Human garbage

Simps, drug addicts, and sex crazed, self important people. Don't bother, it's a place for middle aged losers that haven't grown up.

Better than Facebook

Overall, Similar works has been a good experience. During the pandemic and through a difficult time a lot of the users stuck by each other and gave support, reassurance, and much needed advice. I am a fairly new member (in perspective) yet I feel like I've earned my place. I'm grateful for the site, the people and camaraderie.

I love this site just needs a few more things

I love 2 things I haven't found on other sites. 1. They allow you to block all under 18s 2. They have flags for nudity, adult, etc. content. These are GREAT features.
There are 2 things they should add. 1. GAG has all my input at the top when I pull up a post. That is much better searching for it. 2. GAG also sorts comments by gender and I prefer that.

I wanted to like the site.

I wanted to like the site but, after my first post on there which got attention, that was it. No more interaction with the people on that site, which threw me for a loop.

Since then, every post after my first one has been blocked. Along with my responses on other people's posts. Like no one can see me. I reached out to the admins a while ago and they never got back to me. And it's been a little over a month now.

I love the site

I love the site. There's always someone to talk to about anything. I'd have definitely been lost and lonely after EP was shut down cause I don't have friends in real life.

SW is what you make of it

I am giving it four stars but I will be listing both the good and the bad.

Things I like:

1-The changes aiming to get rid of unnecessary groups which were imported from a previous website namely experience project. I can’t wait for the final consolidation.
2- The ability to post freely about any topic as long as you're respectful and within the TOS.

3- Supportive members that are always willing to give feedback about everyday issues, many of them will respond if you genuinely reach out for help.

4- The diversity, there are rightists, leftists, centrists, muslims, Christians, atheists, hindus..The diversity is very important and keeps it interesting.

5- Any support tickets you submit will get a response eventually.

6- The admins and moderators are very polite and tolerant. They respond to most criticism constructively. I have personally disagreed with the admins many times and they did their part explaining to me why the issues occurred. They do work to make the platform better regularly.

7- The design makes it different than other social media outlets because you can add pictures, videos, use unlimited characters. Everyone gets equal opportunity at replies since all the content is in the main tab.

Things I dislike:

1- Not enough moderators.

2- Too much harassment and fake profiles. This however isn’t restricted to SW, it is the internet in general.
3- I don’t think those who post any sort of content encouraging or fetishizing child abuse should be given second chances. However I understand that the admins are trying to avoid excessive censorship and also do work with law enforcement in cases that are strong enough for legal action.
---------------------
I have gone through some of the reviews before writing my own and I have few things to say about them.
The site is partly community moderated. That means people will flag content and it will be reviewed by the admins, and if illegal, the admins later on inform the authorities.
In the case of the post made against child abuse, every link there has been reviewed. People don’t mass flag without reading the stories first and checking the profiles.

SW is very small community. I recognize the person who wrote a negative review concerning this topic. They were flagged for writing child spanking stories, hundreds of them. They have no reasonable excuse to be upset for the warning.

They agreed to the TOS upon joining the website. Even though they have been warned and are clearly in the wrong they continue to play the victim. They are still allowed to use the website. Which if anything shows that the admins are very tolerant and they should be appreciative of that.

I like that it is easy to navigate

I like that it is easy to navigate. The people change from time to time so you cant judge it according to who is there talking about whatever. The admins are pretty consistent with follow up of issues.

Don't waste your time

Admins are very unprofessional and very baised. They have their picks who they want flagged and banned and don't remove the ones with hate speech as needed.

The culture of the site has the mentality of a high school girl. Everyone is a very clique-y and mean spirited if it isn't about sex or kissing up to others they don't want to hear it. The popular users are favorites by the owner and get away with a lot of things that will get others banned, also they possess multiple accounts to harass others.

The admins will also threaten to ban you if they don't like you. I feel so much better after leaving.

Wild paedo-chasing on similarworlds turns ugly

Similarworlds has this written in its terms of service: "You will not mention other users by their username, profile picture and other contents that identify the user, in a way that harasses or insults them". They have this rule for an important reason, and it's so that people won't be targeted for bullying or misintepretation.

However, some time ago a post was made titled "Lets take a stand against SW pedophiles!" which sounds worrying, and the premise of the post is that you can name anyone if you're the slightest suspicious that they could be a peadophile, and then everyone on the post immedietly goes to the profile to mass-report them to have the system automatically suspend them.

Obviously this has lead to many false allegations on people either becuase people are trolling or simply aren't very good at using their "peddo-spotting eyes".

The problem here is that despite every rational thought that goes against blindly naming people and pub training them out of the site, and consideration for how it could lead to serious psychological stress of the ones being called out, and to go with that it breaks against SW's terms of service, the admins have chosen to actively endorse and partake in this mental post.

One of the admins, Andrew has this to say: "I've only very recently been made aware of this thread.
Thanks for the good work and support!
...
Regardless, any user suspected of being a potential predator, immediately loses all possibility to contact minors on SW." and the admin makes regular public updates on who they're "investigating". I've been named a few times myself by people who simply dont like me, but the admins are too busy chasing fictitious bad guys to prevent this. Their comments are still up, several months later, calling me a peado on an admin supported thread.

Post title: "Lets help keep SW safe for kids!"

Edit: Previously titled "Lets-take-a-stand-against-SW-pedophiles" but they changed it, most likely because they saw this review and realised that they've showed too much of their true colors. I'll keep you updated.

A fine international social media site

Similar Worlds, aka SW is a small but fun international social media site. I like it because it has a pretty strong international flavor instead of being dominated by Westerners like Reddit or Facebook. I have met and interacted with people from India, South Africa, The Philipines, Saudi Arabia, Iran, South Korea and other locations just to name a few.

The site strives to be fair but the anonymity of the users sometimes causes people to be vindictive and aggressive towards others as it is the internet.

The admins of SW do a great job of addressing such things when they get out of hand and regularly bans or sanctions users who act poorly.

There is a weird undercurrent of emotional affairs and sexting among the members as the site both allows you to be anonymous but also encourages you to share your thoughts and feelings with others. This can be a bad experience for new users, take heed and don't dive into anything you aren't comfortable with.

Finally, the site is pretty good with allowing a disparity of political opinions on the site. This makes for some pretty interesting political debates on the site, and you will quickly find other like minded individuals to bond with there.

I appreciate their openness and fairness there.

Many social media sites discriminate against right wing thoughts and ideas, SW is open minded provided you don't attack other people with your political opinons.
