A trip full of memories

There is no better way to do a road trip in Italy than using SIXT. More than 1000 km in Porto Fino, Cinque Terra, S. Margherita Ligure, La Spezia and more driving with safety and comfort. Thank you Sixt.

Staffs and their services are impressive!

Everything! We rented a car at Napoli Chiaia. The staffs are super nice and professional. Even on that day we rented, there was a marathon in the city, they arranged us to get a car at another branch. They did apologize for inconvenience but it was not their fault at all. The car is very good condition. Their hospitalities are top notch! Returning was so smooth. Thank you for your nice service!

Rental went smoothly and quickly

We were early picking up the rental at the Rome Fiumicino airport, and our reserved vehicle size was not available yet. The agent suggested an upgrade to larger diesel (cheaper fuel) version for an additional cost. We declined and told him we would wait. After checking on timing of returns of our reserved size, Alexandru then upgraded us to a larger diesel vehicle (Cupra Fermentor) without charge to get us on our way quicker. We appreciated that. The pick up process went smoothly and quickly, and the personnel were helpful. Alexandru responded to a few questions during the rental quickly. The return went smoothly and quickly also. The lady doing the return checked the vehicle quickly and said there were no additional charges, and our deposit should be returned shortly. We purchased the all inclusive protection package which probably helped the smooth process. The cost was expensive but the online discounts for all inclusive package made it comparable to other direct supplier options.

I had a great experience overall.

I had a great experience overall. SIXT service was excellent and I definitely recommend it.
The only complain is that the car advertised was an Alpha Romeo JR. or “similar” and I got a Fiat 600 instead. Similar is an overstatement in this case.

They dont guarantee car of same quality! Careful. It is a scheme

Terrible experience. Not according to international standards. We booked a bmw x1 and they didnt guarantee a car of the same category. We had to pay more to have a the same comfort we were looking. When we got the car it was soo dirty it was unbelievable! There was not even water and soap to clean the wind shield. The worst service ever.

It was great however…

It was a great service at pick up and drop off. The only reason as to why I’ve given a 4/5 stars is that I strongly feel that rental companies should set up all their vehicles with front and rear camera to support clients who find themselves in a situation where damage was caused by another car and not by the driver.

I have been renting from SIXT Roma…

I have been renting from SIXT Roma almost every year since 2018. In all those years I have never had any issues so I am so surprised reading the reviews. My only tip is to understand what you are purchasing before you get to the counter and understand what is covered. You may even have credit card coverage. We did have our car breakdown once while in Italy and the service and getting a new car was very simple... I am not fluent in italian but they were extremely helpful.

Fraudulent practices

Extreme caution when renting with Sixt Brindisi necessary! I rented a car in August 2025 and returned damage-free. No issues were raised at drop-off. The agent said: "tutti bene, have a nice flight home!". Four days later, I received an email claiming damages. I immediately declined responsibility, as the car was returned exactly as received.

Since then, I’ve discovered that many others report the same experience: claims for unproven or pre-existing damages, dismissive staff, and charges that are small enough to not bother counteracting.
This doesn’t look like an isolated incident but rather a coordinated practice that borders on fraud. Strongly advise to decide against Sixt Brindisi!

Rented a car in Italy

Rented a car in Italy, worked fine and I returned the car. 2 months later I got a speed ticket from Switzerland(had not been there). Called Swiss authorities and said it’s mistake, they said ”sure we have a picture of you”. A day later I saw that the registration number of the cars did not match. SIXT had given my name and address to Swiss authorities (a mistake) I have informed SIXT info and data security for an explanation of how it could happen. None of them have replied. No more SIXT for me.

Scammers, Thieves

They will steal your deposit, that's all you need to know.

Got the report back that there were no issues with the car and a full deposit would be returned within 2 days.

One month later and nothing, and they just ignore your emails.

Sixt jeopardized our safety, then ghosted us

Sixt rented us a car with a damaged tire. We ended up with a flat on the side of a busy highway. They said it would be at least an hour before they could send anyone. It was an incredibly dangerous situation, so we put on the spare and found a place to get the tire fixed. The shop said it was in such bad condition they couldn't fix it. Sixt said they'd pay for the new tire, I just had to send the receipt. I've provided receipts, along with the records of all the times I tried to reach them by phone. They are now refusing to pay me or answer my emails. If you care about your family's safety, NEVER rent from Sixt.

Additional: as you can see by the reply below, both in timing and content, Sixt 'customer service' is a misnomer.

DO NOT BOOK WITH SIXT

We booked a car with pretty generous insurance cover online for our holiday in Puglia. The plane was delayed 2 hours leaving. I tried to “check in” the car the day before travelling and couldn’t because my husband has a paper license (still legal in the UK), and their system would not allow it. I spoke to 3 Sixt customer service people the day before we travelled and they told us not to worry that it would be sorted at Bari Airport.

ENTER THE SCAM TEAM at the airport!

The utter scammers at Bari airport would not accept the license nor would they transfer the car driver details to me. The choice I had was to cancel the booking and re-book at a vastly increased price, or have no car. One of the team even told me that there was no car available to us as we were a “no show” - ie didn’t show up at our predicted time!!! I explained that our flight was delayed and the slight delay was not under our control.

Because I complained bitterly the following day they agreed to give me a discount on the highly inflated new booking price, but it was still 50% higher than the original booking price!!

I have since written to customer services asking for a refund of the difference and they are supposedly taking our feedback very seriously but cannot refund the difference! Utter rubbish- they could if they wanted but have decided that the greedy “might lose a customer” way is the right one.

This company does not deserve to be in business- DO NOT TRUST THEM! Book with another hire company.

Hidden charges, lack of transparency, out to get you

I prepaid €635 for a hire car, thinking everything was settled. When I arrived at the desk, the agent asked if I wanted a toll pass. I agreed, assuming it would simply cover tolls automatically and I’d be billed for the tolls I actually used. Instead, I later discovered it was charged at a flat €25 per day – adding up to €175 for the week – something that was never explained at the counter.

On top of that, the insurance protection fee was increased, even though I had already selected and prepaid the premium package in advance. They also added a “premium location fee” at the airport, despite the fact that I had booked the car from that exact airport location when paying upfront.

To make matters worse, when I returned the car, staff pointed out a small scratch on the wing mirror that I hadn’t noticed at pickup. It was clearly pre-existing damage that had been missed on their last inspection. Luckily, I had full cover, but it highlighted how inconsistent and unreliable their damage recording process is.

This company operates with hidden charges, misleading practices, and poor transparency. I felt exploited from start to finish. I will never use Sixt again and strongly advise others to avoid them.

Do not use CORRUPT

We live in the uk and hired a car for a weeks holiday in Sicily . Before taking the hire car the attendant told us the car’s like new , no damage . Fortunately we had the sense to check over and there was wheel and bumper damage . We informed him to document and were clever enough to video and take pictures. When we returned the car we took evidence again as no damage during our hire . 2 months later my husband had £1,167.31 just taken from his account from sixt ( no emails / no warning) our bank claimed it back as fraudulent. Emails were sent to them to ask why and videos sent . All ignored . Latest is a threatening court letter . Our bank say they don’t have a leg to stand on as we have a paper trail and video evidence / photos . This is now harassment . Unbelievable situation we found ourselves in and totally corrupt hence the low overall reviews from customers . DO NOT USE !!!!!
