Great app for traveling
This used to be a great app for traveling, I tried it a couple of years ago and I was amazed how much easier following group expenced got. It is the only app I would pay for if I needed more than just expence tracking couple of times per month.
Used to be good. Now no good at all.
This was a good app till they added in a 10-second delay between logging expenses and a maximum number of transactions per day. I understand needing to charge for Pro, but pushing people towards it with these two features that have now rendered the app unusable seems like a stupid gamble. There were already extra features in Pro that could make people who use it often subscribe.
We moved over to Beem and have been happy with the services, as well as being able to settle up within the app itself as opposed to making the bank transfer and then settle up in Splitwise.
Cherry on top - Splitwise sent me an email asking for feedback. When I politely gave it, as I truly was sad that Splitwise no longer suits my needs, I received a snarky response. Now on top of knowing that Splitwise developers made a mistake in pushing people towards Pro so intensely, something that could easily be rectified, I have also learned that the developers are fools.
What a pile of tripe
What a pile of tripe. An App that must have been created by some accountant that enjoys going on holiday with his accountant mates that get a kick out of messing around with spreadsheets.
A complete waste of time. Don't bother.

Daily expense limit sucks as this was a great stable app for all these years
Splitwise will STEAL your money
Someone tried to pay me using Splitwise, sending the money owed through them. Splitwise initially said the funds weren't available for several days, while the payee showed an immediate transaction. After that, Splitwise needed to provide my bank acct info, which I did, then Splitwise said another party, "Plaid" would process the transaction. I had to wait for a test deposit of $0.01 to show up. Three calendar days later it did. I received notice that my bank account info was verified, but Splitwise reports no money. One day later the balance of the funds hasn't appeared. Splitwise says to "follow up with an updated app on your phone." The phone app shows no money, no nothing, but does say something to the effect of "if you want your money you need the Pro version and give us $5 a month."
This is THEFT.
Only able to add 3 expenses per day…
Only able to add 3 expenses per day makes the app worthless
Recent update makes me change app
Been a user for years. Since rescent update w MONTHLY payment demand I'll either calculate expenses by myself or try another free app. The lack of communication regarding the update I also really bad pr, and quite frankly an insult.
Ba-bye!
Recent changes make it unusable
Been a user of splitwise for years. Recent changes and extortionate price for pro makes the app unusable. I think a one time payment would be acceptable but £3.99 a month just isn’t right. Clearly a lot of other people feel the same. No communication about the change at all. Greed will be this companies downfall and someone else will fill its space soon enough. It was great for holidays in big groups but would now require everyone to use the paid version to make it usable which is just not going to happen.
Ruined by high paywall
We have been using Splitwise for years, on trips with friends, and daily in marriage life. Simple app never offered anything extra really, but did what it was supposed to do very well.
No they require 8$ per user per month to use (limit of 4 expenses daily makes the free version useless). I would be willing to pay something, and I do not mind paying with my data, but as a couple paying more than we pay for 2-3 streaming services is not acceptable. Not mentioning friend group where people only used it few times a month. Looking for an alternative now.
Zero communication about new daily limit
I've been using Splitwise for more than 7 years and brought at least other 50 people to their service, for both trips and with my partner to track our expenses, it's one of the few apps that it's always been on my phone. In order to optimize time I add expenses once per month, but today something changes. There is a new limit of 4 expenses per day that I can add, so I'd need to add them over multiple days.
I wouldn't mind paying for the Pro plan since I've been using it for a long time and I don't want it to go away. But I probably won't since there was no communication about this change and it was a complete surprise.
That's a very bad experience from a long time user perspective.
I'd recommend them to send an email to all users with this new change, potentially even with a discount for the Pro plan for the first year, and maybe on the free plan set a monthly limit instead of a daily one, just to make the experience less bad for those people adding all expenses in a single go. At the end 3/day = 90/month, so why not setting a monthly limit instead. Also show how many are left somewhere, as it's a bad surprise.
greed sucks. They should at least contact users for change of policy
I had been using splitwise for half a year now. I was even looking into paying for it because it was handy and I would have more statistics. As I was using it today it sudennly blocked me by saying that Ive reached my daily limit. I had no notification from them saying that there is this policy change. This sucks. I am looking for another sevice that I'll be probably glad to pay for.
Insanely priced
Previously great, but now unusable with very low daily usage limit.
As with seemingly every piece of software you can no longer use this app without an ongoing, perpetual, forever and ever, monthly subscription fee. You can't just pay for this app as a one-off and feel free to use it, they want you to pay for it over and over again.
The price they are charging is just a roughly half of a Netflix subscription fee. This is not a reasonable charge for an app that stores and sends tiny amounts of data.
You should be buy this app at a reasonable one-time cost, and not be forced into a ridiculously high on-going subscription fee.
great way to sink your business splitwise
The one star reflects how much this company value their customers.
I've used this app/website for 5 years. I use it 3 or 4 times a week. I would have rated it 5 stars until today.
Today I tried to add more than 3 expenses and found that I can't unless I subscribe for the paid version.
This is a new limit they have implemented with no warning or communication to their customers.
I don't think you understand your customers...couples who are tracking their expenses aren't the target market to be spending £80 a year on your app.
Great way to sink your business splitwise.
How to ruin a great product with greed
I've used Splitwise for years, but all of a sudden I am only permitted to enter 3 expenses a day. Even these are punctuated by nag screens about the 'Pro' version that you have to sit and look interminably before you are permitted to dismiss them.
Guess what, Splitwise, your long-term users hate what you've done. Like me, I suspect most of them will be off just as soon as they can check out an alternative.
Was a Great app. But… Daily Expense Limit ruined it
Great app however newly introduced daily expense limit. Only 3 expenses per day. Makes the app not really useful and has ruined the product in my opinion
Pro Pricing structure also doesn't really make sense and is quite expensive for what I want.
I don't need/want any of the premium features. i only want to be able to add unlimited expenses. Which should be a separate option to purchase.
Limit on adding expenses for lite…
Limit on adding expenses for lite version. Crap app that isn't worth the money

They introduced a limit on the daily expenses for free users.
Awful limitation for lite user
With recent update, Lite version users will be more restricted and company expected user to pay for the Pro version. Limitation are No permission to add photos. and Maximum 3 new expense per day. NOT recommend.
Attract users with free app usage then limit to 3 expenses per day which renders the app useless
Splitwise has attracted many users with the free app features. Now from one day to the next the app limits free users to three expenses per day - this renders the app useless for occasional users. Very frustrating. Pricing for new forced customers should be lower with discount or at least leave higher number of free expenses per day/week. That's how you bring an app from successful to scrapping it.
Pure Greed
As with some of the other more recent reviews, since they've changed to the new daily limit, this has become completely useless. And too expensive to pay for. Another greedy cash grab! What a shame. Back to Excel for me!
