Life saving

Overall, an amazing service that saved my life from many years of serious hay fever! I just wish that their website had more info about the doctor (Dr. Stephen Till) or the practice (inside the Shard!) so it doesn't look like a scam.

I suffer from a very serious allergy to birch pollen, and over the years, it has gotten so terrible to a point that I cannot work for a month or two during the hay fever season! I've been paying 120 quid per month for Itazulax tablets (concentrated pollen) as a treatment to be taken every day for more than a year now. It's expensive, but my hay fever has been more tolerable with a shorter reaction period, so it's working! I'm happy to keep taking it for another 1-2 years to complete the treatment even if it doesn't completely take away the hay fever. There are currently no cure to hay fever, but this treatment improves your symptoms.

During your first consultation session, the doctor will likely give you a treatment tablet (Itazulax in my case), to monitor your reaction. My allergy was so serious that, within minutes of taking the tablet, my throat was so itchy and closing up, which changed my voice, and it felt like a serious cold in 10 minutes. Dr. Till almost didn't want to give me the treatment because of my serious reaction. I had to take an antihistamine an hour before taking Itazulax for over half a year until I felt nothing from it.

First review of a great service

I wanted to review this website to make it easier for people to decide to use this service. I initially found zero information about smartallergysolutions online so want to contribute my experience.

I've been a hayfever sufferer since birth and have always wanted to find a long term solution, but generally didn't know it existed. I heard about immunotherapy a few years ago but didn't really know how available it was or how to start. In the NHS, it's notoriously difficult to get gravax prescribed and can take many months or more. When I did my research on the topic and decided that I wanted to try immunotherapy, I was discouraged by the high fees offered by many practices. I live in london and many had an initial consultation fee of £300+, a similar fee for follow up appointments and then the medication. It seemed a little ridiculous to pay £300+ to determine if I even needed treatment.

So I was surprised to find smartallergysolutions mentioned on a messageboard. It was substantially cheaper than all alternatives that I had seen. The website seemed incomplete, so I was a little suspicious that it was a scam, but I contacted the medical practice of one of the doctors (Stephen Till) and verified it was legitimate.

I paid the initial fee and got a confirmation email. I was contacted the next day by a secretary. They rang me and emailed me. They booked me in for an appointment for the next day at London Bridge hospital in the Shard, a lovely private hospital.

I was met by Professor Stephen Till and we had a consultation which lasted about 40 minutes. It included a Skin Reaction test and taking the initial dose of gravax under supervision. Of course, Professor Till talked with me thoroughly about the treatment and answered any questions. He was very friendly and happy to chat about my concerns, and even listen to my comments about the website.

The reaction from the skin reaction test faded quickly, as did the initial mild reaction from the gravax tablet. Professor Till tells me that it is normal to have a reaction at first, and that this should subside in the coming weeks. I have now paid for my first batch of gravax and expect it shortly.

My impression is that smartallergysolutions want to streamline the immunotherapy process, to prevent people using dodgy internet websites to try gravax without medical supervision. I applaud them for this, as an immuotherapy treatment for hayfever is something that I never hear discussed and wish I found earlier. I wish them every success.
