Avoid renting with them at all costs

Avoid renting with them at all costs, Absolutely dishonest and lied and scammed me. They told me it would not cost extra to changey drop off location and then charged me an extra €59 and told me they couldn't do anything about it even though their employee have me the wrong information. Then a few weeks later they sent me an invoice for €29 and the invoice did not say what the charge was for. I emailed them several times asking them to clarify what it was for and they did not respond and a few weeks later just sent me an email saying they've automatically charged my credit card for it and still would not clarify what it was for.

I rented a car from STARCAR during the summer. The car was comfortable and the interior clean — the rental itself was fine. What followed, however, was unacceptable and looks like an attempt to extract money from customers.

Three months after I returned the vehicle (I returned it at night), STARCAR sent a damage claim and an invoice for €2,000. They initially only had the handover report (the start-of-rental sheet). After I disputed the claim, they produced a “return report” created months after the fact and a repair invoice — but provided no timestamped photos, no contemporaneous return protocol, and no evidence that the damage occurred during my rental.

This timing and the lack of proper documentation strongly suggest the claim was raised to pressure renters into paying. I rejected the charge and requested proof; I will be reporting the practice to German consumer protection if they do not withdraw the claim. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend STARCAR to anyone — their post-rental procedures and late claims are unethical and put customers at risk.

This was my worst experience in this…

This was my worst experience in this country. I reserved a car, went to the shop, the lady there said the care is no longer available and she only has one for double the price. I declined the service and went home just to find out that I have to pay a fine. Oh, by the way, they couldn’t let me know the car is not available before hand, they had me drive 40 km just to tell me the car is not available even though on Internet it was.

WARNING!! NEVER BOOK THIS COMPANY!!! I used the one in Pankow

On previous occasions they give me the wrong car, had the wrong details saved under different name then what I had booked. This time I had an account with them where I rented a car before and showed proof of address now they made me show again ID with address on which if your not German DOESN’T EXIST in my country. I showed a copy of my ameldung on my email (which I have done twice before) he said he won’t except that as last time I booked through check24 and not them directly (this makes no sense as it was still star car I showed the ID too) he proceeded to send me home for the original document, made me late for a wedding and the guy was very pleased to see me upset and make me cry. When I returned he then said I also needed a passport even though I had an ID card. RACIST RUDE CORRUPT! In the end they gave me no car, avoid this place at all costs!!!!!

Bad experience, awful customer service

We booked a car for the 14th of June at: Frankfurter Ring 185, 80807 München, GErmany. The car was an Audi A3. This was a reservation for 1 day.
Approximately 10 minutes after driving off, several warning lights appeared on the dashboard. We immediately returned to your office at Frankfurter Ring 185 and informed the staff. However, we were told the issue was nothing to worry about and were advised to continue driving.

Unfortunately, the situation did not improve—in fact, it worsened. After a couple of hours on the road, we received additional warnings, and the initial alerts became more frequent and concerning, see pictures attached (gearbox malfunction, electrical system fault, safely stop the vehicle, electrical system fault - battery is not being charged and others that are not in the pictures). This made us extremely uncomfortable continuing with our planned trip. Due to our growing concern about the vehicle's condition and the risk of getting stranded, we made the decision to cut our trip short and return the car much earlier than expected. As a result, we were unable to reach our intended destination, and this had a significant negative impact on our travel plans and overall experience. We hired a car for a purpose and this purpose could not be accomplished due to the vehicle's condition.
We contacted STARCAR many times and after 3 months we have gotten no response from customer service. The only thing they say is that they will look into it but time goes by and nobody ever reached us or contacted us.

Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience at Starcar Nuremberg

On July 29th, I visited Starcar’s Nuremberg office to rent a car and was met with unprofessional service and an unjust refusal. The staff barely acknowledged me, and after a cursory check, they refused to rent me a car, citing that I lacked a German address—despite my providing hotel details and offering a €10,000 deposit to secure the rental. As a customer from Denmark with a Philippines address, I felt unfairly treated and scrutinized without clear reasoning.
Despite spending hours on the phone with customer service and a supervisor, who promised a follow-up call that never came, the issue wasn’t resolved. This led to significant inconvenience: my family waited three hours at the airport, I incurred €1,400 in alternative transportation costs, and we experienced unnecessary stress. Starcar’s lack of clear communication about rental requirements and dismissive attitude toward international customers is unacceptable.
I urge Starcar to clarify their policies and train staff to treat all customers respectfully. I cannot recommend this company based on this experience.

STARCAR NK is trustworthy and uncomplicated

I checked Trustpilot only after renting a car at STARCAR Neukölln and got a bit stressed out when seeing all the mixed reviews. My friend calmed me down and said that she had rented a car there several times and never has had any problems. And what can I say - it was the same for me. Service was friendly, I received everything exactly as I ordered, we looked at the car together and took photos of any preexisting damages and afterwards I got the deposit back even before the original payment was taken from my account. One small damage was overlooked by the staff, but when I showed it to them, they immediately took a photo and included it in the handover protocol. There is really nothing I could complain about.

STAY AWAY!ITS A BIG SCAM!!!!

