We booked 2 cottages and they were both dirty. Certainly not a 4 star hotel. 2 star if your lucky. Staff are not that friendly or helpful. Book another hotel. I told them we would never be back. They replied offering 20% off our next stay. They have never replied to my emails since. Spend your hard earned money else where.its a shame I cant attach pictures
Recently got married using Smiths hotel package, from our first enquiry to checkout everything was perfect, the staff were helpful and friendly and couldn’t do more for us.
The rooms were perfect for us and our guests and the food was fantastic.
Me & my husband visited Smiths for a second time after getting married here in May 2023. We thought it would be a lovely occasion to come back & celebrate our first wedding anniversary. When we visited back in 2023, we upgraded our wedding package to stay in one of the Bensmoor cottages as we had dogs with us & we had booked the same cottages again for our second visit. I did request the same cottage (number 4) which was accommodated & I was very pleased. In terms of the room, it was lovely apart from there was a inconsistent tapping noise that would happen randomly througout the day & night. We couldn't figure out what it was but we believe it was something to do with the radiator in the bathroom which we couldn't figure out how to switch off, it wasn't a massive issue, but was rather annoying! I think this is a lovely hotel & had a pleasurable experiance, on both occasions. Mine & my husbands main issue, which we both agreed was the breakfast. For a 4* establishment, we strongly believe it should be an order service & not a buffet style service. The first time I visited back in 2023, I didn't experiance the breakfast as I was a bag of nerves so didn't eat however second time round, I was disappointed with the breakfast. You could totally tell the food was sat out under the heat lamps for a long period of time, it was only luke warm & didn't taste the best. I actually made a comment to my husband & said how I preferred the Premier Inn breakfast! As I said, given that this is a 4* hotel I would expect better food service & better tasting food overall & at least hot, not luke warm. This was our only issue & in all honesty it would not put us off returning as everything else was a pleasurable stay for us.
We checked into the Smiths hotel on 5th May 2023 for 2 nights staying the cottage number 6. We were there for my daughters wedding that was taking place on the 6th May 23. Once we entered our cottage with my husband, son, daughter in law and my grandson everything seemed very good on first impressions. We gave everything the once over to check all was in order. There was a sofa bed for our grandson in the living room area, which after trying to pull out, noticed the mechanism was twisted, thus making it very difficult. As there was a landline situated in the lounge where we tried to call reception to report the sofa bed, the line was dead, it clearly wasn't working. I then called on my mobile to report the issue, housekeeping came quite quickly and advised that it would be better to leave the bed out, and made up for the duration on our stay. I explained this wasn't an ideal situation as we had various family members staying in the hotel that would be visiting the cottage and would need the space, so we put the bed away ourselves. The following day I called into reception after breakfast to raise the issue again and also to tell them the landline wasn't working. I was advised that a single bed could be brought round from the housekeeping team, I told them that this defeated the object so a foldable bed was supplied. All good you may think, but for the price we paid I did expect better. I have sent 3 separate emails to the hotel over the past 7 days, none have been replied to.
Upon leaving the cottage on Sunday, 7th May, my daughter in law stripped off the single beds in the 2nd bedroom, there were bad stains on both mattresses.
A separate email was also sent on behalf of my parents that stayed in room 1, as the accommodation description states that all rooms had either king size beds or 2 singles. Not sure why room 1 only had a double bed.
In my opinion the Smiths Hotel in Gretna Green in not worthy of the 4 star status. I could go on as there were various other things that could have been better!
We went for dinner . It was amazing not only for the food but the server Ryan. Irish guy. Very genuine and welcoming woukd definitely return if he were serving
We stayed for two nights and accompanied our friends for a wedding vow renewal over at the blacksmiths forge. The hotel experience was good - parking very easy, location to the wedding bit very easy, check in very easy, staff very accommodating and pleasant, food excellent, room OK - maybe a little dated. Our dinner was high point and the food was excellent - Chef Charles and his team do a fine job. Carole behind reception stood out as friendly and very helpful - always smiling! In the restaurant, Karen looked after us very well. Also Finn behind the bar gave us good service. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Bar was a bit expensive, but very good selection. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly go again 👍
Booked a 3 day wedding package for 10 guests and from the minute we walked in things wasn’t what had been promised. Firstly the rooms wasn’t what was arranged., secondly most was missing toiletries and finally the suite I had payed alot more for was dirty with sticky floors and old oranges (mould) and other things left in cupboard. The package includes dinner for first night and the evening of ceremony also breakfasts. After over 7 hours travelling we was all looking forward to a prearranged dinner but was soon to be disappointed as the butter chicken burgers came out tasting like curry and some peoples food order was incorrect. So we come to the day of the wedding @4pm and a member of staff was at blacksmiths to help as part of the package.. the lady was helping my partner with her dress at the back and got it caught as they was walking through which then caused a tear. We then finished up and all went to have our wedding meal which was booked for 5pm. After being told they thought it was for 8.30pm they then stuck us in a very warm room with a little fan, no table decorations or seating cards. The meal wasn’t enjoyable and my wife finished the night some what disappointed with the whole experience as it felt very unprofessional from day one to the end. Cannot believe after all these years they haven’t got this service how it should be especially for the money they charge.
My Daughter got married on the 4th of January 2022.
We had an amazing time. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much. They are a credit to the hotel.
We stayed in the Bensmore Cottages, beautiful and very clean.
The hotel has a lovely the Bar and Restaurant. The food was delicious. There was 10 of us eating and all the food came out together, again the staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend The Smiths Hotel.
On the surface a beautiful hotel. Unfortunately not for us.
We had booked our wedding package with them for 27 April 2019. We paid a small fortune to upgrade to the penthouse suite. A very beautiful room however cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Mirrors were very dusty, whirlpool bath and shower also had lot of mould , not exactly what you would want to see on your wedding night. one of our guests was knocked over by the revolving door and broke his hip. To this day is still in hospital after 7 weeks .
Wedding cake looked tasty. Unfortunately we were not able to confirm this as , despite assurances it would kept in fridge for us, when we went to collect in morning , it was gone !!!!
You can only imagine the distress of my new bride . She intended tobsend some home to relatives who could not make it including her father, but was deprived of this by the incompetent staff.
I know what you are thinking, surely you were compensated......
Nope. Not even so much as an apology . Not had any correspondence from any at hotel. They take your money and run . Would suggest if you want to marry at gretna green then try one of the many other more reasonably priced establishments
