the service on line. Tried to call someone but FORGET THAT. Everything is by email...and I hate that. I was told tough luck my problem. What a way to start a business relationship. Just saying what a bad taste it left in my mouth and here I am the manager at our marina with over 250 owners who come to me for advise.

Starlink doesn't care, very expensive, no phone support, and not better internet

Starlink is very expensive. It may look like a good deal, but they are way more expensive than any other provider. With the standard package you can't pause it and when you get Starlink, it will start charging you right away, even if you haven't set it up yet! There is no support when setting up the device or how to use the app. I cannot recommend Starlink, if you have other choices. I live in the country and the Starlink internet is not really better than other providers. Additionally Starlink does not offer any phone support or cares about its customers.

Absolutely terrible customer support

The Starlink router (that comes with the dish) failed about six months after we got it. We went through all their recommendations to reset it but got nowhere. The customer support we received was just horrible--the worst I've ever experienced. You can only contact them through the app or website. You send a message and then 4 or 6 or 24 hours later, they might come back with a message saying, "glad you got it figured out." What? We didn't get it figured out and we never said that. Then another 12 hours goes by. Then we open up a new support ticket. We ended up having to resubscribe to our previous ISP who thankfully hadn't yet removed their dish from our house.

Starlink talks a big game but after 30 days…

Starlink talks a big game and when you first get it, it’s amazing. As soon as that 30 day return window is up, though, your speeds will start to DRASTICALLY slow down. Where I was getting speeds of almost 200mbps for the first 30 days (not kidding), it has dropped to between 3-12mbps. Smart of them to do because this is how you get good reviews. Customers get it, it’s amazing for a while, enough time for them to leave raving reviews, and then speeds slow down to the point where it’s useless for anything but basic stuff and downloading anything feels like dialup. You can’t blame it on congestion because I live in AB Canada and clearly starlink has the ability to provide these high speeds, they just slow it right down after the first 30 days. There is no way this isn’t intentional. Disgusting business practice.

The worst Internet service I have ever…

The worst Internet service I have ever had in my entire life, if I could give it zero stars I would. Whatever dial up connection you can get will be better than this, especially if they actually have a customer service department, which Starlink does not, so I can't even get my money back. Very dissapointed, especially after waiting so long for it.

UK User - Amazing Service for Rural Homes

I'm based in the UK and I've now had Starlink in 2 farm properties which are considerably rural, in Devon and Northumberland.

In both locations where internet speeds were around 30mb before I now have a consistent 180mb.

The initial outlay for equipment is expensive and the monthly charge is also expensive. However, it is the most reliable and best service, you are also able to use 3rd party routers like I do with an ASUS set-up and it is simply faultless.

Set-up while DIY friendly does mean you have to be proficient and the tools to reach an "unobstructed" location, in both locations I've found local installers however, haven't had to use them.

The dish part has not worked correctly…

The dish part has not worked correctly since day one. The system is simple, and I know that I just need a different starlink disk, as the one that was shipped to me is faulty, and keeps dropping offline randomly, then saying to check my cables, as there is no connection to the router. It seems the only way to get ahold of anyone is through and independent tech support company. But I don't need tech support, I need a new starlink dish, which i paid $500usd+ for. Seems sketchy af. If you don't want customers Elon, why are you even selling to us?

Low Internet speed in the pic hours

I purchased Starlink Internet because my best Internet speed was only 25 mbs but was very steady. Starlink offers up to 100 mbs. However, after a few days, I noticed a pattern: in the evening hours, the speed falls down to 10-15 mbs. Worse than I had up to this point. I wrote 3 complaints over a few days and only today I got an answer which makes sense. The answer was:"while we do our best to optimize performance for all users, you may experience varying or slower speeds during times of peak usage". What this means is that Starlink oversells the satellite capacity causing overload and speed reduction in the evening hours. Not only I am paying 50% more but at the same time I am getting lower speed causing an issue with the reception of the Internet TV channels. I am very disappointed and actually angry. The cost of the hardware is high, I needed to buy extra hardware for placing the antenna on the roof (the package comes with a stand to be placed on the ground). So, to summarize, the company is dishonest regarding the speed they offer misleading potential customers of what they can expect.

Expensive and slow customer service

Expensive. When it works it works but I've had three multi day outages in 6 months which is no bueno. Customer service is poor and since they're remote they ship hardware which just extends your downtime. Have had to replace my connector cable once, my router twice, and the entire kit once... why is their hardware so poor quality?

I ordered the kit

I ordered the kit. The first one was dirty and clearly used. They gave me a return label and said they would send a new item. I received the 2nd box and it was also clearly used and included what looks like pubic hair. Definitely not new. I’ll give it one more try and if they keep sending me used pubic hair covered products, I won’t continue my effort.
