I purchased the license for $70. However, when i purchased a new system exactly 13 months later and tried to install and activate SmartFTP, it wont activate saying the maintenance expired.

So, now i have to purchase the license and then buy maintenance again each and every year. they did not mention anything on the purchase page saying license valid for only 1 year or anything that you will need to buy maintenance if you buy a new system after 12 months.

Reply to SMARTFTP: When you are saying i installed a new version, then you need to give me a link to download the version which i purchased.

I bought the license in 2014, I don't have an issue with buying a newer version when there's sufficient/drastic updates/features to make me want it.

I was able to reinstall it just fine in early 2016 when I bought a new PC.
But all of a sudden in May-June, it stops working and says my Trial has expired.

I have the original EXE of the version I had downloaded, I tried to reinstall it but it tells me my KEY is not valid.

It advertises we do not need to keep renewing the Maintenance fee and can continue using the version we paid for. But not the case here. When I try reactivate my key again, it tells me it is NOT a valid key. Even when it's an exact copy & paste from my account information while logged into SmartFTP's client page.

When I contacted SmartFTP for help, all they could tell me was because my Maintenance Fee has expired, they can't provide me support. I'd have to renew it for them to help me. But if I renew it, this isn't an issue anymore because I can just use the new version instead of the old one. It misleads customers because ultimately, there is ZERO customer service/support.

Switched to an alternative, which is 100% free. I just had to make some setting adjustments to make it work similar to SmartFTP, but it works fine. Can't support such a business that has given me poor customer service.

UPDATE: SmartFTP's reply that I can still use it is dismissive. I've reinstalled it on a brand new PC, using the SAME .EXE install I downloaded and saved on the day it was purchased, as I archive & back up all software that is purchased.

I can provide screenshots proving that:
1. It tells me my TRIAL has expired.
2. Key won't activate, as it informs me it's not supported.

If someone worked with me first to prove it's in working order, then it's an accurate statement. Otherwise that's FALSE information, and I've been essentially abandoned by the SmartFTP team unless I pay more money. Wanting to upgrade versus the license stop working are two different things. And I won't give more money to SmartFTP on principal on the zero support I've been given.

Being forced to give them money is not the way to maintain customer satisfaction & trust.

I want my version 6 fixed, not upgrade to 8 or 9. And renewing my license automatically brings me to 8/9. I want to use the 6 license as I was promised when it was purchased.

In fact, if they had went above and beyond to resolve my issue rather than just tell me to renew my license, I would've continue to be a loyal customer, renew my license, and continued to recommend SmartFTP to other people.

Instead, I train people on how to use other FTP clients so they don't have to spend the money.

DON´T buy og pay for this program, when the maintenance period runs out, they make the licence not valid..

You say that I still can use the maintenance version?
Had wrongly updated after maintenance period, and after install it says this is a demo/trial version, and reinstalling old version, just updated from, it says invalid serial...