STAY AWAY!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! SCAM ARTISTS!!
Blamed us for damaging a car we hired.
We took photos and videos of the car before driving it on collection, also when we dropped it off so we had proof we hadn't done any damage to the car at all.
We got back to the office at hamburg airport to drop it off and almost immediately received an email in german (luckily we had german family who could translate it all for us) blaming us for the damage! They tried holding onto our 800 euro deposit and wanted more money to fix the damage.
Our german family sent them all the proof and emails and sorted it for us eventually.
I think if we didnt have them sorting it for us we would have lost all our money plus more!
Once you fill out the damage form they have you and your money!
I wish i had read reviews before booking with them online.
Read other reviews, all stating the same thing!! Disgusting to do this to hard working people.

SCAMMERS

Please read this and if you are thinking of hiring car please follow these rules.

On dropping car back same procedure but I can’t express how important it is to do a full detailed video of vehicle.

If I hadn’t done this I would have been scammed for the full deposit also I came back from Germany and they sent emails back in German lucky for me I had a friend who was able to reply back and help me resolve these scammers.

Do not even bother to go there

This meant 2 hours lost.
Then they advised they could not hand over a car as I did not have a hotel receipt. [ I stayed with my parents!!]
My father's ID was not accepted as it was an external booking .
Very unhelpful and unsympathetic staff.

Extremely Disappointing Experience

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Star Car Rental, Cologne Airport

I had an unacceptable experience with Star Car Rental at Cologne Airport. Despite holding a confirmed reservation, I was denied a vehicle because I arrived approximately one hour later than planned. As a result, I incurred a financial loss of £400 for the original booking and was forced to secure another car at short notice, costing me £1,200.

What made the situation worse was the attitude of the staff at the desk. They were cold, unhelpful, and showed no understanding or willingness to assist. Their rigid approach left me with no alternative options and added to an already stressful situation. EasyCar, the broker through whom I booked, was also unhelpful in resolving the matter.

This experience left me significantly out of pocket and extremely dissatisfied. I cannot recommend Star Car Rental and would caution others to avoid this company due to its inflexible policies, lack of compassion, and poor customer service.

Discrimination based on nationality.

The manager (lady) was so rude and refused to rent the car becuase I had a polish ID and irish driving license as Im an Irish resident for over 20 years. She started to shout at me at the front of other people. Hopefully company will take an action against her!!!
Stay away of this rental place!!!

I would not recommend this service to…

I would not recommend this service to anyone. First of all, the car was extremely dirty. Secondly, be very careful when returning the vehicle — they do not inspect it with a staff member present and simply tell you everything is fine. Later, they report damages you did not cause in order to withhold your deposit and even charge you extra.
Stand your ground and don’t let them take advantage of you. Unfortunately, nowadays you can’t trust anyone ,always document everything and protect your rights!

Excellent car rental

Excellent car, clean, new and low fuel consumption. Reasonable rental price. I rented at the Freiburg office, which is a 10 minute drive from the city center. Pick up could be a little faster. All in all, an excellent rental.

Star Car StieglSTARCAR Rent a Car in Berlin Steglitz. EXCELLENT 👏

I tried a few Car rental companies in Germany, and a couple of them in Berlin. Renting from the Star Car rental located in Berlin Stieglitz was by far my best experience from A-Z. The car: a 4×4/4×2 Nissan Qashqai absolutely immaculate and beautiful smooth drive. Full functionality intact, professionally cleaned inside and out. Staff: extremely helpful and friendly. Although I am North American I find 4x4 too bulky. I wasnt aware how to navigate the different functions before I drove off so one of the member of the staff kept coming back to ask if I needed more help. And more than once. Drop off instructions were clear and straight forward. I was concerned i wont find parking on the street where I was told to park the care. I was wrong - the office had reserved parking space for returned cars. I cant say enough of my overall experience at Star Car in Berlin Stieglitz. It was further away from home than i had anticipated, but it was worth the distance. I will always go there whenever I need to rent a car. Congratulations to the entire team.

I wish there was a way to put 0 stars here. I have been scammed from this company.
After I returned my car, I received first a report (19 DAYS later) of 2 alleged damages (that I didn't cause) to which I replied that they were unknown to me und not caused by me.

Then, I got a receipt 4 MONTHS LATER for alleged damages (this time, THREE (3) scratches in the car rim) for more than 2000 Euros.
In the car rental contract, there is no due date to issue car damage report after you return it, which opens the possibility for you to be charged for damages you did not cause (or for the car to be rented several times in that time span). This is how you get scammed.

In my case, they are charging me for the complete replacement of 2 rims on two wheels (>2000 Euros) for alleged scratches I did not cause. Even if I did, to charge me for the complete replacement of the rims for such damages is bad faith and unprofessional.

It's a complete scam and I would absolutely never recommend this company to everyone.

Extra deposit of 650 EUR & NO return protocol

I booked a car at booking.com. I paid more money and chose a special option so that I didn't have to pay a deposit. Then I came to pick up the car at STARCAR and they said I have to pay 650 Euro deposit. After giving back the car to starcar I asked when they will give me back my deposit, they said: They don´t know. And they said there is no return protocol.

These are scam artists. They told me that there isnt any car even after getting all the money from expedia but refused to return money. I guess honesty is never an option for all these people.
